- Though absent from the local scene for nearly 20 years, Shabba Ranks has always retained pre-eminence in the nucleus of Dancehall. After years of calling, Sumfest finally got the nod from the Ranks for it's 20th anniversary staging to make only his second appearance on home soil in two decades, the last being sashing in 2001.The Dancehall emperor arrived on the island to a welcome befitting a true superstar and graces our stage right now.
When I saw/heard his beautiful speech at Mama Christie's funeral my respect and admiration for him as a man and icon skyrocketed. Always loved him from day one.
Other DJ's should take a lessons from this interview. Real family man. No gyal inna bungle! No whole heap a Pinckney inna bungle.

Now Shabba is the real dancehall king the young artists them should look up to and praise. He's a real family man with a beautiful black family, he's a business man and he's very intelligent and humble. He is so real, I see why Alkaline like him.

Listening to him, I was in my teenage years when his Mom got baptized at my cousin's church in Seaview Gardens. I couldn't see him as the church members crowded around him. His Mom was a stalwart member, bought my cousin shirt for his wedding, plus chaperone them in the Mercedes Benz Shabba bought her. She was such a kind lady...fast forward to years later, I took in his Show at Sashi, he stole the whole show, P Diddy was there, and he said if he didn't get pay, he would leave Shabba to close the show...real performer..
I didn't know he was this inspiring and motivating always sending a positive message to jamaicans and the youths. Love the way he also speak of his wife highly!

This was a very refreshing, invigorating, nostalgic interview. I too am, and always was a huge fan of the "great Shabbat Ranking" aka " Emperor Ground". My daughter sent me the link for me to watch. She knows how much I talk about how real authentic " Dancehall" music was and how much I loved it. Seeing Shabba himself talk about those days and the dedication and passion it took to even establish yourself as an artist set him above the rest made me feel humanly connected to the vibe he was on.
As for today's music, I sway mostly towards Rasta reggae music. The tree still dehya, but it needs fresh water.
Nuff respect to the 1 and only Emperor Ground.
I've been watching his old music videos when he was young. Mad energy and something else but today his heart is humble he love his wife and children and he loves God and gives God the glory that belongs to God. Bless you sir more success to you.

Shaba still ranks tough and well love, top among the toughest Jamaican musician artists them out there. In the city of Freetown, the country of Sierra Leone in West Africa. He's a star like Bob his pictures, paintins are in every corner. Respect.
