A rugby free spirit who played an unscripted game that made him very difficult to contain, he had a wonderful way of drifting into gaps, wonderful player to watch.🙏
Thank you Michael. Rugby has a habit of creating Giants. In every Nation. I'm sure the next Giants are already on their way. kind regards @@michaellovell1368
As a kid I remember him on the 1971 lions tour to NZ He popularised the round the corner instep place kick (was not the first person to do this) Set the lions up for a series win with that first test performance, and without Edwards at half back (who went off injured) playing outside Ray Hopkins (Hopkins was probably the most unlucky half back of all time playing at the same time as Edwards) The King made the All Black fullback look like a mug with his pin point kicking, that day which contributed to Fergie McCormick missing those easy and vital kicks and then was dropped for a useless fullback who was little better than a club player
Barry was " A free spirit ", He was a game changer and the rugby world changed when he toured with Wales and the Lions ..Not sure how many sportsmen in history has changed theri particular sport so much ,,,,Retired at 27 ....already conquered the world .. R.I.P. ,,ABSOLUTE GENIUS ..G.O.A.T.

Barry John and JPR, gave me so much joy to watch back in the day … and I am English 😞🙏🏻
First JPR and now Barry. Both beloved sons of our Welsh Rugby. We will always love you. RIP
Even we English, as you were breaking our Hearts, admired those Giants that you had in the 60s and 70s. May they all rest in peace

Legends of the best team, from an English fan
He will live on in our hearts as all the greats do .
The greatest first five ever for that era, he had such style and timing we had never seen b4 in NZ followed by Botha, lynah, wilkinson,Carter
Bennett, Davies et'al
Retired to early he had so much more to give RIP Barry John
One & only king. R.i.p barry & j.p.r 🎉😢
My hero as a lad!
Rest in peace Barry, such a gifted man.
A life well lived, RIP Sir.
SUPERB RIP THE KING
What a legend, they are all leaving us :(
Great player. Taught New Zealand how to kick goals. An early Dan Carter.
And New Zealand took a further 10 years before the round the corner instep kick over took from the old toe hack as the main type of place kick
What a shame he didn't seem to realise just how skilled he really was... RIP Barry.
Rip Barry John, you will be missed
Pure quality. Rugy at its best
Immortal
"But Will is very happy, though his money all has gone
He swapped five photos of his wife for one of Barry John"
RIP
