  • I thought I would take the chance and order a soldering/rework station directly from China. I am glad I did. This station is the 853D and includes a 15 VDC power supply as well as a Voltmeter. Not bad for around $75 USD.

    I just purchased this and I mostly like it. Heats up fast and maintains temperature.
    A couple of issues that aren't deal breakers.
    1. It doesn't allow you to measure negative voltage if you have your leads reversed.
    2. When the heat gun is in use, it rapidly turns the heating coil on and off to maintain temperature and this causes my work light to flicker just a bit.
    3. It did not come with the nuts for the screws on the heat gun tips.
    4. The leads did not fit into the ports for the power supply until I cut off the shrouds around the lead tips.
    For the money, it is a great purchase.

    Got mine this week and if you have only used regular irons, you will love this! Rapid heat up on both irons. However, when using the air gun don't suddenly turn it off. When placed back in the cradle it continues to blow air until the temp hits room temp. This prolongs the systems life. The shrouds still need to be cut off to insert into the post (with nut on). They must have bulk produced this at some point and have a huge warehouse full.

    I have the exact same one. Some modifications I have made to mine was install the power switch on to the front, put a connector on the hot air gun, and installed an outlet for my home made solder exaust fan to automatically turn on when one turns on the soldering iron. When I got this unit though, it released the magic smoke upon turning it on, so I got a refund and got to keep the device. Of course I repaired it and modified it and love it!

      HI can you tell me what you repaired.. I also got white smoke coming out of the air heating wand, unfortunately I waited to long to try out the machine so no refund available.

  • @Charkel

    The cooldown is a function to slowly cool down chips because if they cool down too fast they could break. That's why it keeps blowing air and cooling down one degree at a time. It's a rework station not a heatgun....

    That power supply works great for electrolysis, by the way. It's nice to not have to worry about a battery. The temperatures are in Celcius. 480° C is the max temperature for both the hot air wand as well as the soldering iron which is more than you would possibly need for the soldering of electronics.

    I bought the same station and had the same problem with the test leads. What I did was used my exacto knife to cut off some of the plastic on the end of the L shaped plugs. The material is soft and is easily removed giving you a good fit. One other thing I found is don't use the cheap solder that came with the package. It will not give you a good solder joint. Other than that I am happy with the performance.

    I just received the same model ,however mine does not have a toggle switch, for test mode and dc voltage .rather it has a single button, Re test leads supplied ,they actually do fit ,you ether have to remove the Knobs on the banana socket ,or alternatively cut the shroud around the test lead off(plug end oviously( ,i contacted the seller when i discovered the same issue and he advised that this was deliberate if the test leads where to be permanently connected to the unit the shroud covers the exposed terminal,if used on a Adhock basis then remove the shroud .it is quite tight to push in at first as its new but they will fit

    Hi I had mine delivered last week 2 days later the air gun stopped working in the middle of a surface mount job. I found during testing that there was mains power on the element wires with the switch for the air gun turned off, the earth connection was a spot welded stainless steel conductor and had failed at the nozzle end the thing that really concerned me is the heat gun element was faulty and making contact with the now not earthed nozzle. This fault made the metal nozzle live, I will need to investigate further to find out if this is a design issue or faulty workmanship please exercise caution when working on or with this device.

    • @MrBatbuddy

      Yes, The supply voltage is what the main input power is which in the USA is 120 Volts AC. The power supply is a transformer built into the unit that supplies regulated DC power from15 volts down to 0 volts

    thanks for the video. What is the recommended temperature, using the heatgun, to remove a smd chip from a laptop motherboard

    • @MrBatbuddy
      @MrBatbuddy  5 лет назад

      Hmm not sure about that. If I had to guess, I would think 300 degrees Celsius, however you could check the data sheet for the chip and see what it is rated to handle. Of course if the chip is already damaged then overheating it shouldn't be an issue but installing the new chip you should use a soldering iron instead of the heat gun perhaps. There are attachment tips for the heat gun that Focus the heat only on the chip you're working on so that you don't damage nearby components

    • @NobodyNowhereKnowhow
      @NobodyNowhereKnowhow 4 года назад

      The type of solder that was used is also pretty critical in the removal. If the old typical 60/40 tin/lead solder was used 183°C is about the right temp so 200°C should be more than enough, providing you also use plenty of flux, however most electronics are using lead free solder anymore, so the temp is usually higher. The key is finding a temp that can quickly cause the solder to flow, while not building up a bunch of heat in the chip. It’s kinda a delicate balance, but you should probably be able to find what kind of solder is used on the board and it’s optimum flowing temp online if you do a search or two. Good luck!
