We will be going over whip shading, pepper shading, stippling and the motions required to make smooth shades in real skin and fake skin. The fact he shows you with fake skin then his own actual skin, really helps understanding. Really appreciate all these videos, they've been so helpful
Thats great to hear that tattooing both fake and real skin in the videos is what helps the most. I thank you for the awesome support Ramirez and Keep Rocking my friend!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
The 3rl is my go to. And I’ve been learning a lot from your videos keep up the great content brotha
Yeah I have grown to really love the 3rl as I find myself using them more and more. Just another tool in the box. And im glad to hear the channel as really helped you out brother!! Keep Rocking🤘🤘
@@ArtSomething can u achieve a similar effect with a 5rl?
i really appreciate your content, iv learned so much watching your videos. Tattooing is my new obsession at age 36, I tried to get an apprenticeship from my local tat shop but the guy was like I'm to old lol. Since its the only real shop in my area i have to go the self taught route. Watching your videos gave me the beginner knowledge and confidence to give me first tattoo the other day. So i wanted to say thank you
I was staying away from small needle groups at the beginning. To easy for making skin damage. Not easy to see on fake skin. Your early videos show how you can avoid this. By the way nice video again 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘👌
Been watching your channel non-stop practicing on fake skin, I'm about to do my first tat on my thigh tomorrow! Wish me luck! P.S. Never stop doing these videos, they help so much. Thanks Dave and Art-Something crew!
How’d it go?
When I was a shop apprentice, this is something I was never taught... How to use smaller grouped needles. I was taught with a 7rl and nothing lower than that. Now that I'm getting back into tattooing 11 years later, I'm commiting myself to learn off of the 3rl as I believe perfecting skill under this needle group will help overall with larger groups.
I was actually just wondering about shading with liners. This totally helps and answers all of my questions. Thanks again for the content!
Most honest tattoo artist just thank you 🙏
Best explain ever thank you for these videos and your time God bless you brother
Yes I get that, I feel my way when shading. So different from lining, good advise to practice on some fake skin, even tho it doesn’t feel the same, you get the feel of the motion the technique. Solid instruction as always.
For me its my favourite channel for learning.
I just started and just two days ago, I tried my first shading on fake skin.
My first results were not satisfying at all, but this video brings back some faith.
I'm glad to see you're investing in your youtube channel. Nice to see a more professional intro and footage. Keep the good work bro, you deserve it. ;)
Thank you Jose. Its hard sometimes cause I always want to get new tattoo equipment but find myself getting more video equipment instead lol. Soon I will start investing more back into my equipment and set up. But no rush live we learn we keep Rocking!!! 🤘🤘 Thanks again Jose appreciate the support brother!! 🤘
I to learned on my own legs lol. Thanks for sharing, I found this to be very insightful
Really grateful to the way you teach us. Haven't found anything as good as you on RUclips.
The details and your patience is really appreciated!
This kind of content is what i want to watch since i start tattooing
Same here lol. I Just try to make vids that I either had questions about when I was learning (still am learning) or about things I think others may be struggling with. SO with that said thank you Christian!! 🤘🤘
Thanks for ideas. I apply some of your techniques when I'm tattooing. It helps me to improve more.
More power to your channel and more ideas for us. 💪💪💪
Love you're videos you explain everything very clearly its helped me a lot thanks dave 👍
Best videos for sure! Great channel brother! And thank you for your service!
Thats awesome to hear so thank you Kyle, really appreciate that brother!!🤘🤘

I'm so glad there is a real tattooist out there that tries to help the first timers when it's really hard to get apprentice ship well atleast around where I live and if you do you don't get paid for anything and you gotta do all the bitch work until they decide to show you and that's if they want to show you I gave up and just started teaching my self that is my all time dream is to become a tattooist and for the vids ty keep up the good work
I've been tattooing for about 15years now and I think this dude is fantastic but I have a request.... how about a biomechanical episode? Keep it up my friend
Semper Fi! I’ve watched a few of your videos , very helpful. Watched your video on how you got into it all. I Got outta the Marines years....and years ago ha,ha. Always was fascinated by tattooing but cuz of family, work etc.very tough to do so, hard to put everything on hold for a classic apprenticeship. Asked questions and got a lot of attitude etc. etc. I’d inked up my legs plenty then put it all away and have recently come back to it. Anyway your videos and that story were inspirational, thank you. Gonna continue and take my time with it.
Thanks for the video. I've been practicing a lot with a three round liner on fake skin. I think today is the day I try to tattoo myself.
No problem Paul! I hope it helps you out. Also best of luck to you as you tattoo yourself. Take your time and be safe. You got this!! 🤘🤘
Stimpling I love it bro
This video came at a perfect time man!
Thank you so much, really appreciate these videos
Saaame lol I’ve been filling up my arm with line work and for shading on my hand. It’s just feeling...a little flat I guess lol
@@jadetackett6085 damn haha I've been working on my leg so far, how do you manage to get a good stretch on your arm?
@@nobruh4841 medical tape and patience

Thats AWESOME to hear Tyler!! Keep working hard and Keep ROcking my friend!! 🤘🤘
Dude thanks, this really helped me out tremendously on this tattoo I'm doing on my arm that has flames in it around the Alabama script A. Awesome video! 👍
Dude you are amazing!! And I love your videos! They're very helpful and explanatory.
Hey! I just listened to your podcast post "you cant tattoo" man! That is exactly how I feel about working! Love how well you put that!
I just wanted to say that I love your videos and I've learned a lot from them. I don't expect to became a pro at tattoing but it sure is soothing and helps keep the mind off of things. I just wanted to ask if you could do a video (unless you have one already), where you go over the inks that you use and what you recommend. I know the are some healthy options out there and others no so healthy....
Thanks!
Man I love your videos. You have helped me so much learning to tattoo. I'm getting not as shitty pretty quickly. Lol. Really thanks man.
Rewatching all of your videos dave and got to thinking have you ever thought about a tattoo along series? We could all do the same design along with you, linework one session, shading and packing in other videos.
Thank you so much for these videos. I was just curious to what websites you order your ink from or if you have a preferred brand. I’m just looking for black ink, If you have any recommendations.
THANK YOU!!! I'm creating some designs for my mentor and I was worried I was being too ambitious by thinking I could use a 3rl for all the shading I would do in the black and grey pieces I'm making
Nice dude thanks for the tip bro!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Love your stuff. Thanks for all the tips and tricks
NO problem Justin its my pressure, im just glad your enjoying it and learning from it. Keep it up and Keep Rocking!! 🤘🤘
I like to shade tight areas with a 9RL works perfect
I like to watch you! You teach great!
3 needle liner is one I use most also. What's your thoughts about using diamond or square tips, as some calls them ? Me personally, I think their a little awkward for me to use @ times.
I agree with you. I have several boxes of diamond tip 3rls but unfortunantly I dont really like using them as much either cause yeah they just dont act the same way for me. I really prefer 3 tight round liners. Thanks Keith I appreciate you watching and supporting the channel my friend!! 🤘🤘
Dude yur my inspiration.. thanks to yu I’m able to be my self and get back to what I wanted to do .. I stopped because I had no guidance but now that I found yu I’m back pursuing my passion. I know I sound super lame but real shit dude yu doing this helps people better their life . I would love to get tatted by yu one day just to have that memory and inspiration so let me know where I can set up an appointment
Wow thank you SO much Frank I really do appreciate the kind words my friend! And im VERY happy to hear these videos are changing/ improving lives.🤘🤘 Cause thats what its all about, building each other up not tearing each other down. God Bess brother and Keep Rocking! 🤘🤘
Thank you mate, awesome video as usual.
Thanks man I'm starting
I just want to know do you use a shading machine for this ? Or since you’re using a liner as a shader then do you still use a lining machine ??
this is so helpful you have no idea
That’s awesome to hear I’m glad these videos are making a difference in helping people out!!🤘🤘🤘
Very nice...Thank you so much for the lessons...I will surely practice this technique...
Thank you and you are more than welcome my friend I’m glad you enjoyed the video and I wish you the best of luck as you begin practicing this technique. Take your time learn as much as you can and keep rockin!!🤘🤘
💚💜💙💛💞 THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER AWESOME TUTORIAL! You really are a fkn tattoo rockst☆r! Thanks again, Bellè -Australia xxx 💋😁xxx
Bro best teacher video learn
Have a little question... How is the healing process with this technique? Is it better, worst or simply the same? Great video thanks!
Love your videos! You’re the man for showing examples on your skin! Awesome teacher! Tattooing yourself can be frustrating but the pain is an excellent teacher for your clients! Do you ever run your volts passed 10 for any pieces? Or you strictly hand flow and 8.1 volts all the time?
Ty so much man for taking your time doing this ive learn so much more since your videos im using a coil gun can you make video using one of those would be awesome
So did you also line with the 3rL on this rose or just do the shadeing? And another question what is your go to liner? I haven't watched enough but I been binging! I'll get there Lol.
The fact that he cuts to the chase, I like that
Thanks for the video!
No problem Marcus im glad you enjoyed it my friend!! 🤘
I've been waiting for this patiently
Great tutorials hats off to you bro😎😎
I don’t think I’ve seen any videos of you using the x we plus do you have any and are you using the same voltage with that as you do with the q2
I'm wondering about shading with round shaders vs mags? New to tattooing just finally got my lining down now wanting to lean how to shade using a wormhole tattoo pen
I have a few videos on the channel that should help in terms of shading with a mag.
@@ArtSomething is there a between the two can when should I use either? And I love and the videos they have been extremely helpful
Nice video man thanks , did you add water to the ink or was that 100 percent black ? Cheers
needed this video thank you so much it was very helpful!
so I’ve been watching all your videos! Extremely helpful and thank you so much for your time. “And your leg”!! Lol your a brave soul!! I would like to ask you to Critique some of my work I’ve seen some of your videos that you critique beginners what is an email that I can send some of my pictures with some questions I have to make my work look better I would like your opinion
Great video once again...one problem I'm running into is when shading with a magnum...I can get the gradient I want, but I can't seem to get rid of the tiny line indentations left behind with a mag when I look very close up...is this normal?
I understand what your saying. This often comes down to the type of needles your using. Standard needles have a larger diameter and will show more of the needle marks in the skin. However I prefer to use a 10 gauge needle as they have a smaller diameter and show less of the needle marks in the skin. Needle choice definitely comes down to personal choice so try using some bugpin needles and see how that works for you. Thanks again for the support my friend and Keep ROcking!! 🤘🤘🤘
@@ArtSomething I'm either using .25 or .30 bugpin mags and still run into this problem, any other tips you can think of that might solve this? Thanks again bro!
Hey thanks for that ! Can I have the same result with a Round Shader ? Would it maybe hurt less the skin ?
Is possible for beginner using wireless pen,for the first machine?
Yes it is possible in fact its easier to use then other set ups.
I like your videos, thank u
Love this one too! For some reason I cannot get my mags to get the ink to stick
this is helpful
Glad to hear the video helped you out! 🤘
Great advice
THank you Michael!! Much appreciated my friend!! 🤘🤘
Thank you! What would you call the style of the first tattoo you showed
Do you shade one shading mode Or Lining mode ??when shading with a liner
Excuse me sir . What is your vaseline cream name . I never seen green cream before
Definitely appreciate the vid
What clip cord sleeves do you use? I also have the critical wireless power supply by my current sleeves don’t fit over it.
Super.
I’ve been practicing shading and I seem to be able to shade the fake skin more consistently than real skin, practicing on myself I notice the ink doesn’t really stick, and I end up tearing up my skin instead. I make sure to stretch the skin each time but I can’t get a smooth application. Any thoughts ? Really appreciate your videos man!
How do you make your ink so thin mine seems to be a little thick not too thick But it's Thick
How do tattoos made with a 3RL for outline and inner lines age and fade? If the lines are close together e.g. the stamen is there a significant risk the black ink will spread so the detail is lost
Are you using greywash or just pure black ink?
Hey there! 👋🏻 so I have a question in regarding to packing color with a liner..I tried filling in an old micro heart tattoo of mine red..and when it healed the color wasn’t really vibrant at all. (Hardly noticeable) Could it have been that I possibly didn’t go deep enough or??
I feel like you’ve answered this kind of question in ur videos but I just wanted to be sure. 😳
Sir, is the ink pure black or greywash mixed ink?
Now when you get to the rose! That's how I am more comfortable shading over a mag. Any clue why?
I noticed that when shading with larger mags, people tend to have very little needle hang and basically almost ride the tube for shading. For liners, it seems to be different.
Yes that due to it being harder to see a liner than a mag 👍
Hi what is some good fake skin to use? I seen the reviews on Amazon for their "best seller" and they are really bad. If their best seller isn't good, which ones are? Thank you in advance.
Bru thank you so much for your videos. As an apprentice, this helps so much having things explained in a different way! Your way of teaching is really efficient and easy to grasp!
Hey brother, can I use normal water to do my gray wash when I'm training in pig skin?
I suppose you could with pig skin or fake skin. However I have only ever used distilled water or mixing solution.
@@ArtSomething thank you!! can I ask you one more thing??
Having to keep going over it to set your tone...won't that chew up the skin?
On fake skin you have apply more layers or be more dominate when it comes to putting the shades in the skin. For real skin yes you have to be careful but needles isnt going deep and has a very fine point to it allowing you to make several passes without damaging the skin. This becomes more comfortable the more you practice with it.
Thanks for this video. Are your 3rl needles #12 standard or bug pins? Long taper? On some of your product links I see they are #10, but not sure if that was used in this video. xox Terry
3round long tapper just not sure bugpin or normal 12
whats the difference between Round liners and Round Liners Tight
The tips of the needles on the tight RL are closer together at the point (tip)
What kind of paper is under the fake skin?
What cartridge brand are you using dawg? Q2 all day eh
I use kwadron, cheyenne and then I usually mix in something new that I may be trying here and there. And yeah I use the Q2 more then any other machine. I like it due to it being a direct drive machine, also its small and easy to manipulate.
Art-Something what brand are you using specifically in this video though good sir? The Q2 is the go to for sure
Is this the wand?
Hello Dave, how can i send you some tryes i do, it s my 3 attempt and i would like some critics. I tried to use 123rl to do some draws on fake skin. Unfortunately i still cant tranfer correctly the stencil so i draw with a pencil some stuff i miss in the reference.
Any videos on beard care?
Thanks for all you do I learn alot from you..and Ben Fisher from ink rush you guys should check him out as well
What speeds are common to use for shading
