I’ve been fortunate to not encounter many problems why flying but I definitely have just performing regular photography, setting up a tripod from a public place to take a picture of a building. More than once I have had security come and tell me I can’t take pictures of this building. My response was “well, unless you plan on throwing a tarp over it, it’s here for all to see” It’s always been the under trained security guard for me, when the actual police officer shows up, he just tells the security guard to move on. 🤷🏼♂️
Handled very well. Calm and professional. Most people here in Canada have some questions and I usually have another person to step in and field questions. If I'm by myself, I''ll advise them that questions will be answered once my aircraft is safe on the ground. Flying in Canada, many city parks are off limits for any RC controlled aircraft, drones or RC trucks/cars. Mostly referencing taking off and landing. Check the city bylaws online prior to arriving to any city or town parks.
I think this has less to do with the ignorance of people, and more to do with how people are being trained to be paranoid by their chosen form of information acquisition. I live in Thailand, and the locals never give my drone more than a passing glance. The one confrontation I had was with a very agressive western tourist who knew nothing about drone law in Thailand (but just assumed it was illegal) and rained his fear and hate upon me.
I think it's also weirdly egotistical. Like clearly this guy is flying his drone here to spy on ME and MY kids because we are so special. It's an empty park, he could fly this down a major street hidden from view and never be confronted, but he came here to record us because we are worthy of that. People need to get a grip with reality.
It's great the guy recorded this. I was filming a hyper lapse of the motorway here in Wales & a Karen was on Facebook saying there is a drone in the sky filming her kids in the garden. It was 9pm, dark & I was at max hight. I posted her the video I made
Spokane! What park? Let's have a drone party at that park. I will make the drive from Tri-cities for this kinda fun. This is why I carry business cards that say "Please feel free to Google FAA, Title 14, Chapter I, Subchapter F, Part 107" with my name and phone number on it too. Had one guy tell me he was gonna shoot my drone down, all I could say is "well that's not smart that's a federal crime to shot an aircraft. Can I get your name so I can tell the FAA why my drone crashed"
I live in a rural area and expected people to be drone Karens when I started droning but was I surprised, every one seems to love it. I get people who are curious and ask a ton of questions but it's based off of pure interest not paranoia. Fingers crossed people keep that upbeat attitude about drones here
Things like this are why I sadly will usually not take my kids with me on jobs or recreational/practice flights and why I’m always armed when I do fly.
he should have waited for the police. It's probably illegal for minor to smoke/vape, particularly in a public park. Then the minor would have been cited or ticket.
Look this type of reaction is extremely common for any man holding ANY camera. Whether you are using a drone, or if you are a Pro Photographer, a Pro Videographer, or even simply using your smart phone. When any man is using any device which has any camera he can and eventually will be approached by people like this. And here's what you need to know. [1] Be prepared to call 911, [2] make sure to capture license plate numbers for later ID, [3] record every moment of the interaction and try to avoid provoking them, [4] de-escalate if possible, [5] make absolutely sure that you are not in violation of anything for instance empty beer cans in your car or whatever, [6] KNOW WHO THE LAWYERS ARE AND HAVE THEIR PHONE NUMBERS HANDY before this drama can happen ... you need this in advance. [7] Document the attack, and the final step is to follow up by SUING them. And you really do need to sue because believe me there are cases where innocent people get railroaded and wind up in prison and that is NOT an exaggeration. It needs to be treated as an assault, and a false accusation. This is criminal slander. And when you are slandered in this specific way ... they need to GO TO JAIL. DOCUMENT IT AND CALL THE LAWYER.
I cant understand ignorant people and then on top of it wanting to argue about their ignorance. Great video and loves your drone content man keep up the good work
WHen people ask -- I just show them the video. Usually when they see that you've got a camera that is 100 feet up and 400 feet away -- there is no detail that you can see on the drone camera. Its not the SUPER SPY CAMERA that people think they are.
Sad thing is, they’re going to spread rumors to their friends about how drones suck and are infringing on privacy. I wonder if it is against the law for the kid to threaten Darin (?) and if it’s destruction of property if he did break his drone. Keep calm and fly on.
Liberty can die over a few generations. Tell such people to make a law controlling something they don't like and someone else will make more laws, and soon you have less freedoms. Oh wait!
Oh boy! I also live in Spokane and hope I don’t run into these people anytime soon. People always assume if they see a drone that it means it’s looking at them.
Loved the part where it went from "You're flying over my children" to "There's nobody here. Why are flying here ?" Also: Why is it ALWAYS the People you definitely don't want pictures of, that think you're photographing them ?

One thing that has worked for me so far, as soon as anyone starts walking towards me while my drone is in the air. My first words are something along the lines of "Hey, wanna see this cool view?", it normally puts them on the back foot. So then I shove me screen in their face, and they see the distance view and just shut up. A lot of encounters like that can be prevented by preempting their angry questions/statements with a friendly offer of them to have a look at how great the view of the area via the drone is. And if I've already landed, I pull up the pictures and offer for them to have a look. Plus then I get to advertise my Facebook page and ask them to become a follower.

Many times when I've been out, flying parents bring their kids up to see what I'm doing and the kids are just fascinated with it. A course I always show them the footage from the camera. They think it is the greatest thing ever.
Here in NW Arkansas, we deal with people shooting at drones a lot more than anything. I was going to get into para motoring and decided not to because I don't want to get shot.
In a case like this, I'm glad I live in Belize. Getting a drone through customs is ridiculously expensive. But once it's here I can fly anywhere I want, and I've never had anybody even hint that I wasn't supposed to be there. Last weekend, I actually flew my drone inside a beach resort, right over the pools and around the bar area. Everybody just thought it was cool.

If I'm by myself, I''ll advise them
that questions will be answered once my aircraft is safe on the ground.
Flying in Canada, many city parks are off limits for any RC controlled aircraft, drones or RC trucks/cars. Mostly referencing taking off and landing. Check the city bylaws online prior to arriving to any city or town parks.
Damn! That's MY flying spot! I recognize the green and yellow water tower by the library.
I am from coeur d alene. What park is this and when can we all fly there lol
@@DroningaboutNW We definitely need to set up a fun fly day. It’s Shadle Park, one block west of the Shadle Walmart.
@@jimbubbatube I'm in the area and I've been looking for local pilots to fly with! What's a good way to get in contact, if you're down?
@@pyro3rg yeah how tf do they think that anybody is wanting to spying on their lame ass
It's great the guy recorded this.
I was filming a hyper lapse of the motorway here in Wales & a Karen was on Facebook saying there is a drone in the sky filming her kids in the garden.
It was 9pm, dark & I was at max hight.
I posted her the video I made
She wishes you were filming her kids.
I had someone asked me can you see people inside their house? 😆🤣 had to educate them.
I wouldn't be surprised if they're mad because they're committing crimes and don't want their faces to be captured.
Well there you go. That is exactly the same game that my neighbor tried playing. Wow.
@3.52 you can literally see the steam come out of his ear, first time ive seen that. LOL
🤣🤣🤣
I’m actually taking a break from my Part 107 renewal review to watch this 😄
You know the world is doomed when she’s screaming about her overweight, 30 yo, bearded son as “children”.
HAAAAAAA! Yup.
Ha 😆😆😆😆😆😆😆 i
I would bet they were using some snort of substance in the park and did not want to be on video.
Oh wow. Haha, this is your classic 711 family meal night at the local park. 😋
Spokane!
Thank you so
If your logic is true. I’ll never win an argument because all I do is cuss lol
🤣
I live in a rural area and expected people to be drone Karens when I started droning but was I surprised, every one seems to love it. I get people who are curious and ask a ton of questions but it's based off of pure interest not paranoia. Fingers crossed people keep that upbeat attitude about drones here
Things like this are why I sadly will usually not take my kids with me on jobs or recreational/practice flights and why I’m always armed when I do fly.
That woman seems insane and rude.
Both clearly shown by the fine young man she is raising.
he should have waited for the police.
Great video and loves your drone content man keep up the good work
Thanks!
Oh wait!
Holy son of a biscuit eater, I can feel the pain of trying to communicate with these animals.
"I feel threatened so by law I could fight you" 🤣
Ok so they seem a bit paranoid, bet they have a trunk load of bad stuff
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups
I love when people run up to you screaming stop recording me 🤣🤣🤣🙄🤣 if I wasn't filming you before I definitely am now 😜😜
YUUUP.
Wonder what they were up to in order to get that wound up
Oh boy! I also live in Spokane and hope I don’t run into these people anytime soon. People always assume if they see a drone that it means it’s looking at them.
Why even engage with the Addams family 😆😆😆🤣
NO! the children were amazed and just like to see the drone on the air.
I think we all need your shirt Ken lol
Flying not spying!!
Link in the description! 😁
She's just pissed off that her husband finished of the big bag of pork rids...lol
Loved the part where it went from "You're flying over my children" to
"There's nobody here. Why are flying here ?"
Also: Why is it ALWAYS the People you definitely don't want pictures of,
that think you're photographing them ?
🤣🤣🤣 Yuuup.
In Florida, we'd just rob all of them, including phones. Lmao 🤣
Go ahead, call the cops. They won't unwhoop your ass. Lmao!
Before I even got my first drone my neighbor thought drones were looking in her window. She called us on night and said see that blinking light up in the air? It was a plane overhead. Folks, especially ignorant ones, have some weird ideas about drones. I am just waiting for the day she accuses us now that my wife and I both have one.
Many people have an ego that extends around & above them into the entire universe. They believe that anything that might hear them is listening to them, & anything that might see them is looking at them. They think they really matter but in reality, they don't that much.
If they don't like being recorded, they don't have to be at the park.
They haven't even seen the Drone up close. It would be even more funny if the Drone didn't have a camera 🤣
My local Karen called both the city police (while not in the city) and the county sheriff. (both loved seeing the video from the drone)
Yikes, Karen’s are always so insane
Especially those from “blue states”.
@@cameraman655 this happened in a red state
@@FPVphilly doesn't negate the concept that the blue state Karens are statistically more likely to be insane .....
@@ErnieShown blue states are in general open to drones. I live in PA and close to NJ which are blue states and never have issues with flying. Where I saw before it’s that in red states they more than likely are not open to drones and they always trying to come with local laws to block drones from flying.
@@FPVphilly I believe that this happened in Spokane Washington and WA is rather blue.
Darren was so calm and collected, amen to the cops have far better things to do then somebody flying a drone around!!
Drone Karen's broke my spirit. Lol. Every 3rd time I flew I had a Karen and many of them became violent. So I took a break and haven't flown in over a year. I'm planning to go hit it again this summer. I have no idea how I'm going to mentally prepare myself for it. There has got to be a stream-lined process in which to deal with them successfully and safely.
Thanx
Marc :)
Find a FAA-approved FRIAS area to start.
In public, there is no expectation of privacy. Period.

Well, I was gonna watch something else but this was in my recommended. LOL
You don’t put your drone in your pocket or in your mouth like that vape pen either. lol
See kids vaping can make you paranoid. 😂
Many times when I've been out, flying parents bring their kids up to see what I'm doing and the kids are just fascinated with it. A course I always show them the footage from the camera. They think it is the greatest thing ever.
Doing it for the children. That's what it's all about.
remote id just means i'm packing my weapon all the time now.
Most people are so ignorant that they wouldn't know about RID.
Those “children” look like full grown adults from where I was standing.
Did the "child" say "technically by law I can fight you"? 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah. I was thinking" technically, but not in real life."
Funny how none of these people worry about how cell phones can record anything and everything with ease.
Here in NW Arkansas, we deal with people shooting at drones a lot more than anything. I was going to get into para motoring and decided not to because I don't want to get shot.
I would've asked these people what makes them so special that I want to be filming them lmao. They're nobody.
@4:28 that person actually said " technically by law I can fight you" 🤣😂🤣
Didn't those knucklehead's figure out that if he was actually videoing children, he probably would have left when they first confronted him?
Funny how important certain people think they are that we even care about them or what they are doing.

We have a society of narcissists. Just look at the popularity of Reels and Tik Tok. Everyone thinks they're so fucking compelling.
"Close your eyes! The priviledged folks are passing by and we cant watch them on public places!"
anyone else think its awesome his shirt says JUSTICE? HAHAHAHAH
I'm in a pretty rural part Pennsylvania and I've dealt with people from time to time. I fly fpv with goggles so I stay in my car when I fly in a public place so nobody can bother me. Everybody who hassled me seems to think they are Annie Oakley and will shoot it down..
This should be renamed to Player tries to talk to NPCs. 😂
I have never seen someone so mad that steam comes out of their ear 3.54
Karen would think we pilots are so miserable with our thousands dollars drone that we have to find excitement on filming weird ass people vaping 🤣
In Karen’s defense, there are way too many sunbathing children where I live. It’s hard not to come across a toddler working on his base tan!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Havnt had a cigarette in 3 years thanks to vapes. But I still crash my drones all the time.
This exact similar situation happened to me in NY and I always tell them if you want to be educated on the law waste the cops time and when I showed the cop I had even put a drone area alert out for the area I was flying in and I screen shot everything and had everything in order with my FAA reg for rec pilots the cop said I was the most organized person with it and literally took no more then 2min of my time told me to enjoy the calm winds Went back to them for about five min and then left they were so mad and I continued to fly for another 45min they don't realize my dji mini se camera can't see anything once it's 300 feet up I'm just cloud watching haha
What do you mean by, "drone area alert?"
@@lateral1385 Never heard of that either...
@@lateral1385 If you make an account with 1800wxbrief, you can write your own "DROTAM" that is available to everyone, no different really than a NOTAM published by the FAA. I've signed up and gone through the process without submitting one, but I've not done a real one yet.
