    If you're just using acrylic paint for the wash, use some soap in the water. It's a bonding agent, makes the pigment dry in the bottom. If it's just water, the paint floats and leaves a ring. Looks good. Well done! I used to use this trick for painting minis when I was a teen.

    • @fdort3971
      @fdort3971 2 дня назад

      Interesting tip! I've never heard of it. What type of soap? What is the ratio of soap:water:paint please?

    • @ricHard.18
      @ricHard.18 2 дня назад

      @fdort3971 I don't remember. I was a kid and made my own cheat sheet when painting minis. And I had those big syringes. So I made my soap to water mix. Just dish soap. So maybe ¼ cup to 4 drops of soap, maybe. But it was 3 drops of soapy water to 1 drop paint. And I used it for my minis and it worked great! Maybe 2:1 soapy water:paint. The soap is just a medium, which you can just buy at a craft store. But I was a kid with no money and dial up internet. You did what you had to survive. Haha

    As an artist and a professional carpenter, believe me when I say this is a beautiful sign! You made some great choices! My only minor recommendation is to not apply wood glue to both surfaces unless you are gluing end grains together. It actually makes for a weaker bond. But that is a minor technical issue.

    Great project, and trying new things is always good, pushing yourself to learn new skills. I love aging things. One suggestion would be to have some patina on the wood around the letters, the rain would puull copper oxide off the metal onto the wood itself. Resulting in tide marks over time - some small streaks of blue/gree coming down would look great.

    Copper Dragons in DND are bibliophiles, and they love company.
    They would be great Librarians.
    Here's an idea, the kingdoms Head Librarian is a young Copper dragon, they ask the party to track down the last copy of rare books, since all but one each have been destroyed, they will pay a fortune for each one, once the party delivers the last one, the Dragon Librarian will give the party an indestructible magic book they can use to communicate with them and teleport rare books they find along the way, once the party defeats the BBEG, they discover the BBEG has been hoarding rare and legendary books that have been missing from the Royal Library for centuries, the BBEG tried to ____________ the world so they didn't have to pay their late fees.
    (PS, Campaign long side Quest only, please.)

    If budget is an issue I'd suggest Beavercraft's Palm Gouges instead of the hand chisel gouges that you have. Idk if they changed their high chromium steel in the past 5yrs or not, but be very careful on how much force and torque you apply while carving. I was one of their designers & brand ambassadors in 2019. The reason I no longer work for them is because of their heat treat process, the steel they use and I've had countless blades break while carving. If you can afford a little better quality I'd highly recommend my personal favorite wood carving company. Morakniv. I use their Precision, Kansbol, 511, Right Handed Spoon Knife for most of my heavy torque carving. Love the work brother!

    Very nice work.
    Yeah, I hate the so-called copper colors of spray-paint. Not sure what you were going for, but if you want a future build to have more of a copper look, here’s my little trick : give it a base-coat of orange, hit it with gold spray paint; get the low spots with dark brown; and then rub-n-buff the high spots with autumn gold. Gives a nice warm polished copper look.

    I do believe that I enjoyed this video of yours more than the last movie I watched. I carve fishing lures and use all the tools you do, so I was quickly able to connect to what you were crafting. And I too share your "beginner" skills and concerns, but try to push towards deeper details with each project. All through your build I kept hoping to see your sign hanging in your brother's "Tavern", and the farther into the video, the more anticipation grew. You did not disappoint! I found great satisfaction seeing him hang your sign in its most appropriate place.
    If I were to suggest one small thing... I desired to see a fang so after watching your video I looked at pictures of several dragons. Most of the ones with their mouth closed didn't show teeth, but a few did. I would have opted for a few points of teeth showing. A very minor detail and totally optional.
    I found the song at the end most fitting. Was this written especially for this production or did you happen to find the PERFECT song?
