A rugby free spirit who played an unscripted game that made him very difficult to contain, he had a wonderful way of drifting into gaps, wonderful player to watch.🙏

Even we English, as you were breaking our Hearts, admired those Giants that you had in the 60s and 70s. May they all rest in peace

Great player. Taught New Zealand how to kick goals. An early Dan Carter.

And New Zealand took a further 10 years before the round the corner instep kick over took from the old toe hack as the main type of place kick

As a kid I remember him on the 1971 lions tour to NZ
He popularised the round the corner instep place kick (was not the first person to do this)
Set the lions up for a series win with that first test performance, and without Edwards at half back (who went off injured) playing outside Ray Hopkins (Hopkins was probably the most unlucky half back of all time playing at the same time as Edwards)
The King made the All Black fullback look like a mug with his pin point kicking, that day which contributed to Fergie McCormick missing those easy and vital kicks and then was dropped for a useless fullback who was little better than a club player
