Interestingly, Marisa Tomei's uncle was a judge in Brooklyn NY. I was an assistant DA in Brooklyn at the time, and was before Judge Tomei many times. He would go on and on about Marissa quite often. Then, one day, I was in his courtroom, waiting for him to take the bench when his clerk told me the judge wanted to see me in his chambers. I went back to his office behind the courtroom. Judge Tomei was sitting at his desk, and he looked up and said, "ADA D_____, I'd like you to meet my niece, Marissa", and he gestured towards the couch in his office, usually piled with briefs and casebooks, but sitting on a hastily cleared section sat Ms. Tomei. She stood up and extended her hand. She was even more gorgeous in person than on the screen. I stammered a greeting, at which she said that her uncle said I was one "of the best attorneys he'd ever had before him" (a claim I sincerely doubted), to which I again stammered an unintelligible response, finally saying, "well, as you've probably figured by now, it's because I'm so eloquent..." She graciously laughed at my lame attempt at humor. And explained that she had been cast in a movie about a lawyer and a criminal trial. Judge Tomei said that she would like to watch a real trial, and asked if I had any cases ready to go. Again I was still so struck by her beauty and gentle demeanor, I made a non committal word salad, eventually promising to take a look at the calendar to see which of my cases was trial ready. Eventually, I had a robbery case in which the victim had been shot and robbed, and as the hearings were completed, it was just waiting for jury selection. Ms Tomei sat through the entire trial (it only lasted four days, including jury selection). After each day, she would sit at the prosecutor's table with me and go over the days proceeding. She was particularly interested in witness examination. As many of you may recall, her character testified in the trial. One of the things i told her that I used to tell my witnesses during prep was that when they were answering my questions, do NOT look at me, but, instead, direct your answers to the jury. I don't know if it was because of my advice, but I noticed that her character in My Cousin Vinny did that, as well. She sent me a thank you note for my time. Much to my dismay, I lost the note, though I think someone in my office may have swiped it. After she won the Academy Award, Judge Tomei went on and on about for as long as I was before him, and long after that, as well. I never saw her again at the courthouse though I have fond memories of my brief brush with Hollywood fame!
This was a nice read. I have no doubt she took your words of advice and decided to follow it. You indirectly led to one of the best films of my childhood, and I thank you. Destiny is a funny thing.
@@limaalphacharlie what a kind thing to say. And while I appreciate your thanks, I think it's fair to say that the actress carried the bulk of the performance, then the director, then the writer, then the cinematographer, then the editor, then the lighting director, then the sound designers, then the wardrobe folks, then hair and makeup, then the Foley artists, then the grips, then the best boy, then the guy who marks the scene and take, then the film processor, then the caterers, then the security guards, then the studio parking lot attendant, and then...me. By my calculation, I'd say I'm 1/10000 of 1% responsible for the success of the film. And to think ...I wasn't even nominated for a crappy Golden Globe....*sigh*...
Great share! What a great story! My Cousin Vinny is one film I can watch again and again. Ms. Tomei's performance in this film totally deserved the Oscar.
People tend to overlook comedies or comedic parts when it comes to awards; they always look at dramas, however comedy is one of the hardest things to do and any character actor will tell you that. This is why most people say Marisa Tomei and Whoopi Goldberg were not deserving of their Oscars. Look at the timing, the facial expressions, the mood changes and the accent and you will be able to see she was more than deserving of this win; hence the reason why the Academy chose a practically unknown actress to win this instead of other famous actresses. Once they get it right, let’s not blame them; otherwise ask Glenn Close.
Are you kidding me? The other nominees although more experienced than Marissa gave lackluster performances than her... she outperformed and outshone them all...
I saw Marisa play Solome and dance on stage for a reading, not a full play, but the dance was part of it. She did a full split and she's a talented dancer.
I watched this movie for the first time the other day, I always see it but never watch it either on TV or in a DVD collection. I watch a lot of movies to lol
Oh, I miss the days when SO many ‘ Italians ‘ used to dress like that ! Mr & my Greek mates used to scrimp & save to buy a shirt, a pair of shoes, some pants,..ANYTHING that resembled what they wore !
I will never forget the feet stomping. I had a huge crush on Marissa in the early 90's.
She could make gay guys straight and straight girls gay
She had cool ass scenes. The deer and his pants.
I still do!
I think a few of us still do including the Is guyo about me
I still do, WDYM?
Absolutely love this movie. With what she does in it I am not surprised she got an Oscar

@@JCDofNYCA delightful window into an actress I'm fond of, how she prepped for Cousin Vinny. Your mentoring clearly paid off, Mr. Modest. 👏🎭
I love how he looks at her foot while she's stomping and then looks back up so calmly before he goes off. One of the best movies ever.
Staring at the foot stomp was hilarious!
She looked stunning in that outfit
Oh ya
God, she looked good in that outfit. Oh, the days of our youth.
Very beautiful
The days of our yutes 😂
She’s still fine. Or she was in those spider man movies that came out not that long ago.
@@Thor-Orion She still looks good for her age, but nobody looks better after 30 years.
@@brndnwilks yeah, for sure. But I’m only 33 years old and I’d still probably hit it.
Didn't know she won an oscar and I just saw the movie. She's fantastic in this part, especially in the courtroom. Well deserved I must say.
She was great, she deserved that award. ❤
Gorgeous lady 😍😍😍
She deserved that Oscar.

Perhaps the laws of physics cease to exist on your stove." "I'm finished with this guy."😂😅😂😅
Best movie ever 👍

She could be Better whithout...
It's hard to believe Joe Pesci was practically 50 years old in this movie - nearly 20 years older than Marisa Tomei.
Iconic scene from an iconic film.
She is so attractive
Yesss! This month (Aug) My Cousin Vinny is free on Tubi!! Been waiting for this.
She played a terrific part in that movie❤ and what a figure.

I love how she is still an active actress. 😊
Love her outfit ❤
I fell in love with her in this movie a long time ago
I loved seeing her again as Dorothy’s Sister-in-law on The Golden Girls. ❤
She's one of the prettiest women that God ever made dude please marry the girl
She was a car geek and helped him in court
"my biological clock is ticking like this" was an iconic line in the 90s😅
What a beautiful girl
The ultimate babe 😂
So fabulous !
She was a Bad Ass
Really like the pattern of her outfit. Pretty.
I watched this movie for the first time the other day, I always see it but never watch it either on TV or in a DVD collection. I watch a lot of movies to lol
What a lucky outfit, never jealous of an inanimate object before.
She still looks remarkable for her age.

I met her at MegaCon
I was looking at her and didn't really think she was Marisa Tomei
Classic moment i love this movie i was in high school
Hot Aunt May indeed! Marisa is timeless
That's superior acting but why does she look at least 20 years younger than her boyfriend? That's icky
21 years younger.
My stepdad looks EXACTLY like Joe Pesci , it's hard to watch this movie because I think it's George 🤣🤣🤣💕🤣💕🤣💕🤣
Imagine George Costanza kissed her.
Joey P…!!!
Not many people can pull of that suit!!

I always confuse Marissa Tomei wit Tracy Kolis
Tick, tick, tick her biological clock
thanks for not putting the movie name that she won Oscar for Genius!!! 🤦♂️
I still do have a huge crash on this broad. She broke my heart on the movie WHAT DO WOMAN WANT famous words of Sigmund Freud
Funny, Marisa Tomei hates marriage and havin children
She's so wrong- she did help! And how!
