I lived there at the time.
The government was dumb; the people uninformed and the Argentine army sacrificed.

Belgrano was planning a pincer movement with the the veinticinco de mayo on the task force. Belgrano sinking was therefore legitimate.

The Argentines should actually be greatfull the Americans did not officially intervene in the conflict and attack them directly. The fact that United States would covertly support the British and going through all that sharade of hiding their actions, should be seen in strange way a little admiration they have for Argentina. If the Britts were fighting allot of Arab or Oriental nations the American would be right beside them on the battle field.

nasib kahie: Well America did it's part in trying to settle the matter but when the Russians informed the Argentinians where a British destroyer was located which got it torpedoed, President Reagan immediately shook his finger at the Russians going UH UH!!!...UH UH!! DO NOT INTERFERE!!!......Which was good of him.

@@MegaJohny56 Who said anything about thre Russians supporting an Argentine junta? All I remember is when it came over the news the Russians informed the Argentine navy of a British ships location. And when that happened, President Reagan gave the Russians a warning not to interfere.

@@unhooked25 isn't giving the Argentineans information about the locations of enemy ships support? I think it would be termed as support any where in the world. I wonder why the Russians did that. Maybe it was a false report meant to justify why the Americans ignored the Monroe doctrine and supported imperialist incursion into the Americas. Alexander Haig for sure was trying to support the Argentinians though he said different later on

@@MegaJohny56 No it was not a false report it was on the news and why would the Russians do that? Don't forget that was during the cold war between what was then the Soviet Union and the west. Because the British were a part of Nato And British prime minister Margaret Thatcher was in lock step with President Reagan.

This should have been a history lesson for the Arabs, in particularly Iraqi's and Palestinians. Partialiaty is not in the American Dna or psychi. They will pretend to be fair and just becuase end of the day this is politics. American see the world as black/white and good/evil. So it is already determined who they will support in the conflict. You can say in this instance its sort of tribal. They cannot be an honest broker in the middle east peace process, its already decided that no matter what they will support one side over the other. Jewish Jared Kushner as mediator between the Jews and the Arabs, you gotta be kidding me.
