Actually, my understanding was that the guy just stuck it at the end, as a place to put it where it wouldn't get lost. Tape was actually cut and pasted (adhesive tape) in those days and he couldn't really tape it to another reel. Oddly, having it end up at the end of side two, makes it match the abrupt ending of I Want You on side 1.
The last song "Her Majesty" is a (singing) toast (to The Queen). When you toast you have a glass (of alcohol) so him saying "but I've got to get a belly full of wine" is "Yeah, THE QUEEN! ... now let's knock one back.

This was the first Beatles album I ever listened to, and afterwards I checked out everything else in their discography in chronological order, and it was all great. There's no hidden dark meaning to Octopuses Garden, though the song is generally about just going to somewhere less stressful than you are, as the Beatles were basically on the verge of breaking up while recording their last 3 albums (self titled, Let It Be and this album). They kind of intended for this to be their goodbye album, even though they would release Let It Be the year after, but that was mostly recorded before this. Genre-wise, Barnes and Noble just lists every Beatles album as pop-rock, which is correct, though this album does have hints of psychedelia as well, mainly on Because. I Want You is also considered one of the first doom metal songs, even before Black Sabbath's self titled. It's nowhere near as heavy, but it has the feeling. As another commenter said, basically every Beatles album from Rubber Soul onwards is great, so you should check those out. However, everything before their self titled (to my knowledge) was intended to be heard in mono, but since stereo is the standard now they basically don't have any mono mixes on streaming, the only two albums that do are Revolver and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, both near the end of the Super Deluxe editions of those albums. For Revolver I would seriously suggest the mono mixes, and for Sgt. Pepper the Beatles producer George Martin said "You haven't heard Sgt. Pepper until you've heard it in mono", but the mono mix on streaming kind of cuts out the outro a bit for reasons I won't explain here, but the 2017 remixes are very faithful to the mono mix, so I'd say check those out!
As far as your next Beatles album, my 2 favorites are Rubber Soul and Revolver. Both are great, but Revolver is psychedelic with the occasional drug reference, which seems to be something you'd rather not hear, so Rubber Soul might be the safer choice for you.
Thankfully the original 1969 mix on this album is good and holds up. For other albums of theirs I'd recommend listening to the new mixes (post 2017 Super Deluxe versions). The 2009 remasters sound pretty bad especially on headphones. They just hadn't developed the techniques to mix stereo correctly until the late 60s early 70s. All the new mixes are on Spotify, so they are readily available.
About 70% of the time the 2009 remasters are better as they retain the finer details of the music. Just one example is in the song 'everybody's got something to hide' There's a break in the song at 2:06 where John steps away from the mic at a good distance and lets out this manic scream multiple times, it's extremely faint (use earphones), I always loved that part. It's completely drowned out in the new remixes. But a song like all my loving has been improved from the 2009 remasters. I don't understand why Giles didn't start off with remixing the older albums, recorded with more primitive technology as these are the albums that would have benefitted more from it. Not abbey road, it's perfect the way it was! In 10 years time they'll come up with another excuse to remix these albums and tinker with the music, until each time a instrument here or there is completely buried. Also look at she said she said and helter skelter
Since you don't know what "heavy" means, i assume you never have seen Back To The Future. It stops like that because it closes side one of the album and they took it to the end of available space on the record.
It stops abruptly because that was John Lennon's deliberate artistic decision for this track, asking the engineer to "cut the tape" at that spot, not because of available space on the album.
