Started a low buy year, 2 weeks in I binged, ended up going on a $700 shopping spree. This made me realize how hyper-focused I was on acquiring new things. So far doing much better in Feb!
It is so hard with so many things advertised to us! When I get the urge to buy something I know I don't need, I try to think of something I'm holding out for that I want more (like my first home). It helps lol.
Great list of tips! In my everyday life, I follow the idea of making a "things I didn't buy in 2024" list, where I write down the things I wanted to buy but decided not to because I didn't need the item at the moment. Analyzing this list over time shows me that I really did not need any of these things, that I could do without them, and that buying them would just be an unnecessary expense.
I set the goal at the beginning of the year to do atleast 6 months of No-Buy throughout the year of 2024. I did a successful No-Buy month last summer and my finances DRASTICALLY improved. I'm an emotional shopper and really use shopping as a coping mechanism. I failed my No-Buy attempts for January and February but learned that having 29 days of No-Buying is better than 0. I'm feeling focused for March and am excited to see that generationally we're trying to take back our agency over WORTH, the value of our time and truly what the value of money is.

That’s an awesome idea! I should start now and see how long the list gets by the end of the year.
This is a really great idea! Thanks for sharing
