I have a ludicrous number of these and I love them. For the price and particularly when compared to a Hero 616 Fingertip Shredder, the 51A just cannot be beaten. It even stands up well against a real Parker 21 or 51.
I already had a few of these (the funky colored ones) but still watched your video, because just like you, I too like watching reviews of stuff I already own, and because I just love listening to you. I'm getting my Christmas shopping done extra early this year, because the EU is about to change to rules on VAT and import tax from all items purchased outside the EU. I just picked up 10 of these for 10.49€, shipping included. They will make for excellent stocking stuffers.
Thank you for the video,I was dead set on a high dollar pen (lamy2000) as my first pen. I'll probably still order it when the price drops again, but these look great to start with. Trying to find the gold plated nib model. Take care.
I bought three of these Jinhao 51As a few years ago and they're some of my best pens. I don't know if I just got lucky but all three have smooth F nibs that write like a dream. I have one dedicated to Diamine Oxblood.
Might be my new EDC pen - or one of them, anyway. The 51A in Ebony (not hooded nib version) I ordered arrived today. I doubt I will stop carrying more than one pen at a time though.
I just saw this review today. I purchased this pen a few years ago. It’s a great pen for the price. Just out of curiosity, I’m not a blue ink fan, but I recently got a bottle of Mont Blanc Royal Blue and I love it. How does the J. Herbin blue compare? Great video, thanks!
Could you please advise how to swap out the nib? I have ordered the pen and it writes very well but I have also ordered a Bobby-bent nib for it which I would like to use in this pen. Unfortunately, I cannot find information on this issue although as far as I know it is more difficult than in the Wing Sung 601,
It's pretty simple. Here's someone else's video showing how to pull the nib. The grip section is glued, so you don't remove the grip, you just pull the nib. I use a wide strip rubber band to protect the nib and pull it with needle nose pliers, taking care not to damage the nib I'm removing. The new nib just needs to be firmly pressed in by hand (I don't recommend pushing on the desk as in the video...could go wrong). ruclips.net/video/9oMBhLs0w9A/видео.html
@@JG3Reviews Thank you very much. Actually, I have seen this video and it is a bit scary to see the tool this guy is using...apparently successfully. I think I will try this Bobby-bent nib on a Wing Sung 601 that I will receive in a short while. The procedure on that pen seeems simpler. Furthermore, I am quite satisfied with how the Jinhao 50A performs with the original fine nib. Pretty smooth, the only concern is it does not keep up well with fast writing, starts skipping. But maybe it is because it is brand new. - Anyway, thank you, I enjoy your reviews very much. Regards from Budapest, Hungary!
My first had very dry nib and was very hard to adjust to write at least decently. And it still has particular sweet spot to really write well. My second, with wooden body, was very good right from the box. And my first was purchased from official pen store, second was from ebay. If you cannot try them, it seems to be a gamble. For like 5 euros, yeah, it isn't that bad, I have Waterman Hemisphere that even after 2 repairs still writes badly, and I had problems with Sailor Lecoule (very dry), which are much more expensive but still, I would go for Cross Bailey Light as EDC fountain pen, they are very good, or Lamy Safari, that takes scratches and falls pretty well.
Unfortunately when I eyedroppered mine it would leak from the threads closer to the nib; I couldn't take the nib end from the screw section so I couldn't seal it shut.
Heard this week at breakfast from another local pastor in Northeast Ohio who is also a fountain pen aficionado: "Why would you want to write down world-changing, life-altering, God-glorifying ideas with a cheap dime store ball point pen?"
i have bought 51A yesterday but nib is medium or broad. on the nib it is written F. i used Parker quink blue but lines r not deep. is it defective and should i replace via Amazon.

Im a minister, too. I have a brown/black resin version with a Bobby Handmade nib. It's very nice.

I’ve got a half-dozen and they’re all good, too. Great pens!

Great reviews! Btw, does this have the same line width as the Jinhao 85? Thanks.
Yes, I believe they use the same nibs.

Hi, thanks for this review! Do you still have this pen? How is it in your experience? Thank you 👍
Yes, and a few more. Still among my favorite EDC pens.
@@JG3Reviews that's good to hear! Thanks for responding :)

how did you fix it? The one I got also came in very dry

Thanks for the heads up. I haven't attempted it with this pen.

If God can speak through a donkey, he can use a ballpoint 🤪
Sir, could you make a review of Jinhao x450 and x750, please?
I do actually have a review of the x450 planned in the next couple weeks.
@@JG3Reviews wow! I am really looking forward to it, Sir.

If you’re not happy with it, definitely follow up. I’ve had good replacement/refund with Amazon in the past.
Thanks for the review. Glad to know that you are a Minister. I thought you should be a Christian. God bless
Will it leak if we use it as eyedropper ?
I haven’t tried it it, but I’d think it could with silicone grease and an o-ring. Some have had trouble with burping.
This pen started to tear apart after only two months of moderate use.
