    I’d love to see a Julian Krause review of this high end audio interface. Given the quality and rich core features, i thought it was a little puzzling they went with a USB 2.0 profile on the USB-C, and didn’t include more actual mic preamps at that price point.

    • @JC-fj7oo
      @JC-fj7oo Год назад +5

      I'm assuming he won't for at least a while. He usually looks for good deals in AI's, and while this is a neat high end option, it's $2000. Even the $200 interfaces are giving specs above what microphones can realistically record anyway. Heck this year we're seeing 32bit recording which can record higher dynamic range than air can physically create. So... If it has features you want/need, get it. If not, spend the 1600 dollars you save on upgrading something else.
      Personally, besides price, I would say the main problem with this is the touch screen. Even good touch screens don't last forever and unlike knobs which can be replaced for a few dollars, the screen basically is the whole unit. It's also only 24bit, which is fine, but considering budget units are rolling out 32 bit... And most of the "features" are just vst that you probably already have for free in your daw.
      Realistically I think they just took the neumann name and put together a decent product that they know people will buy just because of the name.

    I'm willing to bet with the Neumann name behind it they are gonna get WAYYYY more traction then merging tech was able to get on their own. like sure the Anubis is amazing and don't even get me started on the Hapi, but I'll bet you 90% of pro engineers haven't even heard of Merging Tech, ask any engineer you know (who isn't a classical engineer or a mastering engineer) if they have heard of Merging or Pyramix. Now Neumann on the other hand... That's a name the kid down the street with a behrenger mixer and a couple of busted sm58 knows about and aspires to own. VERY excited to see if this partnership between Merging tech and Neumann continues to develop! Lets just hope Neumann (or sennheiser for that matter) continue to give merging tech developmental freedom. really cool stuff coming from that company.

      I'm an RME guy and the Neumann honestly isnt too impressive in my opinion. Have you looked into the Babyface or Fireface UCX lines? They're at least as powerful as this, with the possible exception of dynamic range. RME is tried and true, been rock solid in my Windows 10 studio for years. I've got a UFX II and it's an absolute beast, 30x30 channels for not much more than this with even more functionality especially when recording a large group. I can set everyone up with their own headphones mix and give each person control of their mix from a free app. Pretty awesome stuff!

      It being cheaper is a really great move on their part, they’ve decided it’s worth it and it seems to be great for getting people to ask questions about AES67 and the functionalities Merging offers.

I would have thought pressing the Monitor A button or the Monitor B buttons would swap outputs but it looks like it just brings up the settings for that output.
    Second question, is there any way to trim the level of the preamp before conversion on these? I'm sure the preamps are very nice, I'm someone who likes to overdrive my preamps for certain sounds and if I could do this on the MT-48 without clipping the A/D and could then EQ and compress in real time with the unit then I could effectively get rid of channel strips and just use the MT 48 for that purpose.

    Looks like an intresting interface but from a design stand point, it would have been ive to see a much smaller "knob" to make room for a larger touch screen. That screen seems really small to use as the primary way to control the unit. too much stuff on the screen and I can see having all sorts of issues hitting the incorrect item on the screen.

    How many channels of aes67 can it send through the usb-c port?
    This thing is really perfect for location recording with remote preamps, local monitoring / headphones /talkback.
    The website mentions compatibility with their aes67 monitors, i hope they plan the monitor section to include atmos setups, that would make it a great contender.

      I couldn't find any info about it either, would be so nice if it would support Atmos room correction like the Anubis does.

    Can the MT48 support a simple hardware control surface similar to RME ARC-USB? DIM-MUTE-MONO and assignable shortcuts to some deeper settings like 48V would be nice. Otherwise, the built-in screen seems quite adequate for setting up and occasionally tweaking the interface.

    Spec seems to be almost the same with Anubis except for the USB-c and adat, but I've heard that MT48 did not use ESS chip on DA. Chip set is not everything but, wondering which chip set is used in AD/DA, aslo if there's any sound improvement

      Hello - great question! If you plug a ¼” cable into the line input it will bypass the mic preamps, so all good.
      Thanks!

    dont see inserts, can this unit still work for outboard compression, fx ?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hey there! Yes, you can still run outboard processing with this interface. The “send/return” will just look a bit different. If you’re wanting to run into something like an outboard compressor, you can run from either line out 3 or 4 (or both if stereo), and then run the output of the compressor line-in to either input 1 or 2 (or both if stereo).
      Hope this helps!

    • @sweetwater

      Hello, Jonathan! The MT48, only having four analog audio outputs, would not be able to support 5.1. As you said, 5.1 requires six total outputs. If you need help selecting an interface for surround sound, feel free to contact us!
