Fantastic player and one of the most technically gifted footballers I've ever seen. Arsenal in the late 90's and early 2000's were a joy to watch, especially when Bergkamp and Henry were on form...
How good was Dennis Bergkamp? Just constantly repeat that goal against Newcastle. That's how good he was. An absolute privilege to see play - wonderful footballer.
Undoubtedly the best player to wear an Arsenal shirt. And Wrighty and Henry both said that it was a privilege to play with him. Thank you, Dennis, for so many happy memories. It was a privilege to have you at Arsenal.
Just got him in PES yesterday and man is he a legend! So many golden memories from the late 90s and early 2000s. I have never been a big fan of Arsenal but Bergkamp was still something else, a true magician with the ball. And that '98 World Cup, Holland was so fun to watch thanks to him and many many other skilled players.
MARADONA...RONALDO9...BERGKAMP...HENRY...MESSI...I would say Diego the greatest...but the others are in no particular order...these 5 players are the only one's i have ever got up to and clapped..just my opinion that's all
As a Man City Fan myself and someone who has followed football since the late eighties. I must say Dennis.B will go down as one the greatest player i ha e ever seen play the game. Simply sublime to watch and till this i have not seen anyone to compare him to. This guy was in a league of his own.
I remember Dennis in his Ajax times as an unstoppable chipshot machine. Bit as in the likes of Robben with his standard move and goals. This was the Bergkamp goal. Later on in his carreer he became more diverse. Extraordinary player.
Against Newcastle when the pass comes in i get chills, when Bergkamp makes the touch i get emotional. Dont exactly know why but this goal just stirs something up in me. Great player
same... i felt myself becoming emotional watching something of that level of greatness. I've seen it many times, but I don't think it'll ever change. If you are ever in a drag and need something inspiring, something to make you feel. And you need it quickly? watch that goal with some good music under the commentary.
Such an elegant player, even though I wasn't born in that time, the highlight reels and the amount of great players who praise him shows that he was magnificent
I grew up with Bergkamp, I am an Ajax fan and i am Dutch. He was one of the greatest for us Dutch. The goal against Argentina on tthe WC in the US. That era of the Dutch should have earned a WC title. Bergkamp is also afraid of flying. But he was the best creative player I have ever witnessed, the flegmatic moves, the intelligence, the beauty. And, like Cruyff, he made it look simple.
One of purest technicians in the history of the game. Denis needed the English game, its spirit, just like we needed him. He took our game to another level.
The time he played at Arsenal and during the '98 World Cup, he was like an idol for me... and I am german!! :D I'll never forget watching his goal vs. Argentina that World Cup, legendary!!
I watched a video of the Arsenal team of Bergkamp's era last week - a group of players were celebrating a goal and I was astonished at the names involved in the celebration; I'd forgotten what a brilliant group that was.... Bergkamp, Henry, Vieira, Pires, Campbell, Gilberto, Reyes, Cole, Lauren - that's more than a nucleus for a World Cup winning team! Such a huge amount of talent in that team.
The greatest two touches in football history, left foot spin, right foot goal, i was there up the other end with the rest of the Arsenal fans and none of us including me knew how he did what he did. Some so called expert pundits suggested at the time it was luck but now they all agree it was a defining moment of artistry in football. So glad i was there. Thank you Dennis for all the great memories, me and i am sure all Arsenal fans will never ever forget you.
This man was a genius with the ball. The touch of a maestro and so, so intelligent. He scored my favourite goal of all time against Argentina. The control, touch to take it away from the defender and then finally smash it beyond the keeper. Watching that live, he just did it all before your brain could compute what he'd done. And then you were just left flabbergasted. Should also be pointed out, he was terrified of flying and this led to him missing many European nights with Arsenal. A tragedy for any football lover.
what a player. his first touch was the best ive ever seen he could pluck the ball out of mid air and stop it dead still. he was the most comfortable football player on the ball ive ever seen.
Last time I flew in 2001 I was soooooo traumatized that I got thoroughly searched at Tenerife because I was acting so weird but I was just grateful to be on Terra Firma. Had flown 40 times b4 and hated every minute...
I repeat; no player has ever been more skilled and artistic than Iceman. Overview, timing, originality, physics, speed, passing, dribling, headers, longshots - you name it; he had it.
😂😂😂 average number of goals and assists per season, only scored afew great goals, not even arsenals best player, nowhere near the best prem strikers, very overrated.bargain basement zidane.
as a german guy who likes spurs, i still have to say that he's without a doubt one of the greatest and most graceful players in the history of football. everytime he touched the ball something absolutely beautiful happened
His technical ability was way ahead of most in the mid/late 90's. Wonderful player to watch. Right up there with Zola as one of the best overseas players to come to the premier league at the time. I'd have paid to watch both
Way ahead? There were MANY players who were technically gifted in that time frame buddy. If Bergkamp was around today, Id agree. But not back then, too many legends.
Made 'boring' Arsenal into 'swinging' Arsenal, once The Invincibles, looking back it's very sadly too see for such a big club they're way far from that for many years now.
I'm a BIG Bergkamp fan, and I got 6 arsenal shirts with Bergkamp's name, what a LEGEND he was he should have been 3 or 4 times ballon d'or, man I miss him and there is only one Bergkamp.
The most technically gifted play of all time. Is first touch is above anything I’ve ever seen. No player in the history of football has a first touch like Dennis Bergkamp. God
It makes me incredibly proud that we, as such a small country as the Netherlands, have always produced top sportsmen- and women on the highest level. I got interested in football when Bergkamp was already retired, but I always knew who he was for that goal against Argentina. That goal is legendary in my country. You should look up that goal with the Dutch commentator Jack van Gelder. Jack's reaction to that goal says it all, pure insanity, the majesty of Dennis Bergkamp
You should check out your legendary teams of the 1970’s and 80’s! Watching the 74 World Cup made me fall in love with the Dutch team, and Dutch players. I had the pleasure of living in Eindhoven a few years ago and I was a regular at PSV. Fantastic country 😍
Mark Leunenberg you’re welcome. I can only speak from experience I found your country to be a very welcoming and tolerant society. I’m Welsh from North Wales and as Wales football teams never qualified for any major tournaments in 1974 from the start I chose Netherlands as my team quite randomly, I think I liked the orange jerseys(I was 7 years old)and it was a great choice, without doubt the best team to not win the World Cup. They played football then how Barcelona play now but on muddy pitches and vicious tackling was expected. The ‘78 World Cup team was also fantastic, minus Cruyff, and also got to the final but unfortunately again beaten by the host nation! You have some fantastic football to treat yourself to.
@@joejones9838 we really do! Even though we complain a lot about our national teams. But that's what we do, complain. Maybe you experienced that as well 😂
I am german, came to football around '95, so '98 was the first World Cup I watched. I am a fan of the dutch team ever since. Yes, when Germany plays vs. the Netherlands, I cheer for the dutch. I hope you continue to "produce" outstanding football players that are just fun to watch.
While most rave about Bergkamps's goal against Newcastle, his reception, retainment and lobbed delivery against Bayer Leverkusen in Feb 2002 Epitomises Denis's unrivalled mastery more so,his 1999 display at filbert street was sublime, especially the goal from the short corner, his collection in the WC from Frank De Boer's long ball to kill the Argies at 89 mins was pure magic(As an Englishman that one was particularly satisfying, given the opponent😁).,so many moments, so many magic touches. The only player ever that made me shed a tear upon his retirement. We were truly privileged.
Bergkamp was a freak. He had the best first touch of any footballer I've ever seen. The only player that could match him in that department was Zidane.
Bergkamp was so classy, composed and clever. His first touch was one of the best of all time and he struck the ball with so much technique no matter whether it was a pass or shot. Great Player.
@@ppo9200 His stats are actually pretty good. 120 Goals and 102 Assists in 422 Games for Arsenal. You have to also remember that he played in an era with much more dominant Defenders who were allowed to make hard challenges. Even some of R9 stats look weak compared to the top players of today and he was utterly undeniable.
@@-MacCloud- there were players in the prem at the same time that scored/assisted far more per game, including scoring many great goals.I grew up watching that era, great strikers scored better than one every 2 games, bergkamp stats are underwhelming for a great player. He was great but there were multiple better strikers during his years in the prem, nevermind afterwards. In terms of dominant defenders,it is the same now as it was back then, only some top teams had one or two of them, the rest were average or poor. The late 90's and early 00's were nowhere near as physically tough as the 70's and 80's,that is just an excuse. It is usually great dribblers that are most affected by that, bergkamp was not a great dribbler especially compared to giggs, brazilian ronaldo, ronaldino, hazard, neymar, messi, zidane etc. Henry, shearer, fowler, nistelrooy, rooney even an attacking midfielder like lampard ,all easy outdid bergkamp. Ronaldo at madrid, but especially at barca, inter milan and for brazil ,had really amazing stats, usually comparable to the best of the more modern players. Great skill always allows the best players to score/create much more often than bergkamp did,and that is true for all eras.Watch his prem highlights video, its shocking how poor it is for a player so hyped up.
@@ppo9200 You’re missing my point about defenders and I’m not sure if it’s intentional or not. Defending peaked in the late 90’s and 2000’s, before that it was rough and dirty, after that it’s been any touch and the player is fouled. Defending now has changed massively since then and has changed massively before too, but that is utterly beside the point. The defenders today are absolute trash compared to the 2000’s and they aren’t allowed to be defenders anymore. Not just that they aren’t allowed to kick people, the tackle has to be absolutely clean or it’s a foul, back then there was a little bit of give and take, take the ball fuck the player up a little, so long as you aren’t flying in or two footed if you drop the guy it’s fine. These days you can’t touch a player or he dives and gets the whistle. There is a reason why a mediocre striker today can match the goal scoring if the greats of the past and that has been the case for years. Since the 60’s defenders have been getting reeled in decade after decade and we are now at a point of over correcting an issue that did exist at one time. In the 90’s a goal or assist every two games was elite. That’s not to say there weren’t better players because there were, I think Cantona for instance was a player who played that deep-lying forward position better than Bergkamp and the stats follow, but if we have to use Cantona who was a legend to top Bergkamp in that role then Bergkamp was clearly very good. But let’s look at another United player who was elite in his day, Mark Hughes often liked to step off and play around the box instead of in it, his stats are a little worse than Bergkamps stats, he has more highlight reel goals but at the end of the day a Goal is a Goal. You don’t get two points for a rocket. So imo Bergkamp sits somewhere between those two players. Which makes him Elite. Add to that how technical he was and the ease with which he controlled and manipulated the football, he can serve as an example to train towards in that regard. I’m not telling you Bergkamp Is the GOAT, so relax. I’m just telling you that he was an elite player in his prime who played with excellent style and technique. You can’t argue me out of that because I already know I’m right by my standards and by the tests I use to determine the quality of a footballer now and then.
Remember he got substituted due to injury and he received a standing ovation from the city fans. Think only zola and Henry ever appreciated the same a class player.
@@IJA1977 Pires is probably the most underrated Premier League player ever. Saw him many times at the old Highbury. The partnership with Henry was sublime.

That goal against Newcastle can never be beaten in my eyes, sublime touch and turn
His goal against the Argies in the last minute of a world cup game wasn't far behind it.
Great goal but so overrated lol
Almost in tears seeing how greatness visited my beloved Arsenal back then.
We were lucky to get to watch them every week. I'd start watching football again if Pires, Henry + Bergkamp came back
I don’t like Arsenal, I’m not Dutch, but Dennis Bergkamp will always be one of my favourite ever players. A genius, years ahead of his time. One of the best I’ve ever seen in the Premier League
I am Dutch and I never understood why we were only talking van Basten and Gullit. Bergkamp was my favorite player. Such an elgant player.
Not close to being one of the best prem strikers,he was great though
chelsea fans since 1997 here... he is one of the most skillful player in EPL i've ever seen, if not the most skillful... and he is a player people can't hate even for rival team fans...
Fantastic player and one of the most technically gifted footballers I've ever seen. Arsenal in the late 90's and early 2000's were a joy to watch, especially when Bergkamp and Henry were on form...
As a kid from Amsterdam he was my hero and inspiration. Unbelievably talented and gifted.
He's the reason I fell in love with Arsenal as a young boy
The guy is a genius. His arrival at Arsenal was the beginning of our resurgence
How good was Dennis Bergkamp? Just constantly repeat that goal against Newcastle. That's how good he was. An absolute privilege to see play - wonderful footballer.
This channel is gonna grow so much. Content is really well made.
ONE OF THE MOST UNDERRATED PLAYERS!
a lot of love and respect from Brazil
Antony, Neres, Ajax means Ajax go for gold en veel doelpunten!! haha Maaaask
So overrated😂
Undoubtedly the best player to wear an Arsenal shirt. And Wrighty and Henry both said that it was a privilege to play with him. Thank you, Dennis, for so many happy memories. It was a privilege to have you at Arsenal.
He was obviously nowhere near as good as henry.
Quite simply the greatest player to ever play for ARSENAL.
AMEN! I agree!
Me three
Henry ofcourse.
Totally agree. Does not get the applaud and accolades he deserves.
Short, interesting, entertaining, informative, quality videos. More grease to your elbows.
Thanks 👍
@@goat8078 bergkamp just 91 is embarrassing
Bergkamp and Zidane are the only players that were so special, they can't be recreated in a video game. You just can't play like them
Not to sure about that one bergkamp is unbelievable on new pes21 his rating is 99 out of 100 and he move exactly like he did in real life

As a Man City Fan myself and someone who has followed football since the late eighties. I must say Dennis.B will go down as one the greatest player i ha e ever seen play the game. Simply sublime to watch and till this i have not seen anyone to compare him to. This guy was in a league of his own.
Easily one of the best of all times, and doesn't get as much respect as he should. Truly an unreal player.
He is actually overrated and not close to being one of the very best prem players.
@@ppo9200 you’re clearly slow
The greatest footballer I’ve ever seen live.
He was an absolute genius.
That is art for you, sir.
Bergkamp 1998 was art personified. The goal vs Argentina is a thing of beauty
A true magician. Elegance, technique and vision; a truly magnificent player who was beautiful to watch. From a United fan of 39 years.
Nowhere near as skillful as zidane, ronaldinho etc
Easily the classiest player to have ever played in the premier league.
@RShCovers 😂😂😂😂
@RShCovers Good luck typing "Paul Scholes" faster than he slides into players without hitting the ball.
@RShCovers there is nothing classy about scholes
Henry

Easily the most enjoyable player to watch. The complete player. He made it look an art. He was just so so good
My all time favorite... He was so good and made others around him in the field (look) even better!
My favorite player of all time. The ice man, the non-flying Dutchman
The floating Dutchman.
He actually hated flying(I.e. in an aeroplane) so he is literally a non flying 😁
Kakivi Yepthomi his fear of flying screwed us several times in Europe...
THAT was the joke from Chris, my friend...
Last time I flew in 2001 I was soooooo traumatized that I got thoroughly searched at Tenerife because I was acting so weird but I was just grateful to be on Terra Firma. Had flown 40 times b4 and hated every minute...
I'm a United fan but Bergkamp was just pure class back then 👏
Long story short he was a beast
I repeat; no player has ever been more skilled and artistic than Iceman.
Overview, timing, originality, physics, speed, passing, dribling, headers, longshots - you name it; he had it.
😂😂😂 average number of goals and assists per season, only scored afew great goals, not even arsenals best player, nowhere near the best prem strikers, very overrated.bargain basement zidane.
Zidane comes close but it’s a debate but all the insults are untrue
as a german guy who likes spurs, i still have to say that he's without a doubt one of the greatest and most graceful players in the history of football. everytime he touched the ball something absolutely beautiful happened
So overrated😂
Every goal, movement and passing is art. There wasn't a single goal without class.
Bergkamp is the definition of class. One of my favourite footballers ever.
He was absolutely brilliant!!
Bergkamp and zola are nowhere near the best ever in the prem
You couldn‘t put it in words, just how good Dennis was. He was a gem.
Bergkamp and Henry, the deadliest partnership the premier league has ever seen.

God
Cruijff had!!
Maradona
Ronaldinho?
Complete legend, how did he not win Ballon D’or? Thank for choosing and staying loyal to the gunners. Favourite player of all time! 👍
The goal he scored against Argentina in the World cup, is still one of the best goals ever. Great great player.
@@joejones9838 thank you so much! I will check those teams out. I'm really glad to hear you liked it here! Where are you from?
Dennis Bergkamp on his day??
He's totally unplayable.......
Just look at his Bergkamp flick, that's a total killer
Bergkamp and Henry left Arsenal in close succession , they were never the same afterwards. I miss them both !
I was on the phone with my father when Bergkamp scored against Argentina, will never forget this moment.
He has the best highlight videos of any player, scored so many bangers!
I get shivers down my spine every time I watch that goal against Newcastle. Hands down the best goal I've ever seen.
Newcastle ;p
@@dimrrider9133 haha, thanks, I must have been drunk when I wrote this! Still love the goal though!
BERGKAMP 10 was the best at Arsenal still my favourite to this day.
He did things other players couldn't imagine. He was the first of the mega players to come to us and drew others after him.
There have been so many players that were better than bergkamp, and so many goals that were better than those you mentioned.
That goal against Newcastle I don't think anyone will be able to replicate. That was a once in a lifetime goal.
Bergkamp was a freak. He had the best first touch of any footballer I've ever seen. The only player that could match him in that department was Zidane.
And Berbatov
Question: How Good was Dennis Bergkamp actually?
Answer: Yes
Bergkamp was so classy, composed and clever. His first touch was one of the best of all time and he struck the ball with so much technique no matter whether it was a pass or shot. Great Player.
Yet he never scored or created thst much per season,he also didnot score that many great goals.Far more style than substance imo.
In terms of dominant defenders,it is the same now as it was back then, only some
top teams had one or two of them, the rest were average or poor.
Been a Manu fan over 25 years. My God do I miss watching Bergkamp play. Wish he signed for Manu instead of Arsenal. How did we miss him?
It was a pleasure to watch him play live in the WC 94 round of 16
He was many levels above Ozil...he’s the most technical and intelligent player Arsenal very had
I am mystified how ozil even gets mentioned in the same sentence by Arsenal fans.
@@IJA1977 Pires is probably the most underrated Premier League player ever. Saw him many times at the old Highbury. The partnership with Henry was sublime.
@@IJA1977 Yeah FL8 was such a tricky player. Always popped up and made the runs which undid defences. Agree about Mr Arsenal. He was a one off. SAF bid for him 6 times but he stayed...that says a lot.
