In this video you will get some knowledge, and hopefully some entertainment. I talked with Chris about shooting a video and he was on board from the start. Knowing that Chris is passionate about what he does, I knew this video was going to come out well. Chris has been in the pool industry for years and particularly enjoys working on the pools foundation. Tile cleaning is Chris's most favorite work to do with pools. But do not let that fool you he does an awesome job at acid washing as well. Again, I hope that you enjoy this video and get some info out of it as well.
The steps
The steps needed to acid wash a pool are few, but very specific. Draining the pool is the first step. Chris dropped the drain in the pool the day before so that it would be ready for us on the day of the shoot. Chris explained that it is VERY important to set up the drain so that the water and acid are kicked into the sewer lines. There should be now water discharged onto the customer property. Putting it down the street is not ok either. Do this safely.
Your solution
Chris used a 75/25 split of acid and water. Meaning 75% of the solution mixed into one batch was acid and 25% is water. This is a heavy acid mixture, but the pool needed it. Chris explained that the acid needed to be higher in this pool because the calcium and staining on the pools foundation was heavy. Chris goes on to explain that in order to pull off a good acid wash, the solution must stay consistent through out the entire pool. He made sure of this by mixing his solution in multiple pails before he started.
The work
This is pretty basic but takes a good eye to make sure it comes out well. You want to start by pouring the acid solution starting at the top and letting it run down the wall of the pool. While the solution is on the wall you will want to scrub it into the surface of the pool. This is where you want to make sure you blend the foundation to avoid streaking. Wash the acid off after you are done scrubbing it in. Make sure not to leave this on the pool for very long. Complete this process around the entire pool until completed.

If you use white n brite from bio-dex it thickens the solution and allows it to cling to the walls longer. I use it on all mine as well as the stain off it helps pull out some of the metals. Haven't used a pressure washer first but I will give it a try on the next one. Thanks for the tips.
Joe Perry you bet. I’ve heard about doing it with the bio dex but I haven’t used it or seen it been done. It works well huh?
Yeah it works for me I've also noticed it helps keeps the fumes down. I want to start tile blasting soon any recommendations on blast media and what kind of compressor?
Thanks,
Joe@@PoolRescuers
Joe Perry I have a video coming out next week on how to set up a tile rig. I’ll answer your questions in it
Right on thanks man@@PoolRescuers
Joe Perry you got it man. Keep in touch
Any tips on how to properly roll up a vacuum hose for a fellow pool tech? Stupid question but I'm completely "green" or new to the industry
Soundtrack hits
i need that spray gun
I’m curious to know about the process for safely draining the pool first. Specifically, do I have to pop the drain plugs from the floor or can I leave them in? Worried about the hydrostatic pressure...but...how do I know if that’s really a risk factor for my pool? Thank you!
Gary Fritter that’s all great questions. What type of pool do you have? Sounds like maybe fiber glass?
Homeowner should have gone with a quartz plaster. That stuff can be buffed out and last 2-3 times longer than your “marble” plaster.
Nice professional video, thanks
JT thank you. Glad you think so.
No safety glasses? Asked the blind man....
More of a advertisement for himself, than an instructural video for the DIY.
Loved the music and also Love to see you guys are wearing protective equipment I watch so many videos that people do not wear any of that stuff which is crazy because you’re working with acid !! (hello)
Dawn Lee yeah no kidding! Thank you. Glad you appreciate that.
I wish you had explained what kind of acid you're using and where to buy it. It's not listed above in the supply list.
Luann Feld muratic acid. You can find it at Home Depot Lowe’s Walmart. The good stuff is at your local pool store.
Great video.....
Quick question, did he cancel the acid once it made it way to the deep end of pool? Or did he just discard it ?
Jorge Melendez it’s a good idea to throw soda ash in deep end to neutralize it
Well thank you
At what point do you decide it needs an acid wash vs a chlorine wash, the only issue I with what they were doing was they has no eye protection on, dealing with concentrations and quantities of Acid like that is sooooo dangerous even if a small splash gets in your eyes.
You are 100% correct. This was a run and gun and we ill make sure to promote that moving forward
@@PoolRescuers Mate, I like your videos, no loud obnoxious music drowning out your voice, you speak very clear and concise and not afraid to give out good advice, you really should have more subs than what you currently have, keep up the great videos
Zane H thank you. Oh man we aren’t even getting started yet. I have a lot coming out I’m super excited to show you all. Keep in touch. Honestly thank you for your feed back
@@PoolRescuers Are you going to some on site videos, to show what you come across and how you go about fixing it ?, hope so but be prepared for those couch potato know it all's to say how you did everything wrong 🤣🤣👍👍😁😁
This is a very good question that still was not answered.
In Canada Toronto Ontario we use dish soap to help neutralize the fumes Metal up Buttercup.
How much does that service typical cost? Range
Jeff Findlay between $400-$600
Get rid of THE BLARING MUSIC. It detracts greatly from your video. Otherwise good info here.
Good video. But the bromance slow-mo's and the extra talking takes a lot from the teachable opportunity.
Seen a lot of other informative videos in the past. This is a whole lot of nothing.
8:22....Holy dam how deep is that pool
Muratic acid in a pool acid wash is done to remove streaking stains and etching in the surface however if done wrong acid can cause streaking stains and etching
Go figure
Hey mate. Can I use hydrochlorice acid instead of muratic acid?
@@tobs9676 absolutely!! Muratic acid is diluted hydrochloric. Just if your gonna use a more stronger hydrochloric concentration make sure it is diluted and that it is not left on too long without rinsing. And if your surface is older than 6 or 7 years. I would recommended just resurfacing
The surface is older then 10 years but still in reasonable good condition. Would you recommend a lower dosage or not treating at all?
@@tobs9676 is it a basic plastic surface or is there an aggregate?
Basic plaster surface not plastic. Haha
no eye protection pouring acid
freethinker52 yeah should have had that on
Keep the videos coming
GOING NOWHERE I have a few in the pipe line. Pushing them out as fast as I can. Hope you like them
No, keep the videos to yourself.
Yea this is good shit

Oh yeah I put a video of my pool service truck and I have my pool cart it’s only a 1 minute video
GOING NOWHERE looks good man. Nice and clean. I sub’d to your channel so I can see what’s next. Have a good one and thanks for sharing
BIO DEX 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Superior pools Service 1 im going to do another acid wash video in the future and will make sure we use it
No soda ash just let the the acid eat away at the pool. No glasses. Hopefully you learn what not to do with these clowns. Lol!
Leanaki Le id love to see your instruction video on how to acid wash a pool.... thanks for watching
