The brazilians run this 8v VW engine up to 65psi 1300whp 9k RPM for decades now. It's very popular engine down there. The fastest they had run was 6.8s 1/4 mile on the RWD Chevette H pattern. I do have Gti 1.8T 20v mk4 pushing 620whp 50psi and then swapped to a small turbo for road race. Talk to with the guys at Fueltech Anderson and Luiz they are expert on this type of engine.

This brings back some memories....... I've still got my old Nub works ABA Sri sitting on the shelf from my corrado. It did 419whp back in the day and I had to cheat with spray to break 400 😆 600+ was unfathomable from a 8v back then. But don't let that fool you because 250 to 300 from a 8v VW is one of the best 4cyl combos for street fun ever. I eventually swapped to a 16v head and made a lot more power. But honestly it's never been as fun to drive as when it was the 8v head.
@@conorjamesthomson it used a 2l ABA obd1 block with the early forged crank, pauter rods,1.8 16v head with some minor porting, I ran 8v aba pistols first but cr was around 8 to 1 so had custom ones done but I think 2l 16v but don't hold me too it because it's been like 15 years. The rest of the motor needed a 2l 16v passat intermediate shaft and oil pump.16v timing belt gears and iirc about 5mm milled off the 2l 8v aba crank gear because the 16v timing belt/gears are wider than the 8v t belt stuff. So you need to mill the pulley to make the accessories line up. I also had to modify the 8v distributor and use the 16v one on the head instead of block. I gutted the 8v dizzy putting the trigger window and sensor into into the 16v distributor and then I think I used the empty 8v dizzy in the block. But again it's been years. But that's essentially the cliff notes on using factory VW parts. At one time BBM Motorsports sold some aftermarket parts to do it too. But VW motors up to the 20v are like Legos and I also ran a 2l ABA 8v block with the 20v head in my old Audi B5. That thing ran mid tens in full street trim and put 538 to all 4 wheels running out of turbo. It was the same bottom end with schrick cams, mahle pistons , Tial v banded 35r Garrett and a pag parts v banded manifold.
I also did a 8v with carbs and a little nitro back in the day too 😆 we never dynod that because it was all spare parts. But going by weight and trap speed it was getting close to 180-200hp before going boom 😆
