I still dont understand why portuguese people blame de airbnb’s and the foreigners for the shortage in housing. It is a government problem, compared to other european countries portugal has the lowest percentage of social housing( affordable rentable properties); The State owns thousands of buildinds( public buildings) that ae not occupied and most derelict. These shoud be re-habilitated and converted into housing. Lastly is the immigration without any control into Portugal from countries like India,Bradil, Pakistan, Bangladesh, in the last couple of years we had thousands flocking to Portugal due to the facility in obtaining the citizenship, it has put a lot of pressure in the housing market. I heard that until March the portuguese government plans to issue residence to over 600K immigrants, mostly from those countries i mentioned. Some parts of Lisbon like Martim Moniz are losing its charm and character, with these immigrants that come from different cultures, dont integrate, respect the portuguese culture and traditions.
We need this type of videos about Portugal. Not just the “ this is really cheap kind…”tks for the sensibility to go beyond that. It’s important to us. Amazing video. Great editing.
Dave, of course we want you here. You and all that come for good, but I also want my people to afford Lisbon. It's up to our government to protect us, they haven't...totally different issue. Being born and raised in Lisboa, this video really touched me. Despite the issues, the good and bad, Lisbon is so special, our people are so real and sensitive, and sometimes not so😅.There is nothing better than the feeling of love and pride it gives me being Lisboeta, and that "O Palácio" Restaurante I visited the 1st time back in December, 2023, awesome food! Tks for showcasing us, our people, food and country. We love you Dave!
I am Korean. When I visited Lisbon before, I was very impressed by the warm welcome feeling. The best food, heat, and everything lively moved my senses and is a touching place. Dreaming of Portugal, which always wriggles in my heart, Dave's video is a great help. 😊👁👍🩷
OK, this was, hands down, my favourite episode! I want to hang out with your friends! I love the '2 hours later...' and you are at a disco... It's been a long time, but looked like a lot of fun to me! You've got yourself some great buddies Dave!
What I love the most about Portuguese people is the open-mindedness. I have lived in Lisbon for 2 years and had to move away to another country for work in 2018. This year I am planning to move back for good, being aware that many things have changed in a short period of time... But I am absolutely obsessed with Portugal, and especially Lisbon; my heart just tells me that I need to move back.
This video actually made me cry... It reminded me of what I want in life but also what I'm missing. So much love, friendship and kindness is absolutely what makes life worth living. I'm half Portuguese and want to move to Portugal since already 2016 but it's very difficult without big money or someone that helps you to get your feet into the country. Mario is such an amazing person, he gives so much happiness, makes people smile and it's so cool that he's also a DJ like me (: I would really love to meet and spend a day with him. If there's anyone out there with helpful tips on how to settle in Portugal without spending hundreds of euros on housing during the first few months I would be very grateful for it and appreciate that with all my heart. Dave as always thank you for this amazing, emotional and heartwarming video ❤ and keep on doing what you love. PS: Of course I would like to meet you too (:
@@daveinportugal Thank you for your effort, since quite a while you've been great at showing the good stuff about Portugal... while the Portuguese live in paradise, but always complain, unaware of what they have... they never promote themselves, have you noticed? Thanks that You did notice that country anyway, and you share it as a gentleman 🙂
You're alive! lol My wife and I have been waiting for your next video. We land in Lisbon tomorrow morning. Excited to explore the country we've learned so much about from you!
Great video, as usual. My wife is Japanese and felt the need to advise that nanbanjin is actually "Southern Barbarians", because the ships came up from the south
As an Australian ,(made in Paris born in Australia), to Portuguese parents... I wish they'd never left beautiful Portugal. Everytime I return to Portugal which is very few and far between, I feel like I'm home!! Portugal will always be in my blood! I'm so proud that the rest of the world now realizes that Europe doesn't end at the Spanish border. To the beautiful people of Portugal .. you are the heart and soul of why travellers feel so welcome. Obrigado!! Saudades! ❤️🇵🇹 From 🇦🇺🦘🌏
Excellent video! Great editing I’m originally from the Azores and visiting Lisbon for the first time in my life in February on the way to the Azores and returning in March to spend a week exploring the mainland. Looking forward to seeing it in person.
Dave! I adore your videos, the informative content, great editing and your genuine nature to name just a few things. This video has to be my favourite thus far. I was LOL-ing and also even teared up once or twice. Looks like you've made some superb top quality friends. I am so looking forward to my upcoming trip to Portugal. Even more stoked thanks to your videos. Its a beautiful life~
I just made a comment about Mario on another video, saying how nice he is and how good he is at his work. And now it gets even better. He's smart, and he knows how the city has changed because of the massive tourism. I might take a ride with him one of these days, just to meet him and talk to him. Another great vídeo, Dave.
I’ll be back in Lisboa in two weeks. As a pescatarian I’m super excited to check out O Palácio! Thanks to Mario for sharing. I really enjoyed hearing about Hema and Ricardo’s restaurant. I love visiting India just as much as I do visiting Portugal. Piri Piri Masala sounds like perfection ❤
Dave, Mario is obviously the star of the video, but you are definitely going to leave Portugal a better place. Your videos are SO well made. I have been watching this one more for the production values than for the content and it is impeccable. So congratulations to you.
Dave I’m going to tell you what I really like about you. You are bringing the locals “UP” with you. You are living the life I was dreaming of when I was planning to moved to Portugal. Living with the locals. I was not interested in Lisbon Porto and some areas of The Algarve. I grew up in a small Island, living in a small town where everyone knew everyone and loved. Thanks for all the great videos you create showing us “Locals” living.
Great Video - big appreciation for the editing!! I love Portugal as well and want to move there in the future too, like you did. My parents did that in the 90s and we moved back to Germany, when I had to go to school. Connections still intense and it's my second home. Keep up the good work!
@DaveinPortugal - we are visiting in March- we booked a tour with Super Mario thanks to you!! Your videos have been amazing and he is SO nice- we loved your 24 hrs in Lisbon too-we can’t wait. Thanks for everything you do!!!! - Heather in Texas
Wow Dave - I’m living vicariously through you! Great friggin video!! I can’t wait to finally go to Portugal and take a Tuk Tuk ride, hopefully with Mario!
Your videos make me smile for a electronic device. =P You seem happy, and happy people are great company! I think you're really turning portuguese, nanananana! =)
Best video that I have seen so far from this channel! Extremely funny but also refreshing that the author is hanging out with older people than him instead of the opposite, which is what usually happens when Americans are abroad. To be fair, Europeans and other wealthy countries too have this obsession with youth, in a Peter Pan syndrome kind of way. Anyways, I am a Guatemalan that spent 30 years in the USA, and now in our 50s, my wife and I have moved to France close to the end of pandemic. The reason I found your videos and channel is that my wife's employer is organizing an event in Lisbon, and I am meeting her there for 5 days in Lisbon after that event. Continue the excellent work and couldn't agree more about the differences between the US and Europe! No place can be everything to even in one person, but the US of course has a lot, a lot of qualities too. This is especially true in self-belief, which is something that some countries like Portugal had when they were punching above their weight. BTW, for a second I thought you had Bobby Cannavale in the video, but it turned out to be Ricardo, or Portuguese twin of Bobby. It's also funny how Ibiza is being pronounced like iPad, iPhone, iPod...
This video was hilarious 😂😂. You all had a really good time. Dave, your face when you had that last sip of beer was priceless. You made me want to be back at the Portuguese marisqueiras to enjoy our beautiful petiscos.

This video is absolutely brilliant, with people who are not only very interesting but also absolutely genuine, which makes the video also like few others around here! Top of the Top!! Congratulations and please, continue with the excellent work on this small piece of land bathed by the sea.
Enjoyed your video! Noted all the places you went to and will be trying them soon when I move to Portugal from Canada in April. Hopefully I’ll be able to meet and make friends like you have! I’ll have one of those tall beers with you!😉
Great video! Will be there this September. On another note, Just let Mario know Hawaii has similar housing issues of many locals are having to move to the continental U.S. I believe the government should have had some hindsight as well. I liked your attitude towards traveling and being a tourist. Hopefully both our countries find answers for both residents and tourists. Glad to see you back Dave!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH, DAVE!! At this right moment, my eyes are full of tears, and my heart is tight. SAUDADE 34:04 . To see my neighbourhood of Alcantâra and Santo Amaro make my day. Thanks, Dave. Keep up the good work 👏 🙌 👍 👌

Great video ❤ Obrigada Thanks Dankie....only wish all of us who live and work here in the greater Lisbon area, could all afford a night out like that 😂 that seafood platter looks amazing . So wonderful to see someone so grateful, gracious and joyful.about being here 😊 so many new comers from afar need to exercise more patience, humility and appreciation.. ❤
this is the best episode ever Dave. we portuguse go to great extends to avoid saying any negative remark to others to not hurt their feeling. we write an essay of 1000 words just to give a simple message like "for the time being, i need to be more time alone doing my things". obviously, this implies that we assume reciprocal approach from others. when we hear/read any foreigner that lives in our country say something slightly negative about us or about our country, that just brings out all our barbarian dna and expect to be showered with rage, indignation, insults and so on. it is part of our culture to request from foreigners the utmost respect for our country. as it part of our DNA have the utmost respect for the country we are visiting or living. so, once again, we expect reciprocity. in some of your previous videos, i felt enraged with you here and there. with time i am more understanding of your character, and today i laughed with your cockiness/sarcasm, and i think that along the line, you and us will be a perfect match.
This reminds me how unpredictable my life used to be when I lived in Lisbon. One moment I was thinking about going home and 5 hours later we were leaving the club with the most insane story to tell.😂
Thanks, Dave! I am planning to start the Camino Portuguese in September with a tour group.... Marly Camino. We will come early to visit some of the places you featured in your videos! I don't have a natural " tongue" for the language but will practice! Maybe we'll trip over you somewhere on the streets of Porto! MaryAnn

hello and thank u for show our beautiful culture and citys in portugal . thank you Dave. lisbon its the city that i born and im proud for this .
this is the best episode ever Dave. we portuguse go to great extends to avoid saying any negative remark to others to not hurt their feeling. we write an essay of 1000 words just to give a simple message like "for the time being, i need to be more time alone doing my things". obviously, this implies that we assume reciprocal approach from others.
when we hear/read any foreigner that lives in our country say something slightly negative about us or about our country, that just brings out all our barbarian dna and expect to be showered with rage, indignation, insults and so on.
it is part of our culture to request from foreigners the utmost respect for our country. as it part of our DNA have the utmost respect for the country we are visiting or living. so, once again, we expect reciprocity.
in some of your previous videos, i felt enraged with you here and there. with time i am more understanding of your character, and today i laughed with your cockiness/sarcasm, and i think that along the line, you and us will be a perfect match.
Guy's what an amazing video . Just fantastic . Keep up the excellent work ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Best ep. ever Dave. Keep up the good work. Abraço
Obrigado Rui! Abraço
This reminds me how unpredictable my life used to be when I lived in Lisbon.
One moment I was thinking about going home and 5 hours later we were leaving the club with the most insane story to tell.😂
🙌🏻
Great🎉
Great video!!!
MaryAnn
This is the best video on this channel!! We want more of this kind!
Plenty more coming in 2024 😉
