I did this trip (actually started in Hong Kong then via Shanghai to Beijing - stayed 1 week - then on to Moscow and finally St Peterburg) in 2001. Loved EVERY KILOMETRE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely stunning! I love to travel by train and I did traveled a lot back in Russia! I traveled by Amtrax in Florida, it was fun. Thank you for you video!

Some places it looks like the Pennsylvania between New York and Washington, others like the Southern Pacific in California and yet others like the Northern Pacific in Montana. Very interesting and the dinner looks very pre-Amtrak when it was still fun to eat on the train and before Amtrak turned it into something nasty.
It's a good presentation six years ago. The Publisher should have provided English subtitles or voice over. Description part should contain lot of information viz. arrangements, travel, videography equipment, distances, etc.
This railway station is the old railway station in Beijing. As a Peking Man, I've never been to this station by train ... This video for me is also full of novelty, thanks to the author upload video.
China looks so strikingly same to Russia when looking form this perspective. Maybe this transport infrastructure sort of magnify this impression. Thanx for a great, ambient video almost like i've been there myself.
They are very similar, especially for those old industry cities of China. in 1950s, USSR really helped China to create its own industry system. It basically was a copy of the Soviet version. The layout of cities, the buildings and roads, all the same. And in 1960s the two counties broke up, but the knowledge of Soviet engineers remained in China until late 1990s before China completely abandoned those stale design. The following 20 years witnessed a booming growth of China and those Soviet style things were mostly replaced by more modern sutff; but Roma was not built in one day, so you can see many things in striking common in the two counties. I can also see similarities in Czech, Poland and part of Germany. The reasons behind are probably the same.
Fascinating series, thank you for posting it. For a non-Russian speaker or Cyrillic reader, is there English language information available, for signs. menus etc? Are there English speaking staff? And. is there WiFi on any of the trains?
Please write down, the places you go past if you can. Plus, travel times between stations. I know that might be a bit hard, but it'll be good if you could. Thank you.
Why china and rusia did not build a *bullet train* from beijing to moskwa as like bullet train from lasa (tibet) to china, both of the 2 countries have enough money and technology, easier if they want I think
Incredible huge distance and hostile terrain along the way. The cost and maintenance of such a long track, would complete explode. Ticket prices would be through the roof. These really long train rides are mostly for train enthusiasts, for the joy of riding a train. Besides, Russia isn't really rich. They can't even manage to uphold their current infrastructure, and their war in Ukraine is draining their funds even more.
i and my friend plan to take this EPIC train journey in May/2018. Can't wait to ride it myself !!!! there is only one headache, i read that getting a Russian visa application is quite complicated, time consuming and costly !!!! i wish the Russian could have the so called visa- on- arrival. it would make it much easier to travel this route. i wouldn't mind the cost if it could be this simple. i keep dreaming !!!!!!!!!!
Difficulties in obtaining Russian visas in the US, England and several other countries is a mirror response of Russia to obtaining visas to these countries. I and my friends have a sad experience of "communication" with your consulates! It's politics - Russia always answers!
There are 2 Trains : "Beijing - Moscow". 1-First ( Train) Pure Chinese ( only through territory China ( Manchuria) and Russia) ; 2-Second (train) through territory Mongolia ( through Chinese-Mongolian border).

Nice video, I noticed at Erlian that you got off the train for border formalities. I guess you wait at the station while the bogie change takes place rather than stay on as it seems the procedure going the other way?
I got off because I was stupid; The conductors recommended us to leave the train there, but if a passenger insisted, the pax could stay on the train; when i got off the train it was not clear whether the train will leave now for the boogie change or later; well, each pax had to pass through chinese border control in the station, but (if insisting) getting back onto the train
it is indeed better to stay on the train. It is already late evening and the boogie changing procedure including border control can take 2-3h go and sleep after watching the boogie change. Border control ( Chinese) will be on the train in no time, as the Chinese are equipped with mobile terminals for reading your passport. With new boogies the train will move the few km into Mongolia where the Mongolian border control will come on board. They will collect the passports and bring them back to you after an hour or so.
Very interesting! What can you say about the travellers of this train? I mean, which kind of traveller chooses a so many hours lasting trip instead of flying? Travellers with heavy baggages? Cheaper tarifs? I think most of the people weren't travelling the whole trip, but used the train for part of it, for travelling only between two of the cities in which the train stops, didn't they?
It'd be kinda scary to go through all these countries and stopping at those stations in the middle of night.. I am pretty sure that it would be much safer than riding a train in Europe right now .. But.. I would be scared anyways! Have a great night ! P.S: Great Video
I don't really think that would be very scary if I was you. So far. I would definitely feeling enjoyable if I am going to challenge tran siberian railway from Peking to Moscow.
Both China and Russia (I'm talking about the part of Russia along the railway from Ulaan Ude to Moscow) is much safer than the United States (though both are slightly less safer than Japan or Singapore). For the whites, Mongolia is also a pretty safe country as long as you don't go to suburban Ulaanbaatar. So I really don't know what you're afraid of.

it leaves at 8.05am; the 8.05am train goes via Mongolia and is operated by old Chinese cars; the 11pm train goes via Manchuria and is operated by new Russian cars
in 2016 the train leaving Saturdays at 11:22 is a Mongolian Train (K23) which terminates in Ulaanbaatar. Hi Judy. This trip from China to Moscow has always been my school boy dream. If you are keen and can get the money together, do it alone. My wife Chrisna and I are taking the 1 July departure and you are welcome to join us. That means you fly over to Beijing a few days earlier and wait for us. We will come over from Bangkok. Chrisna is a teacher here. If you take 2 weeks off, you can make it. We will help you with all the formalities. We have booked 1st class for 1100$US per person.

There is NO JUMP OFF JUMP ON OPTION either in China Mongolia or Russia as of June 2016. You need to buy a ticket for each sector so that is two tickets at least. One to stop at Ulan Bataar (there ain't much there believe me) and a separate one to continue on.
