Great summary BR, came out of 996 15 month's ago into 2006 4.3, wafting and spirited driving is second to none. You really become attached to the whole ownership experience and the looks are to die for, it's such a rewarding car to wring out. Cheers
You can put a supersprint exhaust on this which gives you (dyno proven) 31hp and than a remap which will add about 25-30hp and voila 440hp and 450-460nm, not superfast but definitely fast enough and you are riding a beautifull timeless car which can actualy take some groceries.
rubbish. Even Mike will tell you the max he could do with his manifolds, sports cats and remap is about an honest 415hp on a 4.3, maybe a tad more with the active inlet - as he explains, it gets a 4.3 to within a hair of a standard 4.7 in terms of top end. A different rear silencer adds almost nothing, maybe another 2-3hp at the very top end.
Hi guys. Excellent review. Just discovered your channel while looking for Aston Martin info. In the market for one and this has been a big help. Keep up the great work.
Hi Mike great video again. I've had my V8 4.7 for almost 4 years and love it. 👍👍 i found other drivers let you out and give the thumbs up 👍👍 compared to my Farrari test drive where I got the W***** hand wave off a couple of drivers haha.
I've wondered if the throttle mapping is a factor in the different feel/driving experience between the 4.3 and 4.7. Reported differences in the 0-60 mph times is only a tenth of a second or so, which is the true description of performance. Yet some 4.7 owners say the 4.7 "feels much quicker." If the 4.3 gives 50% throttle at 50% pedal position but the 4.7 gives 65% throttle at 50% throttle position, the 4.7 will "feel faster." Or is this not the case? Has anyone measured actual throttle opening, related to throttle pedal movement on both cars?
4.3L 0-60: 5.1sec 1/4 Mile: 13.5sec @106mph 4.7L 0-60: 4.3sec 1/4 Mile: 12.7sec @ 112mph Night and Day difference, also a much much better measure of actual acceleration is always the quarter mile. 0.8 seconds in the 1/4 is massive, hence why the 4.7 feels way faster (because it is)
@@911obsessed The numbers I have read were 4.3 0-60 is 4.8 seconds and the 4.7 car is 4.6 seconds. Depends on the driver, the surface, the tires, etc. But again, is the throttle mapping the same on both cars or does the 4.7 throttle open more with less pedal travel? My 2019 Vantage has three modes. Sport, Sport+, and Track. The throttle is much quicker in Sport+ vs Sport (more throttle opening with less pedal travel) so the car definitely feels quicker. Also, 4.3 owners have reported that their cars feel faster/wakes-it-up with a tune, that quickens the throttle.
@@carterhunt9861 The numbers I posted are from Car and Driver, of course there are many variables. 3 different major publications managed almost identical numbers when the 4.3 came out, so I'd say they are fairly accurate. Yes if you apply a tune the car will feel quicker, not because of throttle mapping but because the car is making more power due to a tune... Same applies if you tune a 4.7
I drove a manual 4.3 and a sport shift 4.7. The clutch in the 4.3 manual was very heavy at 24K miles. Are they all like that? Also, I’m 6 feet tall and all torso, so my eye level is above the top of the windshield even with the seat all the way to the lowest position but I didn’t notice this in the 4.7 cabrio that I drove. Does the 4.7 also have seats that lower more cause I didn’t notice this problem until I drove the older 4.3. These cars are pure class and beauty, but I did find the 4.3 felt more lethargic than my manual 997 and less nimble. The 997 is more of a sports car and very easy to drive fast. You do feel special driving the Aston for sure though!
2006 4.3 with 8700miles manual or 2008 4.7 with 44700 miles sport shift ? Switzerland so no upgrades really available due to the local rules. Both in very good condition.
Great video mike. Personal view I've espoused for a while reflected here - If you want to work the car and the rev range more of the time in day to driving, 4.3. If you want to waft in the mid range, 4.7. Both cars are whatever speed you're driving at to illegal in a very short time. Personally I'd prefer, and have had for 5 years, 4.3. Wish I had the bilsteins though. I'm not sure what the cost is though - Mike?
Superb review as always. I think I'd be happy with the Vantage just as art, but I prefer the look of the 4.3 and I think that a higher-priced but 'minter' 4.3 would be my choice over an entry 4.7. Clutch aside, I do like the idea of keeping the car standard but suspect I would end up tempted by an increase in power.
Looking at the prices quoted I am struggling to find any sub 30k options. £25k no chance. Any advice where to look ideally a roadster around the £30k mark would be what I am looking at.
As long as you keep on top of the servicing I think you’ll be okay, my dad has a post 2008 facelift db9 and it’s served him unbelievably well. I would recommend storing the car in a garage as they seem to get very crusty around the edges when left outside, we looked at many cars before buying his current one. If you’re in the market for one he’s thinking of selling soon and I’m happy to send you though the details if you like.
@@oldschool1993 Yep, he wants a classic. He only bought the db9 to enjoy whilst be built the workshop for his classic I do see why you’d found it funny though!
Just asking...Has "this" Vantage V8 series ever been powered by AMG engines ? Possibly the AM - AMG partnership got started in 2013/2014 but I might be wrong. Thanks for any info.
Good but the first car is the same as the second. Dirty glass, same steering wheel, same seat ply on the top and same microphone on the top left on the screen! Weird!
Can't help but notice between the two cars that the 4.3L really has a much more raw exhaust note versus the 4.7L.
I believe this 4.3 has modified cats. Early 4.7 sounds pretty much exactly the same as 4.3
That's a fact. The 4.3 has the best sound!!

thinking of doing the same :)

Sir....... interesting video!!!! But I wouldn’t piss about.... I would buy the V12 vantage and be a very happy chap!!!! Ian 👨🎤🇳🇿😇
Mature, sober assessment of a very emotional car!
Great balanced review Mike, describes the differences really well
Great vid Mike . You are increasing my want for a Aston greatly every week .
was hunting for for a porsche 911 after watching this i think i will take a closer look at Aston martin thaks mike

steven mackay I seem to recall in another video that the electronic bilstein damper come out at around £3,600 fitted.
Can you pls review DBS 2010-12 vs Vanquish 2013.
What I take from this:
- if you want to do the driving - 4.3
- if you want the car to help - 4.7
Wonderful review Mike, it really helped me decide which model is for me
Great video. what can also tick all the boxes as another great GT car is the Maserati gransport.
exactly this comparison I have been looking for. Great review and very informative.

Great review thank you
can you explaine more about cats, and upgrade power on the 4,3 liter ?
BR- rough estimate on cost for 4.3 performance upgrades you mention- exhaust system, remap ECU, suspension? Thx
The 4.3 seems to sound much nicer 13:43 than the 4.7 7:06 - were you revving the 4.3 out more in the video?
Excellent and informative review as always Mike.. 👏🏻
What a comprehensive and fantastic video. Plenty of food thought there.
Looking at buying a 4.7 Vantage (2013) - Can anyone confirm whether you can fit a child car seat in this model on all seat variables?
Liked and subscribed. Very informative video. 👏 Thank you!
Superb, informative review- very useful information. Top effort! :)
They both feel slow after driving a GTR lol. But at least they are super cool looking and they have a very nice interior.
Great insight, thanks!
Both gorgeous but you have to ditch the terrible front plate mount!!!

I also try looking and its not a cheap as his "area" maybe. yup 30k is about right
How many miles will a 4.7 do if looked after?
N400 vs 4.7 would be interesting
Yep
@@maxoberg4642 Yes, I think so too! A general comparison of the Vantage special models would be interesting.
Great info Mike, does a pre-2010/11 DB9 also make a reliable daily driver?

Nope.!! Jag/Ford engines I believe…… AMG didn’t come along for years..
Great video your the best!!!
Great, great content!! Thank you.
4.3 makes the better noise? 🤔
Exhaust been changed I expect
Decisions, decisions. Which on shall I take for a drive, today?
How about Automatic, more or less power
Great review btw!
4.3 is stronger no doubt.

Check the wing mirror - different colour for both cars
You’d better watch the road vs addressing the camera every couple of seconds) however, the video is good, thanks)
£35.000 is the cheapest 4.3 currently for sale in Sweden 😢
Buy a camera mount
Great review but the sound is pretty terrible. The sound of the engine keeps popping in and out.
Why don’t I get any answers on my mails? I’ve decided to buy a Porsche now.
So, which Porsche model did you buy? Experience?
