- In this episode of First Person Defender®, a homeowner surprises someone who has broken into his truck.
First Person Defender takes regular "good guys" and puts them in an intense, real life, self-defense situation. We use Simunition guns and ammo, and force-on-force training to see what works, and what doesn't.

"I ain't goin' back to jail dude!" Noted.
You should do a force on force video every week cause I love these
Kody Convis yes
It might just be the slide, but the 9mm looked like it recoiled more than the snub
@gun talk media I love what y'all do, y'all have opened my eyes to a lot of bad habits in all of your videos and instilled a need to continue my firearms training, it's too bad no one in my area offers simunition training though.
This guy is a great example of someone who thinks they know a lot but really have no idea what to do. Just because you know how to shoot doesn't mean you have any idea what it takes to defend yourself.
As I said previously...
I'm a competent shooter. I shoot ~15,000 rounds a year and I know how to clear a stovepipe, I know how to do a tap-rack, I know how to draw, etc. Unfortunately, things are different when you have 3 thick shirts with thick gloves on, malfunction-prone Sims guns, a massive, heavy helmet that limits your vision (forget about periphery or being able to look down), a half dozen cameras rolling, adrenaline and nerves going through the roof, AND you're getting shot at. Everything you think you know gets thrown out the window. Hard to think or focus; I couldn't remember what happened 5 seconds after the exercises were over. That's why I did it, though 😉. Shooting with GunTalk again tomorrow, expect to learn even more. Cheers.
carson123987 round counts do not equal competency... Obviously.
Big_Roach011 Correct. Shooting paper and steel doesn’t lead to competency in force on force scenarios like this...which is why I did it
@@OverlandAspirations I feel like he was relatively humble and straightforward in acknowledging that there were gaps in his level of practical knowledge when it came to force-on-force. No need for the condescension. As this series has proven time and time again, many people make serious mistakes in scenarios like this.
What are your relevant qualifications, again?
Bring back chris
L VR better than this guy
What's funny is everybody criticizing Carson and his techniques and all but let's be honest here most of us would probably do the same thing in a real live scenario as well. Not everybody comes from a military, police or gun background and not all of us are ready to go at a moments notice. Using scenarios helps expose your flaws so you can become better and that's the whole point of the show. This is why I watch this show because the people in these are average people looking to better themselves.
Yea tell ya that when bullets come ripping by you it's a whole different world. Being a gulf war vet the sound of a 7.62 round hitting your vehicle out of a AK will wake your azz up.
Hopefully the baddy is nice enough to use a quiet gun
Ryan was limp wristing the crap out of that FN. haha Need better instructor.
Garrett Scharbor For Real And He had the nerve to talk shit to dude lol
Garrett Scharbor - I’ve noticed on all the episodes that he does not drive his support hand thumb into the frame. It wasn’t as easy to see on this one because of the camera angle, but when they show it from the side, his support thumb always flys off the frame with every shot. This is also why his gun torques counterclockwise 🔄 quite a bit with everything shot. He can shoot fairly accurately, which means he has a good sight picture and trigger press. If he would work on his grip, he could substantially increase the speed of accurate follow up shots.
first of all you should always keep you car doors locked whether in the car or outside of the car. be aware of your surrounding. once you see someone run and get distance as fast you can. don't dilly dally. run into the house lock your door and call 911. then pull your firearm to protect yourself and family.your car is not worth losing your life or taking someone else life..
Nah. If I'm paying $400 a month for my car, and have put in 10k in it already, I'm not letting some lazy thug steal it. I will instantly run and get cover and give verbal commands to get away from my car, if not, I'm engaging
I really would love to do one of these
This was a good episode; I saw several things I wouldn't want to do. I definitely don't want to get in a gunfight, so covering my retreat with my gun would be my plan. I usually have on my phone headset and can just press it to call 911. We have a garage and we actually park our car in there, so I'm a bit more safe getting in/out. Always put the garage door down before you get out of your vehicle!
Nancy Merrell-R Awareness even in your garage, in case a predator sneaks in to the garage or is already in your house. Next thing you know, he is in your garage, good thing, you can pull your gun on draw; just in case.
If you did any of this in California you'd end up in jail sadly.
Michael Pare Cali is an upside down parallel universe in which right is wrong, wrong is right, and GOD HELP YOU If you had to use a gun to protect yourself or family!! PC on STEROIDS!!!! Call 1800Dumb💩!
honestly, i know my environment. If it was up to me. I will be gun out if someone's on my car at my house on my property..... Especially if it was someone I didnt know or someone who looks suspicious. I dont got many friends so I should know who is my bad guy.
Clearly his passion has not done him any good. Arrogance has no place anywhere. Humble the ego son.
I can't tell if you're the wisest or most ironic.
This guy loves to throw his keys every time shtf 😃😄😂
When you're in a high stress situation.. you tend to clinch on whatever you have.
He was trained to get rid of whatever in your hands to get two hands on the gum. I'm sure
I love your show!! It really makes you think about your defensive weapon tactics when it comes to CC ...thank you guys for all that you do
If you want to say that a DA from a revolver is harder to use and maintain accuracy for a newb vs a SA semi auto fine I'm all for that but the visible recoil kind of disproves your point about recoil.
Personally myself And in saying this I know in the heat of the moment things are always different but I would try to get towards being behind an engine block as you said there's a lot more shield there than just windows
Depends on the angle. But yes.
I don't know if I'm a big fan of backing up so far that your still a problem for the bad guy. Protect yourself but always more awareness is just as important. Thinking all time as I'm walking out of the house is someone in the Garage then is some one just around the corner. Always ready... Losing that thought is what makes you more of a Target. Faster safer drawing without fumbling. True the tighter the distance closed in on the better the target you make. There is no best way to do any of this. Because there are always to many variable's But being always mindful that something could be and is always going on I think makes a person better prepared. There someone in that other room there is someone just outside that door there is someone around that corner. There will be someone out there sealing my car or Truck with my kids inside of it. BE PREAPARED. and you will not be snagging your hand gun on your shirt. I guess my point is after seeing this is. TOTALY make sure that your hand gun is unloaded or even using a fake or toy hand gun and just practice all the time. Thinking every time is going to be a bad situation is always the start of self defense. Go through as many different ways you can think of and practice in your head as well.. Thank You for these Videos..
What are the yellow targets being used this season?
If yr life is not in danger don't shoot or yr going to jail
But if the person has a gun then defend yr self
Yeah man take the car I’ve got OnStar it can be immobilized 😂
Unfortunately K-J got smoked but he did a good job defending after. Next would be follow up actions where he would secure the weapon, make sure the attacker is out of the fight and apply a tourniquet on KJ.
Nah his reaction sucked. No idea of cover. He was standing out in the open for like 15 seconds trying to get his gun out of his shirt.
@@jakemakes yeah true. Seconds in a gun fight are like minutes. I mean he could have done worse like the lady that shot the CCW holder in one of them. Lol There have been far worse people in this show for sure. Lol
@@GiuseppeSimonetti Definetely not the worst lol. I feel like it would do a world of good for most people to spend some days on an airsoft field. That'll teach you how to move fast in and around cover with guns.
@@jakemakes I agree with that. People look down at air soft but it's good force on force training that is affordable. Simunition is expensive and for professionals only.
Options? Wow. This really seems bad...I wouldnt know what to do besides try to shoot, if I was that close
The point was not to get closer to the bad guy if possible. Bad guy backed up around the car, dude followed him, poor choice.
How do you take these classis
Search for force on force training classes
this dude sucks, ngl. Important to practice your draw and get a clean de-holstering. Also keep a round loaded. ALWAYS. Saves you from jamming your gun, also a couple times he jammed and double-fed the gun and made the situation worse, you have to mag-out and then rack to clear. Then mag-in and rack n load. Never not rerack a jammed a gun with a loaded mag.
Poor guy kept fucking up.
A lot of moving parts in these situations and people that are involved are learning about what they need to work on. Easy for anyone to play Monday sofa quarterback, make observations, and give negative advice or feedback. I would like to only point out that he threw the keys on the ground. I would only like to point out that this took place. And help him realize that he did. I chose to keep my car keys separate from my house keys. That way I can always get back into my house in the event that I drop or lose my keys.
that's not the point. throwing the keys down when they are in the hand you need to grab your gun is a lot faster than putting them in your pocket and then going for your gun. Its about timing. maybe you need to re evaluate your plans and priorities. having separate keys doesn't do anything and you made no case against his situation. things happen in seconds. and chances are even if his house keys were on that key ring why take your eyes off the threat to get back in your house?
Jacob Credeur So If you had your phone In your hand, you would throw It too?
In the middle of this video he talks about the snubbie revolver. Snubbie revolver not a good choice for virtually anyone imo. I want more capacity and a faster reload (and a longer barrel for that matter).
I know this is old, but some people just like revolvers. Also, it’s very lightweight.
They're marketed as bodyguard pistols for a reason.
Revolvers are faster and easier to draw and you can do contact shooting with them without worrying about going out of battery or having to manually cycle the gun after each shot.
If you can, carry both, use your revolver to get rounds down range while you're pulling out your pistol.
I'm not joking on the speed either, I'm not some hotshot but even I can get 3 rounds on target in less than a second using a level 3 retention holster on my revolver.
They are good for purse carry and storing beneath your pillow. I don't disagree. I'd use a revolver to fight to a rifle.
What person likes being in the dark n not knowing what's coming.... I bet he's starting shooting immediately
It is how practice works
Google says u can't shoot anyone for stealing ur car
Suppose the guy is doing a repo
Carson Carson Carson Smh lol
how could I be in one of these?
Move to Detroit.
Guess I was wrong. He just got shot lol why do ppl drop the mag wen it jams. Just clear the weapon and reload.
In some scenarios you have to drop the magazine. Sometimes just clearing it like you said can make the jam worse. I'd love to see you on the show.
My name is Carson to
2:03 and 15:10 save you some time

piss poor weapons manipulation skills......the instructors only care to teach the fun stuff only
Noah Acker-Fusaro clearing his malfunction in a more effective manner would have been a very nice thing to train on, also on the second scenario he was fumbling around trying to get his gun out... these are all weapons manipulation skills that often goes unappreciated and neglected
Wilfred Mena We went over a ton of stuff in the training segments, including the malfunction clearance. Unfortunately, not everything makes it into the final edit. The instruction was very good, but not everything can make it into such a brief episode.
I do indeed look like a tard in these 3 scenarios. Watching it back, there are probably a dozen things I would do differently. I shoot ~15,000 rounds a year and I know how to clear a stovepipe, I know how to do a tap-rack, I know how to draw, etc. Unfortunately, things are different when you have 3 thick shirts with thick gloves on, a massive, heavy helmet that limits your vision (forget about periphery or being able to look down), a half dozen cameras rolling, adrenaline and nerves going through the roof, AND you're getting shot at. Everything you think you know gets thrown out the window. That's why I did it, though 😉. I definitely recommend Simunitions training if you haven't done it before. Something as simple as a draw gets complicated.
Very thankful for the opportunity; gave me a ton of things to work on.
He almost put his thumb in the trigger guard with the FN when he was going to decock. Then pointing the revolver up range and sweeping the camera mans feet. Be aware please.
v hickles
I don't care much for this gray haired guy..I like the other guy...
5.59 use a different gun look at that recoil
