It was good to see DeForest Kelley and Leonard Nimoy again. This technology may not be time travel, but it feels like it.
It is just is a bit eerie to see them again like this in the newest movies. This is very well done, just seems strange.
Genesis!
So when do we get real movies made with this tech?
indeed been along time
It is good to see their younger selves interact in a way we haven't already seen a thousand times before via the same videos.
Quinto's voice sounds so wrong coming out of Leonard Nimoy's face.
@RogerwilcoFoxtrot But Pine does a great Shatner
@RogerwilcoFoxtrot Agreed
@RogerwilcoFoxtrot naw zack never looked like spock to me. He doesn't even sound like young spock. It takes me out of the series.
Agreed but the face swap looks so natural
watch it with the sound off. Spock is logical Perfection
Nimoy's face fits perfectly over Quinto's - their bone structure is so similar.
Yea but the voice might as well be female. 💀
God that was awful.
Yeah, its only Zack's hairline that looks wrong.
Absolutely. It's great to know that Quinto and Nimoy became friends and shared a real bond over Spock. This deep fake just shows what a good choice Quinto was. And while the deep fake doesn't work as well with Chris Pine overlaid with Shatner, Pine is nevertheless a great choice for Kirk.
I would rewatch the entire Kelvin Timeline movie trilogy deep-faked like that. It would be awesome 👏🏼
This. ^^^^^
Oh man, I would absolutely love to have all three of the new movies deepfaked like this. 😊
I agree.
If they could hire some solid voice impersonators, why not?
Me too. Yes.
The deepfake is impressive, but the editing brilliance is what really makes this video so amazing!
Some of these shots work better than others - but in general they are all great, and some of them are spectacular. The shot of Kirk at 1:54, for example, is absolutely extraordinary. Now we just need to be able to deepfake voices, and we'd be in business. On another note - kudos on the editing. Really well put together!
they already have software now to copy how someone talks. they use it in star wars mandalorian for luke's voice, they took old interviews of mark hamill and the computer was able to replicate his voice
Welp, the tech is here now
They have deepfake voices - pretty good too - that's why i'm wondering why it wasn't used here.
AI in 2024: "Hold my beer..."
@@allirogorillathe video is 3 years old
there has been much advancement in that time
It is so freaky that Leonard Nimoy fits in so naturally.
Because Zachary Quinto was born to ne the new Spock :)
Until you hear Quinto's high-pitched voice coming out of Nimoy's mouth.
Same with Shatner. This was very well done IMO.
I think the classic Vulcan hair cut give the computer algorithms something they can really line the faces up with, as well Quinto has a very Nimoy shaped head. As someone else stated he was pretty much born to be Spock 2.0, too bad we didn't get more of him.
@@HeadHunterSix I disagree, he doesnt have the facial structure. Nimoy was so unique. The new spock on Discovery is worse than Quinto though IMO.
This just makes me want a CGI Trek series set in the original series with a de-aged Shatner/Nimoy/Kelley and rest of cast. Basically give us the season 4 and 5 we never got. We are at a point now where it could be done...and quite convincingly.
Edit - because people keep replying to this comment by bashing current Star Trek trends, let me be specific by saying, just because I'd like a Trek series featuring a CGI'd original cast, doesn't mean I'd want one made by current standards of Trek writing/production. So please, stop replying to this with how much you don't want a series like that handled by the current production staff. Neither would I. But that was never the point of this comment.
Until that time check out Star Trek Continues right here on RUclips! They completed the five year mission and even though it’s fan produced it’s VERY professional and good. The guy playing Kirk channels Shatner and ‘Scotty’ is even played by one of Doohan’s sons.
At the end of SNW, id love to see the show at the very least show the command of the Enterprise being passed from Pike to Kirk, and in 8-9 years deep fake tech will be ready for prime time I think. Id love even more for them to do a TOS remake following SNW, but pick up at season 4, finishing up the first 5 year mission, maybe seeing all of the second.
Great work! One of the better deepfakes I have seen yet!
We are now in the age of "The Running Man".
@@gabesnooks3549 not long to go now
Someone will eventually do something like this. Shame it won’t be with this series. This looked so good.
Chris pine and shatners features really agree with each other
That's why Chris Pine got the part - he resembles Shatner.
I suffered cognitive dissonance looking at Shatner's face with Pine's hair.😂
very 1965 meets 2010
Pine's massive spam tho
1965, 2009, and 2013, meet 2020.
Pine’s WIG you mean? Pretty sure Shatner could just swap them out.
William Shatner + Chris Pine =Thomas Jane Anyone else sees this?
This is some of the cleanest DeepFake work I've seen, and you're using it on Star Trek. You deserve all of the subs.
Casting for Bones is simply brilliant. Seeing DeForest Kelley in Karl Urban's face actually makes me believe Im seeing a perfectly younger version of McCoy!
Urban was perhaps the only one that actually resembled the original series actor - DeForest Kelly. Pine was a fairly close choice for a young Shatner and the same with Quinto as Nimoy, though Quinto's voice was too soft in modulation and higher in frequency even for a young..ish Spock, but then Nimoy's voice timbre was iconic.
.
Of the remaining supporting cast - Cho did okay as Sulu, ditto with Saldana as Uhura. but Simon Pegg as Scotty was a total miscast. All the previous actors were perhaps the closest resemblence to the original cast available, but Pegg ? He just wasn't the right shape, look or anything, even his Scottish accent was without the Doohan mannerisms that at least the other actors came fairly close to emulating in their portrayals of the original cast.
.
Don't get me wrong, I like Simon Pegg in other things, especially as a straight actor, but not in the Star Trek universe. Not as a well known character at any rate.
@@Deebz270 complete agreement. Pegg did his best but I feel he missed the mark too and should not have been cast as Scotty.
@@realwhatbrains That rather depends on whether you judge him by his performance as an actor or his imitation of James Doohan. For someone looking for the latter, yes; but I'd argue that a new viewer who didn't bring that baggage would judge Pegg the more convincing of the two in that role.
@@Deebz270 wish they would have kept Paul Mcguillon like Chris Doohan wanted too
young DeForest Kelly looks jacked
The facial mix between Shatner and pine is one extremely good looking man.
I'll second that. I met him several years ago. If only I could have met him 50 years ago, but I was only 7!.

Nice pun!
You sir are insanely talented. Compliments from an old Trekkie like me.
Honestly, this shows how well chosen Chris Pine was for a young Kirk, too.
Except the original Kirk wasn't cross-eyed.
Cazychel i agree
He does look like him but the script didnt have them act in situations the same . Not at all .
I think him and Carl Urban did a great job, Simon Pegg was terrible as Scotty though. The script was pretty bad, Kirk was made overly incompetent in all 3 flims, don't even get me started on Khan.
Indeed.
Leonard Nimoy and Deforest Kelley are the best Deepfake of the three ones, the surprise was Ricardo Montalban as Khan again
"I've done far worse than kill you. I've hurt you, and I wish to go on.... *hurting* you. I shall leave you as you left me -- as you left *her* -- marooned for all eternity in the centre of a dead planet, *buried alive!*
-- *KHAAAAANNNNN!*
McCoy looked like a stud on that body....he was a wirey thing back in the day...
@@Robert_Douglass Shatner and Montalban are perfect together. Just the right amount of over the top acting. But seriously, the two characters, Kirk And Kahn complete each other in a Batman Heath Ledger Joker sort of way. Trying to recast and reimagine it was poorly considered and even more poorly executed. Another great example of over the top acting in Trek and on the same theme is Picard's half mad quest to singlehandedly destroy the Borg."The line must be drawn here. This far, no further. And I will make them pay for what they've done."-Picard (angry and half insane, the best Picard)
@@kb9oak749 I did love that scene. "You broke your little ships. See you around, Ahab...." And then Picard quotes Moby Dick as only Sir Patrick Stewart can.
"And he piled upon the whale's white hump the sum of all the rage and hate felt by his whole race. If his chest had been a cannon he would have shot his heart upon it." Listening to that always got me in the feels. Apparently it got Stewart in the feels too -- supposedly this scene was his inspiration to play Captain Ahab in the 1998 remake of Moby Dick.
@@kb9oak749 : that is your opinion and mine is that the newest movies are great. It’s sad to see how many love to jump on the ‘Negative Train Review’ of these well made newest films! Back in the 1960s, watching TOS on a new color TV was the pinnacle of that technology back then. I was just happy that my parents had finally saved enough to get a color TV set. Benedict Cumberbatch’s Kahn was fantastic, he oozed menace and vain self-importance.
Spock deepfake is so flawless. Both Quinto and Nimoy share same face shape.
Kinda. But they're not the same character.

It's well done but it's nowhere near as good as you suggest. Nimoy's face acting like Quinto's is just obviously wrong, and of course the hair and the rest of the body doesn't match. Same for the others. In some shots it's quite obvious that the computer didn't do an impressive job, either.
@@Argumemnon Good enough for me. Would be a "shut up and take my money buy".
They should redo ALL of the new Star Trek movies this way...it is uncanny how Kirk looks...incredible!! How beautiful to see...Thank You!!!!
I never cease to be amazed by the 'sweet spot' in deepfake: that moment when your brain triggers on the incredibly subtle morph of originalface --> deepfake! Even stepping frame-by-frame doesn't diminish that.
@@Argumemnon just stop it. if this clip was presented to you without you ever having prior knowledge of the source material, you wouldn't even notice.

DeForest was always a wiry but healthy looking guy, like you'd expect a country doctor to be who took care of himself. It's interesting to see him jacked...maybe he'd have jumped into more hand-to-hand combat with Kirk!
@Jerrol Hale Karl Urban is a chameleon - he just completely takes on any character he plays. He's like the Gary Oldman of a new generation.
@@HeadHunterSix Yeah, it sucks that he's not as critically acclaimed as Oldman, though. Over the years I've come to realize Karl Urban is one of the most underrated actors I've ever known! He did a tremendous job in Dredd too.

HeadHunter urban is awesome. Love that guy. Shame he can’t do a Cockney accent to save his life though (the boys)
What this shows most of all is how well Spock was cast in the movies.
And Pine as Kirk and Urban as McCoy.
I wish they got Quinto back for Discovery and Strange New Worlds.
The casting was excellent. Some people have complained about Quinto’s voice v Nimoy’s but… people always need to complain about something 🤷🏻♂️
Adding Ricardo Montalban was brilliant! He’s WAY scarier than Benedict Cumberbatch!
That is Beyond a shadow of a doubt!
Definitely!
He was a great foe for Kirk a match off of wits . Montalban shined in that role . ST2 was the best film but at the time I first saw it I was hoping more of them face 2 face not on a view screen.
I HATED Bernadine Cumbersnatch in that role. Hated him! What a horrible casting decision. Not only did Eggs Benedict looked NOTHING like Ricardo Montelbaun, he also looked nothing like any person that might carry the name "Khan". At least Ricardo Montelbaun looked vaguely like someone that might have some South Asian DNA. But worse, Benedict Cumberbatch's speech, mannerisms, and entire persona were hopelessly mismatched to the original character. It was rediculous, a total shit show!

By the way this is really well edited, that overlapping between TOS and Kelvin makes it all so much better
I'm not a fan of the reinventing the first crew but I have to have to admit, making the crew look young again is staggering.
Very impressive.
Shatner has more charisma than even the latest Hollywood has to offer.
I'd say charisma, in general, is sorely lacking in modern Hollywood. Compare movie stars of yesteryear with today's stars. There is no comparison.
He has more charisma than the entirety of current Hollywood.
Dwayne Johnson is the only one in Hollywood currently who has similar levels of charisma.
I honestly never thought of Shatner as charismatic until now. Now I see it.
I remember listening to an interview with Rich Little on the Carson Podcast, and Little suggested that it’s hard to imagine doing impressions of modern actors because they are generally so interchangeable.
Why wasn't Jeffery Hunter used as Christopher Pike as well? I mean, if you're going retro...

Feels more right. Though I think Ricardo could play khan at any age, it’s his voice and style that sells it.
That effeminate Quinto voice coming out of Nimoy though...
It makes it easier to see how they ruined Star Trek.
He's trying his best. Lol
@@hxhdfjifzirstc894 that's a very stupid reason to put there
I disagree, Mr. Nimoy approved the selection of Mr. Quinto , who are we to disagree with that high recommendation! Plus I really don’t think that Mr. Quinto has an effeminate voice, it’s just not as deep as Mr. Nimoy (my childhood idol back in the 1960s). Zachary Quinto was quite fearsome as the evil character, Sylar in the TV series ‘Heroes’.
Only missed Jeffrey Hunter as Pike
Might not be enough visual samples for those ones
very true .
Or Anson Mount?
@@LtFoodstamp I think you could find samples of Jeffery Hunter in other movies from around the that time period.
@@gabrielabate6020 And Bibi Besch was on the soap Another World so you can find younger versions of her pretty easily
This is pretty legit. I'm shocked how naturally their faces mapped onto the new class actors. It's not only a credit to their acting abilities but to the people who cast them as well.
Spock actually looks great. Unfortunately, Zachary's voice is not even close...
Problem is, to get the same voice you end up with COPD... :/
I thought Spock, Kirk and Bones were actually quite good in the new films. Just shockingly written and directed.
this looks amazing! please teach me your ways
he cheated
I'd like to know which software was used to morph those faces so well. I haven't seen the like for 20 years.
It is amazing and also sort of weird for me because when I watched TOS back when it first aired in the 1960s, I didn’t ever expect to see the episodes again. Geesh, my parents had just recently bought a color TV and that was a big thing back then. My dad (a veteran of WWII in the Pacific) would have loved to see the new movies because TOS was his favorite program.
It can be done on iPhone apps in similar quality
They are most likely using Deep Face Lab (github.com/iperov/DeepFaceLab ). It uses an open source machine learning platform to figure out how to transform one face into another. Fair warning--this software is NOT user friendly nor is it very intuitive to use. It takes a fair amount time to learn (and you'll need a decent NVIDIA graphics card) before you'd be able to produce anything close to this good. But once you do, the sky is the limit! Imagine taking a fan film and swapping in the actual actors (like what was done above). Imagine taking a scene from a movie and swapping in YOUR face. Imagine what you can do with adult material; like I said--the sky is the limit!
As for those face swapping apps on Android and iPhone--that's like comparing Legos to a commericial-grade 3D printer. The results are passable, but you'll never get anything as good as what you see here.
I don't know why but I like it so much more with William Shatner face swapped.
Thanks for reminding us how much better Wrath of Khan was than anything from the Abrams-verse.
Any bets when Nog took the test he managed to sell the Klingons a couple of Federation colony worlds so they just left.
This came up on my recommends - its amazing! Nice job!!
Imagine the whole movie like this. Urban as Bones is pretty damn good though
Not bad. How about the TNG episode "Tapestry," where Picard gets to re-live his cadet days? A bit of wizardry could change the episode so that the audience sees a young Picard (which Q tells him "everyone else" sees) instead of the mature one that he and we see.
Yes, and deepfake either his son's face (he was in the TNG episode "The Inner Light,") or maybe Tom Hardy (Shinzon from "Nemesis.")
i'm sorry but this needs to be done for the whole movie please. i would pay to see that!
"My God, Bones... what have I done?"
"What you had to do, what you always do. Turn death into a fighting chance to live."
Ooh I’ve got shivers
Best Star Trek line of all time.. and explained James T. Kirk better then what modern POS writers have tried ever sense.
Das was du immer getan hast, trotz aller Widrigkeiten weiter ums Überleben kämpfen...
That's the best hair that William Shatner has ever had or could hope to have!
👍👍👏👏‼️‼️. Good one, 😆
1:44 okay but spock's face works *PERFECTLY*
1:47 for me kirk's face looks a bit too old for his head but the face simulation is really good (sometimes it works like in 1:09)
1:22 the face works but the body is too muscular for bones lol
Still this is an amazing job
This improves Abrams Trek immensely!
Can you redo the scene where young Spock is talking to old Spock, right toward the end of the film. That would be INCREDIBLE

Please, please, please :D
Outstanding!!,
It has such a different nostalgic feel to it, reminds me of when I first started watching the original " Star Trek" Very well done....
A little rough around the edges in some effects, but I liked what you were going for! Great job overall.
Chris Pine and Bill Shatner are so facially close, it's hard to even tell who is who.
Prosopagnosia is an under-diagnosed condition.
Aunty Ro Knows They dont look anything alike
@@christiansoldier77 : they seem to from this clip, which is brilliantly done!
Chris Hemsworth is much closer to Shatners look than Pine, I think
I take some time to realize the face of Chris was Shatner, duuude.
Pine is ok. But there's no other then Shatner. Too bad
