The Proud Family: The Chang Triplets Moments

- The Chang Triplets (Billy, Debbie, and Julie) are three fraternal siblings. One brother and two sisters of an Asian family (most likely Chinese due to their surname), who are straight-A students, usually trying to live up to their father's expectations. They really enjoy academic challenges and showing people up for having talents in other subjects. They even study karate with their uncle.

I kinda don't get why everyone was such dicks to those three? They we're more pleasant than half of Penny's friends and she has never had a bad time when she is hanging out with them.
@Will N Being a twin myself the whole twin language thing is some weird cartoon stereotype I'm not even sure why exist?
Because twins are either written in two ways. Clones of each other with some weird made up language or antagonist to each other. So really just a trope at this point and a very tired one at that. I dislike the clone one the most because if you just made them a single child nothing would change about the character really.
@@Technogeek6487 I bet there's a article on tv troops about the "identical twins" troop 😂
Dude, I dont think you remember, but these kids were smug and always rubbing it in peoples faces that their dad knows the wiz
@@MomoKunDaYo No more smug then Penny's "Friends" except Zoey but she is just a pushover
You can easily redesign them, since the characters are getting older, you can have the triplets have more unique identities by saying that they grew different interests as they got older
It would be funny if they now acted more cool and trendy, because since kdramas and kpop became huge, you notice how lost young Asians act now more like the popular kids on TV , than the nerds
@@i_only_simp_for_myself800 Well, the Chang Triplets are not as rich as LaCienega, but they have enough money to live comfortably.
This aged well.
Little did they know-
Let’s be honest, these guys would need one helluva a redesign to come back in the reboot that would make Michael look like he just got a touch up in comparison
Edit:…. Huh, that was a pleasant surprise
@@Shamkk it’s def not as bad but they are kinda close to old Asian characters. I think it’s the teeth on all of them that make them look that way, which btw is an Asian stereotype. not trying to seem angry btw
It's weird there are existing kids/tweens/ppl in reality that have the look and personality of the Changs. But now with sensitive minds, a redesign would have to be necessary to make it seem like there are none of these existing characteristics or look in the world.
@@craig3240 The only redesign I would understand them doing for the reboot is if they were to update there wardrobe and maybe their hairstyles to fit into the 2020's better. Other than that they're cool
I don’t think so. They brought back the groh sisters who are colored blue so yeah I’m not really seeing what’s offensive about their design
@@sunnymane the buck teeth. grow sisters being blue isn't a trope
Dijonay: He's making me learn calculus
Chang's: Well you need calculus just to figure out how many brothers and sisters you have
I AM FUCKING SCREAMING!!!!
Knowing Dijonay, she barely knows how to count, PERIOD.
She must have a very lenient teacher to be getting a “B” in math.
I honestly hope the Chang Triplets will return for the reboot. 😊
yeah i always wondered what they look like now, they were looked so stereotypical chinese face
the’ll turn them into kpop or jpop singer cute face
@@joshuagraham2843 their going to look the same with a more modern personality, so not the typical Chinese stereotype.
They skipped several grades and went to college I assume?
@@WillianyAmill cuz the’re asians?
I suppose they think the characters would look "too offensive" now that the show is about bein "woke".
I’m glad outside of their… highly questionable design… they are still iconic characters. I love that all characters in this show have a flair. Since everyone’s ageing up in the reboot, they have a good reason to redesign them.
I don’t really see anything wrong with their design
@@GeronFletcher Same here
@@GeronFletcher its kinda Chinese face. Its not that bad but its close enough to the racist stereotype that it needs to change. Granted they dont need to change too much. Skin tone adjustment is needed mostly, because asians arent yellow.
@@GeronFletcher for me it’s the buck teeth. Common stereotype and racist imagery for Asians. I think you can only see it drawn sometimes
@@DrawsomeDrawer sometimes they look like they have buck teeth. I don’t watch the show that much so I can’t be 100% sure but buck teeth and Asians in cartoons and media have a long history
I hope they come back. And I hope Disney doesn’t do them dirty
If they do come back they would have to be changed a lot that type of stuff is super racist they would need a different design and different a name
@@djordan9821 yup, skin tone, teeth, hell voice actors
If they did, the reboot’s gonna rectify it by a redesign (they’re older so makes sense). They’ll probably also be put in a different situation so the show can’t allude anything racist, same with what they did with the gross sisters by making them wealthier.
@@djordan9821 I really don't get what they did with the Chang Triplets is any different than what they did with the rest of the cast. They made LaCienega's grandpa extremely stereotypically mexican, they made Zoey the "bland white girl that's trying to fit in" trope, and tons of stereotypical black culture in the show.
@@UltraAnimaniac101 yeah exactly, I'm part chinese, and I didn't find the Chang Triplets offensive at all.
This show gave us the two types of Asian kids we see in middle school and high school tv shows/movies.
The Chang Triplets - Nerdy Asian kids
Kwok & his former fiancé - Cool Asian kids
The guy who played Prince Zuko and American Dragon Jake Long played Kwok.
I rather be friends with the Chang triplets than Penny’s awful so call friends
Same here
Here’s an idea for a redesign
Each triplets has their own specialty characters instead of them all the same so each wanting to pursue their own dreams instead of following their parents rules
Each triplet has a more unique personality, just like 2017 Huey, Dewey and Louie!
@@gemboss4093 absolutely
Writer Calvin Brown Jr confirmed: The Chang Triplets are indeed coming back, they’re just gonna be significantly retooled like Michael was.
In season 2?
@@snixxdevaughn3267 Yup.
lmao why do they play this classic Chinese instrumental whenever they do something its killing me 😅😅😂😂😂😂
It's nice reading the comments and seeing people wanting the Chang triplets to return in the reboot with a redesign that's not stereotypical, knowing that it's EXACTLY what the crew behind "The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder" did.
Wait they’re in the 2nd season? I must’ve missed them🤔
Yeah you know the kids penny asked for help cause Zoey lost their voice that's thrm
I want them to come back, it's such an easy redesign and story fix for their characters.
And theme song.
I don't even see what's wrong with their story. Sure it's a stereotype, but so is Dijonay's whole family. They happen to have rich parents with high standards, which is a nice contrast to LaCieniga's rich but relaxed parents. All they need is for their talents and personalities to be explored more (and fix their dancing skills, lol). So much potential!
@@jonquilgemstone Not to mention, each race in the show, was voiced by matching actors.
Usually in the 2000's, most ethnic characters were played by white people, until the 2020's, during Black Lives Matter.
So to everyone who thinks that this is racist, needs to shut up, I mean, none of the Asian cast found this to be offensive, just somewhat accurate, either that, or they just didn't really care.
@@jonquilgemstone I wouldn't really call the Chang Triplets rich, but rather have enough money to live comfortably. But I guess from their perspective, it's considered wealthy.
And in Louder and Prouder, if you watched the Quincenera episode, I think the Boulevardezes don't have as money as they did in the original series, probably because LaCienega's mom just had to spend almost an entire fortune making the house bigger, an taking out 5 loans to redecorate their mansion
Thankfully, that's exactly what happened for them.
The way they ran when one triplet said they’re cool and rich was hilarious 😂😂😂
8:39 Zoey’s face though 💀
you had to admit that was pretty savage
@@sorenman1 RIGHT 😖😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
💀💀💀💀
I'm pretty sure we won't be seeing them in the reboot
If the show gets green lit for more seasons we might.
At most, they'll be revamped to be more racially appropriate instead of clear stereotypes.
They're putting in cancel culture and James Charles but not the Triplets?
@Xbox One right!?😭
@@NostalgiaGuy760 it won’t
I do hope the Chang Triplets return in Louder and Prouder! They could use redesigns with way more individuality
Like Huey, Dewey and Louie in the Ducktales Reboot?

LOLLLLLLLLL
I can see how this might be offensive for some, but idk... I'm Asian and I loved these characters when I was a kid Lol I always got excited whenever they showed up in an episode. Plus, the voice actors for the triplets + their father were asian, it's not like it was some white dude doing yellowface voice acting or something 😂
(Edit: Also, I'm not chinese, I'm filipino & korean. So I do recognize it might impact me differently than a chinese person. Just wanted to acknowledge that.)
Not at all, im Asian and i think these characters portray Asians as quick thinking, witty, resourceful and holds a high standard
I’m asian and I don’t like it at all almost every American show I watch such as family guy we always get picked on about something we can’t control
@@Bruhman659 that's American comedy for you, they like making fun of whoever don't look like them
@@wilsonweiseng6485 I mean proof not everyone thinks the same
Never really understood why Asians found being stereotyped as smart, hard working, respectful etc. offensive.
I like these versions better, despite their questionable, at best designs, they still have personality. I feel like a lot of characters flair was removed in the new version.
They also don't like Penny anymore, for some reason.
We barely see them
2:08 idc idc they was getting it. Got me dancing
I love how they're almost never referred to by name, just "the triplets", as if they're a hive mind lol
Wait you’re telling me they don’t have a hive mind?
I'll give the Chang Triplets credit. They did have savage moments
So underrated Chang triplets
You guys should see their glow up in the reboot especially Billy and Debbie in Seasn 2 Ep 3
@gwenmloveskpopcecmore, where are the triplets at in the reboot? I didn't see them in there yet.
@@shainahullihen1159 Season 2 Episode 3
They alongside The Gross Sisters were Penny’s Real Friends!
I had friends who were triplets. they were black but they also all looked exactly the same and they’d always have the same hairstyles even throughout high school. Well they had differences in heigh though they were all shorter than average height for a girl but one of them was even shorter. So if the problem is that there is a stereotype of “Chinese all look the same” with the triplets well it’s only because they’re triplets.
I love ❤️ these videos!
Hey we’re cool kids …
Yeah , at the library
😂😂😂😂
8:40 *EMOTIONAL DAMAGE*
Excellent stoked job fellows!!
I really admire the Chang triplets team work
2:07 was just legendary
2:07 - 2:22 They got moves
Ainz maybe for the next upcoming videos, can you show Penny Proud singing on stage.
Because if I can remember Penny Proud wanted to become like a popstar, and I remembered when she sang on stage. And I thought she had a very good singing voice.
Make sure to post some videos of Penny singing on stage for the next upcoming videos as well please ?
I made a video showing that about a month ago. Music Moments
I loved how the Proud Family incorporated racial stereotypes. I’ve always felt that it was done slightly satirically yet respectfully. I hope the reboot does the same 🤞🏼
Right! I felt that was the whole point of the show, to highlight how we are all different backgrounds but we’re not that different at all and it’s cool to stick together as friends. I love the proud family for the light hearted representation without the heaviness.
It doesn't.
Lol how do you do racial stereotypes respectfully?! 🤣
@@spookychords4925 The Boondocks have done it successfully as well and everyone loves them or sometimes the contrary but who knows.
@Craftive-AnythingRL I love the boondocks and I can see how people would say that is done "respectfully". Riley is your stereotypical young black boy who thinks it's cool to be hood/hard. That's a black stereotype, yet people love Riley's character. This is probably because it's a black show creator writing the stereotype rather than another race writing for a stereotype.
6:53 ten kids how do the parents do it everyday and I just realized that the dad sounded like John winterspoon
I hope they come back with new designs like they did for some of the characters it will be nice.
I love the torch snuffing, which is a nod to Survivor. That's how you know this show is from the early 2000s, lol.
7:37 Dijonay: Your daddy is hardcore! He’s making me learn calculus!
Julie: Well you need calculus just to figure out how many brothers & sisters you have.
8:30 Billy: You told us to only pull the cool kids, but our polls show the cool kids don’t vote.
Zoey: Why don’t they vote?
Julie: They’re too cool. You would know that if you weren’t a geek.
8:40 Bruh Zoey looks emotionally devastated by that line. She
reacted like a veterinarian just told her new puppy dog has cancer. Like Watch this, Lis. You can actually pinpoint the second when her heart rips in half." Like Zoey literally died a little inside and that took a minimum of a 6 week off her natural life span. Chang triplet #3 must be an actual dragon because she burned Zoey's kingdom to ground with that one. Just God damn that was brutal. R.I.P. Zoey, L's for Zoey in the chat, #JusticeForZoey.
RIP for zoey
Bro you just kept going, I think you killed her freaking grave with this comment man 💀
The Chang triplets: Hey! were cool kids
Cool sis: yeah at the Library ahahahaaaa
I don’t understand why people are so mad at is this actually isn’t that bad??
Being portrayed as smart, funny fashionable and can dance is not bad at all and doesn’t even have a negative??
Way better than the other stereotypes in the show
Because it’s not true.
You’re giving the expectations that they’re something they’re not. Not all Asians are smart, funny and fashionable. I’m Asian, but I’m not all of these. It’s a positive connotation, but it doesn’t mean it’s right. Now that the pandemic happened, we are now labeled as a virus.
The same way with black people. Not all are portrayed negatively such as ghetto. Hell, they shouldn’t be portrayed negative at all. There are black people who are extremely smart, but we just have racist ass people who think other wise.
Stereotypes suck, so we shouldn’t label people no matter how positive/negative it is. You can be smart, athletic, fashionable, good at dancing, etc..but when it comes to discrimination, everyone gets QUIET.
The Chang triplets didn’t bother me one bit, it’s just I wish I see myself in a cartoon character I can relate to.
its the usual people who get easily offended by this now. there were asian kids at my school with these stereotypes. Back then shows like this were so fun relatable. Not so much anymore with how everyone is offended by everything.
I don't get why people say their design is offensive?
They look like stereotypical siblings that get along fine and get in trouble together.
So, I truly don't get why people are saying there's something wrong with how they look.
I really liked the chang triplets! They had very positive stereotypes. I feel like it's representative of children of immigrants. Chinese hold their elders to high esteem. They are overachievers because their elders push greatness on them. When Dijonay and the Gross sisters exist, the Chang Triplets were not offensive. I think it would be more palatable if they added more depth to the characters by letting them explore themselves individually though.
They also were encouraged to have fun instead of winning or being number one all the time.
@@queteimportaa.2535 Yes! Honestly, the stereotypes were fair in context if the other stereotypes (Papi Boulevardez, anyone?) and it also was refreshing to see a show portraying the overachievers as coming from a fun-loving and enciuraging background. It illustrated how there doesn't have to be a tradeoff between high standards and a normal childhood.
Chang can also be a Korean surname too you know.
To be fair, these guys aren't that stereotypical. Sure, for the most part they are, but the fact that they desperately wanted to be cool like everyone else, and sometimes succeeding in being cool, is something I'll give the writers. Besides, I've seen worse; this is nothing if I'm being completely honest.
yeah but it's their looks that's stereotypical, plus the bowing and the music that plays everytime they appear
@@BillyWiccanHex But even then, this is nothing compared to other shows Disney did, like Quack Pack and Chip n Dale. I also heard that WB had an old show called Histeria that had a girl named Cho Cho, who TV Tropes states is an Asian caricature with an offensive name, and has "Chopsticks" as her theme music. I can see why The Cheng Triplets needed to be retooled, but they are nothing compared to the stuff I've mentioned. Also, they don't play their theme all the time.
The dance episode still gets me 😭
You do realize that’s the voice of Ami, Jenny, Gi and Kim and Kam chin
They could just be nerds who happen to be Asian. It would be cool to see these iconic (and wealthy/well-connected) triplets again, except with genuinely sick dancing skills.
5:57 LMFAO I love these three
7:26
I am so glad I'm an only child.
Honestly they where baddies, I hope the reboot fixes the stereotypical designs along with some other things and they'd be really cool characters. I do have to applaud them for being more inclusive on other races, even if they're very stereotypical.
I am suspicious about the Wizard Kelly's power around the town.
The way they were protrayed never bothered me, they stayed applying pressure on Penny and them.
They just need a little re-working and then they will be fine to put into the reboot.
I actually really liked them.
I love the whole karate kid training thing they did in the Martial arts episode
Why r yall mad last time i checked this is how asian people looked like
Huh to be honest the Chang triplets are the first triplets that I have seen
Wish they could be put it in the reboot for at least a few seconds with the new characters and the new stuff
Chang triplets my favorite characters😻
5:30 whoa the chang triplets got skills
8:25 I told you there was a flaw.
A FLAW?!
What kind of a flaw?!
Amazing 😻
Sheesh… I can’t believe how heavily stereotyped they were…
I think thought that is the fun of if they get a redesign.
Because While they are stereotypes. They aren't completely unsalavageable. They had a personality, even if it was as one entity. They were the ones who owned a large portion of the town. They got money and status, but were still nerds. And growing up, they might even be influencial to the town and its people. They could do more with their culture a little and actual add some specific details.
A little bit of work for not a lot of effort that needs to really change about them to work in the modern age.
Plus you've seen the rest of penny's friends.. They fit right in just fine.
@@xenrusxenomorph2268 hmm yeah. I’d love to see a redesign. And I do agree that the rest of penny’s friends are like that too. Literally the gross sisters are blue (as a skin joke) I was hoping they would change that
@@four4446 well they are blue because of the joke they are ashy.. ashy skin on a black man was made to look blue.
In essence the gross sisters are gross because they dont moisturize or lotion or.. do much with their hair and skin.
I think you just got your Asian lens on. I think everyone on this show was a stereotype. It's just a show, and not that offensive. You just only care about Asians, which is a problem in itself.
@@xenrusxenomorph2268 oh I though it was a “so black they were blue” joke. That explains their light blue color

Love this moment
“No way Sticky and those dropouts could crack a ridda fastan’a CHANG churplets”
Nah y’all tripping. @1:40 the Chang triplets are always depicted as smart , fashionable and good dancers. Let’s talk about how they portray dark skin people on this show. The Groh sisters are depicted as bullies and so dark that they colored them blue. And let’s not get started on Dejanay 🥴

*They're blue because they're ashy for crying out loud* 😂💀☠
Nah I’m mad bout them. Why are they “gross,” why are they “big black women”? Why are they the only ones with natural black hair styles? Every other black character has silky hair or blonde hair. Very white washed
Or everybody dark is “ratchet” and have crazy natural hair? Black women are beautiful, especially one that embraces her heritage despite challenges because she deserves better
@@yemyearmii7231 That’s not true. Look at BeBe and CeCe and their uncle Bobby.
