    I've heard that beavers are a huge contributor to forming marsh landscapes which causes a lot of life to flourish over a large area, despite their reputation of being "ruinous." Evidently, Idaho, in the United States, actually nearly annihilated their beaver population and the nature biome began to suffer. Eventually, they realized that beavers were critical to the ecosystem of the area and by reintroducing them, they could bring about balance. They loaded over 70 beavers onto an airplane and paradropped them over the Idaho wilds and, supposedly, there was only a single beaver casualty. There's quite an interesting documentary on it and a good amount of articles because of the novelty of the paradropping beavers. Anyway - interesting tidbit - one of the few animals to have been air-dropped and parachuted.

    Putting water in a PZ exhibit is like trying to put an image in a word document.

    River Rock Zoo will always be the quintessential classic woodlands type zoo for me, a reference point to return to for inspiration and ideas.

    "I realized how large I had actually made the habitat" every planet zoo player the second they get something into a build that accurately conveys scale. I've started just leaving a 4x4 wall piece in the middle of my builds at all times so I can remember oh right, that's FOUR METERS,
    also, I never knew until today that beavers had orange teeth! I thought that was only nutrias; I grew up in a place that had a huge (invasive) population of nutrias so I'm way more familiar with them. It makes sense that it's a trait the two would share.

    Hi Savannah, bit late to the video, but constantly growing teeth evolved due to an evolutionary arms race between grazing animals, and grass. In order to stop being eaten, grass evolved to contain silicone, which would grind down the teeth of grazing animals and wear them away to nothing. To combat this, grazing animals evolved to grow their teeth continuously so they could continue to eat grass!

    Fun fact: house cats also have a clear eyelid, but it doesn't work like a beaver's, obviously. You can typically only see them as the cat is falling asleep or waking up, or if it is inflamed due to injury or infection.

    It's always so exciting to wake up and see a new video from you. Absolutely loved this build! If you're still looking for inspiration for the next habitat, maybe a little skunk house/yard? I feel like that's a good early 'small ticket' species, and it would be neat to hear your thoughts since you're someone who's worked with skunks personally before!

    • @SimplySavannahYT
      @SimplySavannahYT  Год назад +3

      Oh I agree! Maybe skunk, fox, and something else north American to make up some small exhibits along the path?

    • @menagerie11
      @menagerie11 Год назад

      @@SimplySavannahYT Oh, for sure! That would be very thematic. Maybe the prairie dogs as the third option? I feel like they provide a nice species contrast as fellow rodents of beavers (who also have big impacts on their environment) and the natural prey of foxes.
      I can imagine a little education waystation/s in the area, if you felt so inclined! Keen to see what's next for River Rock.

      Entrances are really difficult! I'd try googling specific zoo entrances like the San Diego Zoo, The Dallas Zoo, or Pheonix Zoo. You can also view zoos on Google maps to see the layout from a top down view! Hope this helps!

      @@1CrazyEquestrian I also like to look at entrances or zoos on the steam workshop, download them, and take screenshots while I'm exploring them. It's super helpful for inspiration!
