    The show is about Expats, not Hong Kongers. I watched ep 1 and 2. The show starts true to the theme focusing on the expat family. Nicole spoke Cantonese when he went out shopping at local vendors. I agree that I had higher expectations to the show before I watched it. Have to see how the story progress.

    No one complains about NYC or Chicago being portrayed negatively. So why complain about portraying negatively HK. Every city has its negative side, it's a city with 7.6 million people. There's going to be bad stuff. Also, there are plenty of HK made movies about HK that show a negative side. Complainers are just ignorant. Lastly, this type of complaining only showed up after the handover of HK to China who are overly sensitive about negative stories.

    • @Stephen-we6do
      @Stephen-we6do 4 месяца назад +1

      I think the general issue is that is is an American production centered around HK and shows a negative side of the city. This is like if China made a show about some international Chinese students who go to NYC and they just get robbed every episode. I personally can see why it is negative but I think the negativity is a little overblown.

    • @Obscurai
      @Obscurai 4 месяца назад

      @@Stephen-we6do It doesn't matter if the production was from the US, Chinese or HK. HK will have both positive and negative stories. If people are complaining because it from a US production, then they are small minded people defaulting to some simplistic patriotic basis for their critique.

    I think it’s difficult to resonate with any type of audience, it’s like a New Zealand (kiwi) writer/director making a series about Canadian and Malaysian expat couple in Northern Territory of Australia, where occasionally they interact with aboriginal people, and their son got kidnapped. Would Aussies or others be interested in this plot. It feels so random, that’s all.

    This show is already censored in China, lol. Also, phasing out Cantonese is a deliberate policy of the CCP. The funny thing is that in recent years, several movies and shows have been made in China about how dangerous Southeast Asia is. People even speculate that those movies have negatively impacted Southeast Asia's tourism business. Hong Kong's tourism industry is not doing well because everything unique to Hong Kong is gone. It is also no longer a safe place from China's influence, and many of their best people have also left.

      @@ftu2021 LOL, people in Hong Kong has a negative attitude towards mainlanders for decades. And that has not stopped mainlanders from coming for decades. Mainlanders even called Hong Kong the ruin of the old international financial center these days. They felt it was no different from just a regular city in the mainland but with more attitudes and foreigners. Besides, it's even much easier to go to Singapore and Thailand for mainlanders than to go to Hong Kong. This is no accident.
