A cluttered bench produces a cluttered mind. Someone needs to tell some of the contestants that when they start dithering.

I would love to try Fritz's hamburger, but the French Toast turned me off (I'm not one for altering tried & true.)---Fritz, with a smile "Well, at least it's bread!"---
All he did was add toppings. Nothing off-putting or wildly changing the basic French toast. Food would be very boring if adaptations weren't made to basic recipes.

Why do the judges keep bothering the contestants, when they know they are pressed for time?
The winner is going to be cooking on a live daytime TV show. Making sure they don’t lose their cool when people are bothering them is an important requirement.
Watch other cooking competitions and you'll see its a very common trait. It's just how it is.
