I had no idea they sold them individually. I thought I needed to replace the whole panel, so I left it go. Thank you! Great repair!

I am moving my entire fence back approximately 10 feet after a survey revealed we have more space behind it that was not originally used. More yard space is a plus. There's going to be some gaps at the bottom of the new fence if I use the existing panels as is. I like the idea of using the 2x4s for the few areas that were causing me a concern!

With the cement poured in, is there any additional steps for that? I would have assumed the cement got poured in wet.
Hey David ! Most people do, I pour mine in dry and throw a little half a bucket of water on top, then the concrete will do the rest, draw the moisture in from the earth and it will harden. You got this
What do you do after putting in the dry cement? Just add water? (I always thought you mixed first, then poured) Thank you
hey haddy! you can wet it a little if you want but the moisture from the ground draws and sets the concrete...time saving tip.. i lie to splash the empty hole then toss in a little more after..

I have a burned panel in my fence, I was told at the store when picking out the boards it was best to put up the new boards while freshly treated to keep them from warping and clothes together to help with shrinkage and I was given 2.5 in screws so I hope that works
Hey AJ. That sounds good but 2 1/2 screws if you are putting pickets on will go through and poke out the other side. I usually put pickets on with one and a half. I hope this helps

You never showed... did you add water to the concrete at all, or is it just filling in?
hey AC!.. i like to splash the hole just to wet it, then maybe toss in a little bit more after its in..the moisture from the ground hardens the concrete.. knowing what corners to cut saves the day!

I hope this isnt a stupid question but you just put dry concrete in there? Is it pre mixed or is it grinded up co concrete?
Hey white. The concrete will absorb the moisture from the ground and Harden without mixing it.
How do you handle replacing wooden fence slats that are not standard? I have some I'm trying to replace that are 5 3/16 wide dog-eared and cannot find anyone that carries those,
Great question Jason… Sometimes you need to fabricate them. I hope this helps.

Hey Ed. Depends on where you are. 24” was always the standard for me but were in the south. Not much ice happening here. You might check your local codes to be sure.

I am attempting to repair my broken pickets. What type of screwdriver are you using? I don't think mine is strong enough 😭 I thought a Craftsman V20 would work ok but the screws are not going through. Thanks for posting a great video!

What about the concrete? Does it need to dry and harden before burying or afterwards do we just leave it alone to harden?

I have a neighbor with a not right fence this style that partitions my yard, so that led me here. Is there something I can do on my side? It looks like they have half a picket between two pickets, and one has become separated from the half picket. Hard to explain without a photo. Dreading talking to them because it's so half assed in the first place...
Hey end. You could always throw a panel on your side if the posts are good but it may be a little tacky in most cases. It depends on how bad you want to look at a nice fence. I hope this helps

Hey Daniel with the post in concrete and screws probably looking at about 50 bucks material I probably charged 350 but you gotta get rid of the debris afterwards

You would need to access both sides of the fence

Hi nightshade. Definitely screws used to secure the panels but the pickets are nailed at the factory so duplicating that is ideal. You could use short screws if you would like but I don’t think I had any that day. Thanks for commenting

@DUSTIN hI, Thanks for the Fense video. i Just bought the house i was renting for a few years. The owners did not want to do much repairs. The fense is in a bad shape. It looks like they just did quick fixes but notthing permiant. So with that in mind. I know i need to replace the fense. But tod that i want to do it a section at at ime. What do i use to determine what size post should i use. and when you did the concrete did you use ? and waht did you do once you poured the cement in to the hole.
Hey Shane. Congratulations on buying the house. A 6 foot tall fence should have 6 feet of post sticking out of the ground. So a typical 6 foot fence would have an 8 foot post with 2 feet in the ground. When you pour the concrete you just wet the hole little bit , pour in the powdered concrete and then backfill it with dirt. You got this

Totally useless. He is standing outside the fence but that is not his property. How can you do repairs from the inside side of the fence. I can't go on my neighbor's property that I have fenced off.

I have a question about the concrete used. Why pour just dry concrete mix in the hole? Does it not need to mixed first?
Excellent question Elizabeth . This one was in Virginia Beach. The concrete draws the moisture from the ground, and it will harden it without you mixing it.

@@homemend Thanks Dustin, much appreciated. I found one at Lowes for $15 so I'll grab that today. I was quoted $250 to replace a single picket (can't make this stuff up). Came across this video and it seemed pretty straight forward. I was able to source a single pre-stained picket at my local fence company (Forney Fence Co.) for a whopping $3!!!

solid work brother and it looks kick ass! At :30 in, you can see the tops of the two segments of the fence are at different levels. At the end of the clip, it looks like you fixed that and the tops are all even. How in the world did you raise the 'lower' segment of the fence? I'm picturing either moving each picket up or moving the entire segment up by moving the stringers up. Keep up the awesome work man, I really enjoy the vids!
hey JP...good eye..this was a sloppy previous install and the panels were uneven....they had a picket horizontal along the ground to cover the bottom..just silly looking...the ground was sloped a bit so i installed a treated 2x4 across the bottom... then reinstalled the panel..
