Good morning Kenny. A great teacing video on the EVAP system. Thank you!
Do not overfill the tank, when it clicks that's it. If you do, gas will fill into the charcoal canister and ruin it. You filled it properly that is why it did not stall on you.
That was my thought as well.
An easy way to test purge valve is let engine cool off well below operating temp, with key off disconnect supply hose from canister at the purge valve, have helper start engine and if purge valve is sucking in from supply side(you can feel with your finger) it is bad. Purge valve should never be commanded open on a start up. Yes, packing the tank with fuel can saturate the canister, but unless an extreme case, instructing customer on filling tank properly after several drive cycles it should clear up. I would change the purge valve first and drive without packing tank and see if clears up, then replace canister if needed. Even if it damages the new valve, its inexpensive compared to labor and canister. Just a thought, great video, keep it up.
Look at those trees, doing the color change with seasons. You'll have to excuse my comments as I live in the desert and we don't see that here lol. Up in the northern part of the state there's a bit of a change but we don't go up north much so we don't get to see it. We did the Sick66 drag n drive last month and the leaves were just starting to change in Missouri and Oklahoma. A friend had one of those Ford trucks for a short time until he started reading about all the issues they have and promptly traded it in....
Love my capless. Makes my truck smell like a truck! Man!
fords are notorious for purge valves in that era. when you fill up wait as if you went in for a coffee then it will have time for the vapors to flood the intake. wifes car did that. if you jump in and go as fast as you can after filling it would stumble but not stall. if it is the charcoal canister flush all the lines especially the purge line. if not its a guaranteed comeback.
Nothing like ford quality job 1
Another youtube mechanic did a video where the vehicle has similar problems cause by an owner who insisted on stuffing all the fuel in they could fit.
Ask if they multi click pump handle,it's a no,no.good job.
Exactly! Only problem is if you get a bad pump handle, it happens.
Had hard start on 2011 GMC Acadia after fill up. Put in choke unload and would start. Purge solenoid bad
Would think Ford would do a recall on those sheety purge valves. FoMoCo's is cheaper than aftermarket due to the quantity going over their parts counter.
my car worried me the other day not sure what caused it, replaced spark plug as thats all the money I had to do anything with at the time. But I was going 82 heading to a off ramp and I turned off cruise control and put it in nuetral and all of a sudden the car started to sputter and the engine light started flashing, I checked the code and it was for cylinder 4 misfire, I changed that spark plug and it has not happened since but I highly doubt it was spark plug they were relativley new spark plugs, the car does burn a lot of oil so maybe it got on the spark plug during the deacceleration? Its a kia soul with 261k miles on it 6 speed manual
Pulling the gas tank to put in a new evap canister?
not that I'm aware of.
I think its just below the gas tank if I remember correctly.
I know exactly what's going on.
The purge valve test told everything i needed to know.
They fill up the tank to the click every time. Then fill it more a few times.
I've seen it multiple times, this exact issue on multiple different vehicles.
The charcoal system is full of fuel.
You can replicate the issue by filling the tank and then keep filling it multiple times after the click.
Exactly
something I have routinely done for the past 5 years, and I mean I fill it sometimes untilk its coming out of the damn tank, not anymore, did not know this. Hopefully not perm damage already

You likely have, but reducing the behavior can extend the remaining life of the charcoal canister before it completely clogs in some way.
Either way, i hope you don't have to worry about it until much much later.
(Edit)
Btw, carry some fuel cans and fill them instead of overfilling the tank if you want to carry more fuel.(non-ethanol preferably if you want to keep it a while.)
Small investment, and you shouldn't be stuck somewhere without fuel often.
@@kairu_aname do gasoline engines have this canister too?
@@adairjanney7109
Typically, yes.
Common issue with fords from that time. It is really bad with the turbo ecoboost. The focus STs actually have recalls on the system from the fuel tanks imploding. The check valve for the purge goes bad causing the purge valve to leak. It causes the evap canister to get filled with fuel, and implodes the fuel tank. The check valve ford uses is not rated for the turbo's boost pressure.
filling the tank till gas spills out will saturate the charcoal canister causing fuel to be sucked. always fill till nozzle shuts off and drive.
I hate the fuel door cover on my 2014 F150 ( breaks every 2-3 years they charge $95 and I can get one from Amazon for $40 and do it myself) and I don’t like the capless fill port. Most things I liked about my reliable 2014.
i got a scion xb , overheats on highway. i seemed to overfill the tranny. ill find out if that solves the problem . is that a thing?
what engine is this???
The worst thing you can do to destroy a purge valve ! Overfill the fuel tank ! But ive also seen bad pressure regulators do the same thing
Fuel vent filter is plugged. Dodgers were terrible for that.
After changing the filter, I realized that the airbox for the evaporation filtration was still plugged so I took it off, blew it up with air hose
Not too easy to get out, but get me done
Just one truck to save your money I said trick
I would not have a vehicle with a capless tank, asking for trouble
Street driven vehicles are not like NASCAR packing that extra fuel to finish the race. Stop fueling when it clicks the nozzle off. I messed up a 1998 Camry like that over time. It wasn't cheap and lesson learned.
Y the way, how is your wife doing?
it has been a problem when they came off the line........Ford quality......
there is a better fix then replace the can and valve... SELL IT ... get a old SQ body chevy... DONE ...
lol
