Jean Grey always been elite omega level mutant Even without the Phoenix people gotta respect that. This is a perfect time to expand upon that. She’s definitely one my fav X-men characters for that reason.
Jean is not an Omega Level Mutant. Jean has an Omega Level Power which makes her an Omega Level Telepath. Storm, Iceman and Magneto are Omega Level Mutants. So there are Omega Level Mutants and then there are Omega Level Powers! Jean should very well be an Omega Level Mutant but obviously Exodus’s telekinetic powers are more vast than hers which makes him an Omega Level Telekinetic cause his telekinetic powers are unlimited and cannot be surpassed by no other.
@@popcultureclips182 Yeah did and she deserves to be because to me Jean is an Omega Level Mutant and not solely a telepath OL. I know they had to write her down where she would be able to fit into battle because they stated that if they had made Storm an OLM at the time then she’d be like Phoenix as far as dying off and coming cause they are too powerful to do anything with..who could stand against them but I went on elsewhere and Jean is an OLM with OL telepathic abilities. Jean (not Phoenix) is one of my top 10’s top 5 favorites.
@@LarryDWilmore79 I think you slightly misunderstood Hickman classification. If you have an omega level power, you are an omega level mutant. I think you're mixing Hickmans new definition of omega level with the og version of omega level. 🤔 Jean is an omega level mutant and the power that Makes her omega level is telepathy (unfortunately only telepathy but still a very powerful telekinetic). In this new run, any omega level power makes you an omega level mutant
IT’S ABOUT FKN TIME Jean acted at Omega level. For as great as Dawn of X has been to Storm I feel Jean has suffered, being severely downplayed, even going out of the way to show what she can’t do in a few comics (which as far as telepathy goes, that’s the whole point of being Omega, there SHOULDN’T be anything within the power set she can’t do unless it’s an unknown feat). I love when power sets are expressed logically, like Pokémon in that some powers work better against others. Heavy hitters like any Wolverine, Magneto, Cyclops, Iceman, Sunfire, etc wouldn’t do well against Nightmare but this was right up Jean’s ally. Kudos to the creative team for this issue!
I think they are still trying to get Jean down that she is no longer tied to the Phoenix. Thing is they did a way better job with teenage Jean when she came back from the past. That Jean was showing some amazing feats considering she was new to her powers. She even developed a whole new powerset to absorb ambient psychic energy from the environment to empower her....where did that go? Since adult Jean return we saw a few moments of her glory. She did warn Black Bolt that Phoenix held her back which I totally believe as she was more tapping into its power than building her own. She very recently penetrated Knull's mind who is a cosmic level entity and uber powerful...she even mangaed to hurt him and read his oldest thoughts...this is someone billions of years old. Here she made quick work of nightmare. They have downgraded Jean though as she isn't an omega level telekinetic, just a telepath, but they really shouldn't have done that. I do think that will be something that will be forgotten because she has shown some impressive telekinetic feats recently.
@@Ephideltrance although the Omega rule of “only one power is Omega level” stands for everybody, I think for Jean specifically they already had Exodus who historically is super powerful and Kid Omega who also has telepathy. With Kid Omega there was no other choice but to have them both be Omega level telepaths but with telekinesis it was a way for them to give Exodus an edge over Jean so he stands apart. Otherwise he’d be redundant as far as Omega level classification goes. And for him, he’s not as frequent a character, as big a personality or as overall popular as Kid Omega, so they had to have something to make him stand out and be on that Omega roster legitimately. But I agree, her telekinesis is no slouch. Even if not Omega level she’s done Incredible things with it and it gets downplayed a lot recently. You’re right about Jean’s more recent telepathic feats, I’m just comparing to moments where her abilities are downplayed. Example, Trial of Magneto highlighted what she couldn’t do. There’s another specific moment I’m trying to remember as well. But even in HoX when they infiltrated Orchis, even Emma frost can make entire crowds sleep, so nobody can tell me Jean couldn’t make every human on the station just go to sleep, even if she had to board the station and do it section by section…and I realize that wasn’t the role set up for her at the moment according to their dumb ass plan, but that’s a fault of the writing to just make the X-Men lose for story purposes where it really didn’t (and even now with Inferno) make sense for them to lose.
@@JM-gc7hz yeah the writers are very inconsistent. One moment Jean cannot enter Magneto's mind but here she can bitch slap an entity like nightmare...it makes no sense. Thing is Marvel has too many telepaths and since telepathy is so op it often gets nerfed or blocked by some random tech.

A great example of the difference in scale between Jean and other telepaths would be when she and Emma entered Xaviers mind to save him from Cassandra Nova. Cassandra changed Xaviers mindscape into a labyrinth of twisted images and traps. Emma had to carefully maneuver around them and take her time to not fall prey to Cassandras traps. Jean however CHANGED the altered mindscape as she walked through it, manifesting a phoenix raptor and literally changing the reality within Xaviers mind to create a direct path to Cassandra. In a telepaths own mindscape they are supposed to be all powerful, just like a mystic like Magik is all powerful in their own domain. Jean however is top tier and allpowerful regardless of whos mind she is in.
I'm so happy you acknowledge Jean Grey as one of the most interesting character of the X-Men. Please let this people know how powerful she is without the phoenix always around.
Cyclop's fear is the reason he's my fav x-men. Due to him being the leader of the x-men and everyone assumes all mutants are x-men, Cyclops is seen as the leader of all mutantdom. Every desicion he makes and doesn't, reflects his entire kind. And as a black man, i understand that feeling...that fear of having to represent everyone that looks like you.

Ikr! As a Cyclops fan for a very long time, I just wanna see him unlock the full potential of his mutant power. But I guess X-Men writers won't allow this to happen.
What's strange is that it was proven that mutants can request upgrades to their physiology with each resurrection, so all those times he died trying to infiltrate Orchis, he could have asked them to "fix" his eyes. TBH it never made much sense that Scott's powers destroyd his eye lids becuse he's stated be immune to the effects of his power.
They undermined Scott's full capabilities here as well. Scott's mind was able to completely resist Emma's psychic invasion while deep asleep and he also trapped at kept the Void, Sentry's nemesis inside his brain. Unless he likes to let his guard down whenever Jean is around or his new resurrections involves his blocks and barriers by the Professors or Sinister, so that he can be controlled easily.
With Jean’s powers she could burst 💥 blood vessels inside the human body, or suck the air right out of a person’s 🫁 lungs. As for her Omega level telepathic powers she is kick ass and her equals are few in number

A bit off topic but Vulcan’s powers function very similar to those of Monica Rambeau. So he should be able to assume a pure energy form and do the same things she can.
@@vginsprdsobepr9698 yes within the electromagnetic spectrum. There r other forms of energy and she can't control them. Vulcan can literally control all types of energy on a high level, that's why he is an Omega level mutant

Now Jean can relate with Emma’s experience with Nightmare (in Generation X #22: All Hallows’ Eve). Also, double points on who can guess what scenes (in those panels, in those costumes, in previous runs) that Scott was apologizing about? Also, Krakoa burning is surely a nod to Inferno. I mean, all the post-Inferno #1 comics have made a nod of some sort and they’re not hard to miss in seeing Krakoa getting burnt! Last thing, I think Feilong might turn into the so-called Cosmic Ray Hulk that Al Ewing mentioned through Red Hulk in Immortal Hulk #50, since he’s a master at acknowledging the events in Marvel akin to Gerry and the X-writers.
@@afro_princess1671 yea I don’t think he was trying to fight about who is better, this comment is really unnecessary. Especially cos Emma has shown a lot more skill than any telepath really ever has, Jean has raw power, but Emma uses her powers in a much more varied and creative ways.
@@DD-gr2lr I wasn't either. I was talking about their experiences. And no Emma doesn't have better skills than Jean Grey. It was dominated over and over again. In New X-men Jean and Emma went into X's mind to save him from Cassandra's traps. Emma couldnt pass the first level where Jean did all the work. Again, Emma couldnt make Sabertooth stop talking and submit when Jean could. In Gaint Size X-men Jean and Emma went into Storm's mind to save her. Yet the same thing in New X-men happened. Emma was useless and Jean saved her over and over again. She didn't even know what she was doing. Jean has the best skills, she is the one who trained Psylocke. She was easily able to read the mind of Knull and just defeated Nightmare. That is skill. And Emma herself admitted that. And let's not forget that Jean has been Phoenix for almost her entire life, and also countered some cosmic beings like the Stranfer, Death, Eternity etc..
Emma has technically more finesse with her psychic skills and is a top tier psychic in marvel but the level of Xavier/Jean without Phoenix can just out muscle Emma. Its metaphorically a toddler arm wrestling an adult. "Give me everything you got, but watch this"
It’s basically an intrusion of privacy. And we’ll Jean is mostly the one to be respectful towards others minds. Professor Emma and kwanin not so much. Basically if he forces these feelings/memories on her she might not take it lightly and rekindle that dead flame of love.
To be honest, the Phoenix was an hindrance and was holding her back, this is not to say that the Phoenix wasn’t useful or powerful, am saying that the Phoenix was a power boost.
@@pierre0227 they do have a lot of similarities. The biggest difference though is that Wanda has yet to have the depth of character development that Jean has had in regards to her crimes against humanity. Jean has been absolved of the genocide caused by Dark Phoenix because it technically was never Jean, but a clone made by the Phoenix while Jean was healing in a psychic cocoon. However since most people still attribute that crime to Jean, she spends her days trying to atone for a crime she technically never committed and is willing to accept that as part of her life. She knows she will never be forgiven but chooses to still do good in the world. Wanda however has never been absolved of MDay. It was Wanda all along. Yes Doom was involved, yes she lost control, but it was her. Wanda has spent her life ever since that day trying to atone for her sins, believing that she can set things right. Wanda wants to be forgiven by mutantkind. So badly she literally tried to resurrect an entire city of them. She tries so hard to redeem herself and everytime she tries she fails. Hard. Jean has moved on from her sins and continues to be a hero for her people. Wanda can’t escape her sins and tries to be a hero but often finds herself in the grey zone. They are both insanely powerful women. Their character and personalities though differ quite a bit.
I am appreciating this issue is more characters focused and Jean got to flex on this one pretty hard. Really glad the Laura and synch relationship isn't another sweep under the rug kind of situation like so many other pairings.
Emma should be recognized as an omega level mutant, she’s been described as an omega level telepath, which isn’t the same thing, but still. Emma has done far more with her mutant powers than any telepath really, she’s far more creative and skilled in her abilities than just raw power. I mean she completely embarrassed iceman, an omega level mutant, using his own powers in ways he till this day hasn’t been able to replicate, she’s schooled Quentin as well, who’s actually a so called omega level mutant in telepathy and he’s utterly useless against her power in the same field. I mean she’s even made him sh!t his own pants for Christ’s sake. She’s even mentally back slapped the hell outta pro x, who everyone thinks is such a skilled telepath. Emma always gets torn down in comparison to jeans omega status but I don’t think that’s fair, she deserves a lot more credit and to not just have to be compared to Jean.
First of all what makes u think Emma deserves the list? Even the original Omega level mutant was thrown out of the list (Rachel Grey) Emma defeated Quentin because he is inexperienced with his powers. Even thr Cuckoos kicked his ass. Emma was able to own X's mind to 2 reasons 1- she already created a space and had the time to prepare to hold him when he entered Cyclops' mind. Its a prep and doesn't count and 2- X wanted to clear his name. He already stated he could defeat Emma, that his mind is more powerful. But since Sinister possessed him. He wanted the X-men to know that he is on the clear. But what makes u think Alpha level mutants rnt capable of great feats? Sinister, Apocalypse, Selene, X, Psylocke, Rogue etc r all Alpha level mutants yet they r capable of leveling an entire planet and teams. Iceman doesn't have psychic defense so that statement shouldn't work. She can be mind controlled but that doesn't make a telepath be an Omega level mutant
As noted in the review, Emma is skilled and creative with her power but uses aids for most phenomenal feats. She cannot successfully host the full Phoenix force, only a portion, without it burning her up. She has not held the full unbodied psyche of the Professor as Jean once did. Love Emma, but she has her upper limits.
Really great analysis as always. I had so much with this issue, even tho it was clearly a detour from all the action and main plots. I loved how u pointed out that jean is so much better than her cartoons adaptations. Congratulations man, keep the great work
Jean is definitely the modern day woman, she's kind, compassionate, loving, and will bitch slap you as necessary, so don't mess with the people she loves.
That's the thing, Jean never killed anyone as Dark Phoenix. It was a clone created by the Phoenix Force while Jean was in a cocoon at the bottom of Jamaica Bay.
Maybe apart of her psyche was still within this clone of retaining the memories of what the dark Phoenix had done. That’s my theory. Also since her taking the help of the PF she feels responsible to whatever actions it causes
@@lilmoon1890 that's is basically what happened. The phoenix took a piece of her soul with her during the phoenix saga. @@kennyward33 it's literally thr same thing. When u say an Omega class/level telepath u r specifying exactly what their power is. Omega class telekinesis Omega class telepath Omega class elemental manipulation These means what kinda power they have. It's very specific. But u can't be an Omega level anything if u r not an Omega level mutant urself. It's the mind and the body structure of the mutant that makes them Omega level. It's not the power. @@sariel284 when she is Necrosha yes. She was the goddess of darkness, being even mutants or mutation. But it was short lived lol. Being an Omega level mutant means having the body and the mind to house tremendous amount of energy. She would need time and millions of souls in order to reach that level and everytime she doesn't train a life force, she becomes weaker. That takes her off the table..
I feel like you are mixing up facts here. For one Emma Frost is indeed an omega level TELEPATH, while Jean on the other hand is an omega level MUTANT. Which means that the mutation of telepathy Emma Frost possesses has seemingly limitless potential. Meanwhile, Jean is an omega level mutant which means that all of her powers have the potential to grow without limitations but the thing with potential is that it's not something that's set in stone. Potential just means that the possibility is there, whether or not you will reach it is an entirely different matter.
Let's see if he gives the Mutants a chance to speak for themselves, to be fair, then we'll see how great a man Ben is. I hope so though, we need good men (esp. in the Media) who is fair, decent, and seeks the truth regardless of politics and money.
What really annoyed me is that you don't understand Jean was never the Dark Phoenix. The Phoenix Force healed her underneath Jamaica Bay whilst living her life. She copied Jean's entire look and powers and lived her life. She was then manipulated by Mastermind and she became the Dark Phoenix. Jean never was the Dark Phoenix, she never committed atrocities. That was just the Phoenix Force who was confused.
Hate to agree with Emma Frost on anything, but it was an ugly Marvel Girl costume. But Jean doesn't need fashion advise from someone who pans back & forth between stripper costumes & frumpy business suits.
Is Feilong absorbing power from a ruby quartz made by Alia McGregor? Is he going to become bonded by a secret backup sentience of Erasmus? Will he become the human Nimrod should his body become the host to Erasmus?
Because Mystique is older than Wolverine/Logan with the skills and experience to match and has influence among mutants that almost equal to Emma Frost, Magneto and Xavier. No other mutant shapeshifter has the potential for storytelling that she does. Also, the use other shapeshifters weren't in the movies or played by Jennifer Lawrence lol

Jean technically didn't kill all those people. Phoenix made a copy of Jean and placed her in suspended animation. Phoenix took her place in the X-Men and was so good at impersonating Jean, that all the other X-Men believed her to be Jean.
@@bradonbriffa9690 Can you tell me which are wrong details? Feilong is using ruby quartz, he says so. The Crimson Gem of Cyttorak is not made of ruby quartz. no its cause jean as a character didnt earn her power upgrades, the phoenix became her, then after that she was badass. before the phoenix jean was a struggle bus for making her interesting. thats why it always leads back to the phoenix. look at psylocke, we watched her earn her power base as the ninja telepath. but then claremont came back and tried to do the phoenix treatment with her as well too. it was horrible. its too easy to "unlock" these potentials. i loved watching young jean develop her abilities, i wish we could see more of that. look at emma vs rachel in uncanny xmen. emma schooled her about power vs skill. and that says a lot more than the omega mutant discussion.
U r forgetting that X put a psychic block in her mind and she has a limited access to her power because it was so vast. Jean actually trained Psylocke and later unlocked her full potential. Jean always held back despite having mental blocks because she was afraid of the Phoenix Force. Didn't u read X-men Red and Phoenix Resurrection? To her, everything that they did she remembers them as if she did it because a part of her soul (influenced by phoenix or not) did. I know it's complicated. @@LarryDWilmore79 but Hickman placed her under the omega level mutant list
In this new run, any omega level power makes you an omega level mutant
not to mention she's the only mutant born with two gifts
@@Ephideltrance Certainly Agree!

@@oluwadamilola6233 inconsistent? A demon Lord who is powerful enough. Even at his weakest he was able to torment Emma Frost.
Jean Grey defeated him inside the dreamworld

In Gaint Size X-men Jean and Emma went into Storm's mind to save her. Yet the same thing in New X-men happened. Emma was useless and Jean saved her over and over again.

To be honest, the Phoenix was an hindrance and was holding her back, this is not to say that the Phoenix wasn’t useful or powerful, am saying that the Phoenix was a power boost.
This issue made me realize how Jean and Wanda have a lot in common.
How so?
@@LarryDWilmore79 Jean has a lot do deal with having been a destroyer of planets or an entire race. Wanda had dealt with something similar.
Wanda however has never been
absolved of MDay.

Even the original Omega level mutant was thrown out of the list (Rachel Grey)
Emma defeated Quentin because he is inexperienced with his powers. Even thr Cuckoos kicked his ass.
Emma was able to own X's mind to 2 reasons
1- she already created a space and had the time to prepare to hold him when he entered Cyclops' mind. Its a prep and doesn't count and
2- X wanted to clear his name.
Emma Frost can eat knuckles, Omega is an exclusive club of which she doesn't belong!
@@darthonyx2382 if Emma should be Omega level then Rachel needs to come back, and X, Betsy, Apocalypse etc should be Omega too

She cannot successfully host the full Phoenix force, only a portion, without it burning her up. She has not held the full unbodied psyche of the Professor as Jean once did. Love Emma, but she has her upper limits.
The fact that Emma needs a diamond form to guard against physical and mental attacks when Jean only needs her mind suggests otherwise.

Hate to agree with Emma Frost on anything, but it was an ugly Marvel Girl costume.
But Jean doesn't need fashion advise from someone who pans back & forth between stripper costumes & frumpy business suits.
I want Synch back with Monet , to me there age gap just bothers me...lol
Is Feilong absorbing power from a ruby quartz made by Alia McGregor? Is he going to become bonded by a secret backup sentience of Erasmus? Will he become the human Nimrod should his body become the host to Erasmus?
Bill Cipher vs Nightmare
Wasn’t the real Jean Grey under the sea while a Phoenix clone did the killing?
Is Fei Long a historical name? I always think your talking about the Street Fighter character.
Can you do Jean Grey VS Wanda maximoff
FEI may be turning himself into a bomb, but my question is, if mystique is being so troublesome then why not use copycat or morph.
He turning himself into a nimrod..
Im not sure if i missed cyclops being dying/reborn in this run but wouldnt that have fixed his issue controlling his power?
Its called plot not only his control should've been fixed vía resurrection but vía the 2 omega level telepath as well, or lasty the obvous one is have the omega level healer Elixir heal it. Theirs no exuse anymore if Its mental their 2 solution for that, if Its a wound their another solution for that. To be honest I don't see the reason of him not have complete control over his powers maybe their scared he mighy get op (not that the mutan race doesnt already got a billions of them lol)
Jean technically didn't kill all those people. Phoenix made a copy of Jean and placed her in suspended animation. Phoenix took her place in the X-Men and was so good at impersonating Jean, that all the other X-Men believed her to be Jean.
She said it was her in this issue. She was Dark Phoenix!
12:55 'all she does is make orgasmic moans and passed out and screams Scott'"s name' 😂
God, this guy. Lmao.
Looked like Fei Long is trying to be the Fantastic Juggernaut
Wrong gem though, Feilong was using ruby quartz... same stuff that Scott's visor is made of.
@@Katzztar wrong details but aesthetic is the same, big red rock. Would be funny if he came out as the Red Thing.
@@bradonbriffa9690 Can you tell me which are wrong details? Feilong is using ruby quartz, he says so.
The Crimson Gem of Cyttorak is not made of ruby quartz. It's a magical creation that takes the form of a faceted ruby. It's also a path to enter a difrerent dimension called Crimson Cosmos, where Cyttorak himself resides.
@@Katzztar I'm just having g a little fun mate, I'm not being serious at all.
no its cause jean as a character didnt earn her power upgrades, the phoenix became her, then after that she was badass. before the phoenix jean was a struggle bus for making her interesting. thats why it always leads back to the phoenix. look at psylocke, we watched her earn her power base as the ninja telepath. but then claremont came back and tried to do the phoenix treatment with her as well too. it was horrible. its too easy to "unlock" these potentials. i loved watching young jean develop her abilities, i wish we could see more of that. look at emma vs rachel in uncanny xmen. emma schooled her about power vs skill. and that says a lot more than the omega mutant discussion.
In 2018 Phoenix Resurrection Jean and the Phoenix Force departed and this was the first time Jean could tap her power deeper cos she was not afraid
@@afro_princess1671 the jean/psylocke power swap (which what was it was, not unlocking thats why psylockes mark was phoenix coloured for a wile) was once again another weird retcon of claremonts that involved a 6 month never explained gap. somehow jean gave psylocke her telekinesis and jean lost it until morrisons run.
I think the writers of Jean Grey's doubts don't understand The Phoenix/ Dark Phoenix aren't the actual Jean who killed billions of that star system 🌌!! Phoenix force duplicated itself to look ,sound & act so much like Jean even Charles Xavier couldn't realize Jean Grey's missing
Well... phoenix took a part of her soul with it during the phoenix saga... and that piece eventually got back to jean (after bonding to Madelyne) so she has the same emotions and memories of both dark phoenix and Madelyne. So she kinda did but she kinda didn't. It was a piece of her soul that was separated that experienced it and came back to her body later
@@smite505 So Jean Grey should take responsibility for a situation not only she doesn't have no control no memory & no power to prevent 🤨?? It's a noble sentiment when The Heros quietly takes responsibility for what THE VILLAINS DOES!! In my book 📖 they're NOT Children!!! Villain are aware of the Destruction & Havoc their powers are capable of!!! The heroes shops them!! Put the blame on those who'll RUIN the day Not SAVE the day!
@@jdjjdjd2667 thats the point, she does have memories of everything. That's the whole reason why she even sees cable as her son, because after the inferno arc she got the piece of her soul that was being used by Madelyne, that was given to her by phoenix because Jean initially rejected that part of her soul when phoenix 'died'. To her, everything that they did she remembers them as if she did it because a part of her soul (influenced by phoenix or not) did. I know it's complicated. But baseline phoenix needed a piece of Jean's soul to replicate her. That part of jeans soul merged with phoenix and created the jean of the phoenix arc. When the dark phoenix arc was over, that piece of her soul went to a basically brain dead/soulless Madelyne Pryor (which is why madelyne had some of Jeans memories). After madelyne died, that piece eventually came back to jean with all the emotions, memories, and experiences from phoenix and madelyne. She specifically didn't do it but for her there is no difference. She remembers it as if she did and in a way she did... some part of her actually soul was present during all of the destruction. This was explained decades ago, literally before I was born so it's understandable that some details are lost but that was how the inferno arc ended... with jean with the last piece of her soul back.
@@smite505 U seem to know what you're talking about therefore I'm not going on a HARD debate with U ( I agree with U at most of what you're saying) How do U separate a piece of a 👻 soul aren't they ghosts?? A conscious or personality I dig but 🤔?, then there's The Kang multiple beings , Cosmic 🌌
crazy huh?
@@jdjjdjd2667 lol it's complicated since souls are treated differently by each writers... but the interesting thing with Jean is that that piece of her soul occupied a body that was supposed to be a replica of her own to the point that she didn't even notice that "the rest of her" was elsewhere. "Jean" was there with phoenix in that body (well her soul fused with that of phoenixs to make the og green phoenix) so she was really disembodied like a ghost. It merged with phoenix then sat in a body just like her own, kinda like how they are resurrecting mutants now.
I thought they explained that Cyclops put a mental block on himself and that's why he couldn't control his power he even had control of them for a time in Astonishing X -Men oh wait that's continuity and we all know that's not important
Not as high octane as the other X-Men comics have been. I like it though.
I hate that Damm costume they should have at least upgraded it
Same. She's had so much better costumes; I don't know why they're sticking her in that thing
Salaam. Good 1
Huh, this plot sounds eerily similar to what Mastermind just did to the Hellions.
Oh, f*ck. Nathan Summers, X-man is gone from his grave.
Maybe the Beyonder will return
