  • Game Of Thrones star Emilia Clarke has revealed how she thought she was going to die after suffering a bleed on the brain.
The actress has been made an MBE for setting up a charity to help others with similar conditions.
The 37-year-old and her mother Jenny have both been recognised in the New Year Honours for their work setting up the brain injury charity SameYou.
The actress said she still briefly feels as though she is having another brain haemorrhage every time she gets a headache, and described how not being able to speak after surgery made her think “let this end now”.

Jennifer and her late husband created a truly beautiful and talented person. I'm autistic and I will always admire Emilia Clarke for her playing Daenerys Targaryen and Sarah Connor and for being a survivor and helping raise awareness for people who have suffered from brain injuries and have disabilities and both Emilia and Jennifer deserve to win the MBE for their dedication and their foundation of SameYou. Congratulations to them both! ❤

I had/have (in remission now) autoimmune encephalitis. It causes you to fight for consciousness and at the same time it feels like your brain is on fire. I spend eleven months bedridden without proper treatment because doctors wrote it off as a headache or depression or a women b*tching when it was really nothing. I actually had a doctor tell my mom and I that I should go out and have fun, get my hair done. I was drooling with my head back as he suggested this approach. Another doctor at an LA big hospital explained that the brain can't feel pain so there was no way I was in pain. Anyway, by accident I found a doctor who gave me high dose steriods that saved my life but then I got Cushings from the prolonged steroids and had to learn to walk again. Anyway, I really related when she said she just kept repeating her own name in her head. I did that as I fought to hold on to self. Glad we both made it out alive.

I’ve watched a lot of interviews of Emilia talking about her aneurysm and how she recited lines from GOT as a way to stay conscious, and I honestly think that was the reason she didn’t lose her ability to speak.
A lot of times when people suffer from an aneurysm, they just shut down and let themselves go unconscious but the fact that Emilia fought to stay awake is probably what hotwired her brain to use a different part that wasn’t damaged.
