Iverson desperately needed someone like Barkley on his team who would tell him to stop shooting so flippin much but he never had anyone. Iverson always thought his next shot was going in, no matter how badly he was playing that night.
@@ericthomas3340 I was going to suggest the exact same thing. Barkley was a much better rebounder, defender and some better low post player. Dr. J was a better ball handler, possibly outside shooter, and drive to the goal, slasher scorer. That is, if he insists on this, exact 5 players.
Man I thought for sure they were going to win the 1980 Championship. I was so up for them winning that one. I couldn't believe the Lakers were that good but they were. I hated Kareem (and Magic).
you should start history talking about Syracuse National, those ones were the original 76ers...philadelphia warriors is now Golden state warriors...not the same franchise
ruclips.net/video/kfCACtXTEmQ/видео.html Barkley: "We didn't have many plays, ... The only play was to somehow get the ball to me". (grin) It was pretty cool to watch him and Rick Mahorn play together, too bad that didn't last very long.
I have always believed that 76ers could have won more titles in 69-73 if management did not break up team prematurely. Instead, they allowed team to go from 68-13 in 1967 to 9-72 in 1973. Horrible, horrible management.
Bad luck too. Traded for Imhoff because Jackson was to play center then Jackson got injured. Then Cunningham jumped to the ABA and Greer was getting older. The only big mistake was Walker for Washington.
@@DrJohnnyJ Imhoff was a nice man, but you’re not gonna win an NBA title with him as your center, and after Luke Jackson got hurt, he was the guy. Jerry Chambers never played with Philly at all, and Archie Clarke was a journeyman who only hung around for 3 years. Philly got nothing like equal value from the Lakers, only throwing in West or Baylor too would have made it a fair trade. Jim Washington was billed as a great rebounder, but he was no Chet Walker on the offensive side of the court. Another horrible trade. And then, they let Billy Cunningham walk away to the ABA during his prime, and misused Jackson at center so he then got his terrible injury. If Philly resigned Wilt in 68, and kept the rest of the team intact by paying them like champions, they would have won at least 1 more title, and possibly 3 or 4. Greer still had some years left and was still playing at a high level in 69. I blame Jack Ramsey, Irv Kosloff, and yes, Wilt Chamberlain too, for the demise of the Sixers from 68-13 to 9-72 in 6 years. Bad luck? Yes. But also, very bad management. Contrast that with Red Auerbach, who completely rebuilt Celtics to another championship in less than 4 years after Russell retired.
ruclips.net/video/kfCACtXTEmQ/видео.html I forgot Billy Cunningham got hurt in the playoffs against Boston. That really killed us because that team had 6 great players with almost no decent players on the bench. Boston had a MUCH better bench than the 76'ers. Havlicek was the only player that played almost the whole game for them.
Wilt Chamberlain to Doctor J to Charles Barkley to Manute Bol/Shawn Bradley to Allen Iverson & Matt Geiger to Andre Iguodala & Andre Miller to Andrew Bynam and now to Jahlil Okafor!
Interesting. But as presented shouldn't it be "Philadelphia Basketball, a History"? I mean, the stuff about the Warriors----that's a totally different franchise.
Professional basketball began in Quaker City with the Warriors, who played in the NBA from 1946-62. The Warriors won two NBA titles in 1947 and 1956. Joe Fulks,Neil Johnston,Paul Arizin and Wilt Chamberlain were amongst their best. However, owner Eddie Gottlieb moved the team to San Francisco in 1962, but in 1963, Dan Biasone sold the Syracuse Nationals, who won the 1955 NBA Championship, to a group led by Ike Richman in Philadelphia and were renamed the 76ers.
ruclips.net/video/kfCACtXTEmQ/видео.html When Dr J mentions how bad the chemistry was on this team, I'm pretty sure he was talking about George McGinnis. I have no way to prove that but McGinnis was the only significant player they got rid of prior to winning the championship. 2 + 2 usually equals 4
@@DrJohnnyJ What does that have to do with trying to figure out who was the cause of the "bad chemistry" ?? McGinnis would go into the locker room and smoke at halftime.
ruclips.net/video/kfCACtXTEmQ/видео.html It's annoying that Julius Irving would talk about the horrible team chemistry without explaining what he was talking about. I suspect it had something to do with George McGinnins who was a jerk, but I could be wrong.
The GOAT Wilton Norman Chamberlin.
Excellent, I am from, Philly, born in 1958, I lived through all of this. Even shot my free throws as a jumper, like Hal. Well, done video!
Neil Johnston was my favorite Warrior.. huge fan of the hook shot and he's among the greatest of all time with that shot

RIP Double D and Moses, from a true ABA Fan...yes, ABA!!
King Bee wilt?
Miss Darryl dunken, very underated basketball player, love watching him play, i hear very funny m
Things are looking up for the Sixers again, there's loads of talent on their roster
Much Gratitude
Wilt looks almost exactly the same as he did in the 60's. although this was made in 2005 he really hasn't aged much
Uh...Wilt died in 1999, Null...
King Bee really ? Wilt die in 99 i just know by now lol

Bobby Reza I'd switch Barkley to SF and Dr J to SG. Doc played SG his last couple of years.
Barkley was never a SG. That wouldn't even make any sense. You just have to leave either him or Moses out.
