  • The Bassmaster Elite Series season started off on Toledo Bend for the 2024 season. Jeff "Gussy" Gustafson kicked off the year on the right note with a 24th place finish. All of Gussy's fish were caught on a Northland Fishing Tackle Smeltinator Jig and a 4" minnow bait.

I'm pretty sure you caught them with Livescope while using the Smeltinator. Makes for a pretty boring tournament. Can't win with traditional methods anymore. Everyone uses the same basic tools (FFS and a spinning rod) and it's just a matter of who catches the bigger fish. Blah, blah, blah!

Thanks for the message! Gussy has been winning tournaments with the Smeltinator Jig for over 15 years, moping long before FFS, including at the Bassmaster Elite on the Tennessee River! Fish on!

No argument there, he continues to be a great angler. Just sad what FFS has done to "professional" angling and he's been forced into using it so he can compete. It used to be great when pros could compete using dozens of techniques not 2 or 3 like now. Boring to watch.
