I really appreciate what you're doing with your fair isle sweater. I think a lot of people in this space are not as adventurous and it's not that difficult. Plus it's turning out sooo good.
I get what you mean about local wool. I am originally from Canada and I always found it so hard to find local stuff (maybe because this was years ago before the knitting boom). Now I live in the UK and I have a yarn guy that I just text if I want some farm yarn and he has different types of sheep and I get like a kilo of wool for like 15 pounds.
That is literally so cool! I am jealous 🙃 I hope the North American wool industry continues to grow so maybe we can reach a point where we have local wool readily available too
i think your fair isle sweater looks soo more interesting and coherent than the original inspo! incredible dedication with all the alts too 👊👊 also the cooone is so cute 😭😭
At this point, with so many mods on your orkney you can rename it because that is your own thing now😂😂 And the cone definitely looks like a heavy DK/worsted to me!
your orkney cardigan is just a feat of determination and a marvel of knitting. its just incredible how you managed to essentially freehand that sweater. so so cool
I hope you and your cone will be very happy together 😆 Good luck on finishing your Rhinebeck sweater, it looks amazing already! Very well done and totally unique.
i really hope that i can get to rhinebeck next year! unfortunately this year it was the same weekend as new york comic con and i was already locked in to attending the con but im praying they're on separate weekends next year. i'm currently 3 days into crocheting a 6-day superstar blanket out of stash yarn :3
Re: yarn cone What I would do to determine the yardage is measure out 10 yards of the fiber back and forth on a yardstick. Weigh the 10 yard ball. Divide this number by 10 to get the weight of a single yard. Weigh the cone, subtract 20 grams for the cardboard (this is the average weight of a yarn cone). Take this number and divide it by the weight of a yard. That should give a good approximation of the total yardage. :) also doesn't look like fingering at all to me lol I'd be swatching
Omg!! This all makes so much sense-- thank you so much. And yeah, the more I look at it, the more I really don't think it is fingering either. I am guessing I misheard or pointed to the wrong yarn when asking or something lol. I'm gonna try measuring with WPI and then swatching with a few needle sizes.
Your orkney sweater was so beautiful! I saw you wearing it walking into rhinebeck as I was leaving. I considered saying hi but my fiance and I were so tired 😅 but it with your pink dress was such a cute outfit! Oh my gosh! I bought the same undyed dark brown yarn from Swayze Inn farm at NJ fiber! Im using mine to make a “stoneware” version of the porcelain sweater.
Aww I can totally relate-- by the time I was leaving, I was bone tired too 🥲 I hope you had a good time at Rhinebeck! And yay to yarn twinning! That sounds like a beautiful project idea. Did you pick up the cream or lighter grey to use as the contrast color?
@@whatsmilimaking I got a separate cream at a thrift store I happened upon. I didnt have a project in mind when I got the swayze inn yarn, but it popped into my head when I saw a cream later!
send a message to the cone producers to see if they can send you the weight of the cardboard cone as a favor. then rest that to the weight of your cone.

Thank you! It has been a fun adventure and experimentation in color and sweater construction and everything else that goes into fair isle knitting 🧶
I’m obsessed with your color choices! You’ve got that eye girl!
Aww thank you 🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽

Thank you!! I am really happy with the way it turned out. Also glad I am not the only one who thinks yarn is cuter in a cone 🥹
Your Norfolk Sweater and Orkney Cardigan are so pretty! 💗🧶
Thank you! ☺️

It is basically like a frankenstein of 4 different sweaters (+ freehanded sleeves and buttonband lol) 😆

I think there was some agent of chaos on my shoulder who helped make it happen 😂

Thank you!! I foresee a bright future for me and my cone 😂
Love your cardigan 9! Making me want one 😊
I've been wearing it whenever it's cool enough! Highly recommend 😌

Loving the yellow cardi😍
The texture pattern + yellow combo is so cute, if I do say so myself 🤭
"Cor-ru-gate-ed" ribbing 😊 like the cardboard or iron
Loving the psychedelic fair isle 😁
Ok now that I see it phonetically, I get it 😂 thank you!
OBSESSED with your yellow test knit call me easily influenced:))
Yesss I wanna see more knitters making with butter yellow !! 🧈

@@ClayCraftCoffee Nice find! They'll make for a lovely porcelain sweater 🥰
I love the Brusca yarn, I’ve started using it and I’m making some balaclavas and I want to make a pelica out of it too 🤩
Isn't it such a lovely wooly wool 🥰 I bet it will work up so nicely in garter stitch for that vest!
Your orkney sweater is amazing! I am working on a cable/lace sweater for Sari Nordlund at the moment
Thank you!! Ahh her textured knits are so beautiful-- I hope you love your new sweater 🥰
I live in the Northeast too. Did any of the farms you came across only use their sheep for wool and not for meat?
I honestly don't know as I did not ask! But if you do go to a sheep and fiber show, I'm sure the farmers would be happy to share if they do or don't

That's a really smart idea-- I do have their business card somewhere. Thank you!
