The Papaya circle ensures the plants get the two things they most need - water and fertiliser. A design element of permaculture, it can be used for bananas as well. Simple to dig, and easy to maintain they also double up as local compost bins. Learn how to make one, and get an abundant harvest of Papaya.

Papaya circle - logically the most acceptable method of papaya cultivation. I have watched more than 250 videos on you tube in past, but was unsatisfied. No amount of words are enough to express my gratitude. Similarly is your Tomato plants.
The patience in acquiring and providing details is truly appreciable.
Just my thought : The video could do without the BGM. It's great to hear the birds, leaves ruffling.
Thanks for the tips!
you add a jug full of ? couldn't hear that very well !...thanks
Usefull for a greenhorn like me. Thanks !

It is soooo good to see you! This video is very informative. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Great information
I love watching your videos, it is so lush and green where you are. You have inspired me ! It is spring, where I am and everything is buzzing and I am outside giving my food plants a talking to !
Love that!
Super akka👍
A huge fan of yours.

Hi, can you please tell how big a circle should be for growing 6- 8 papaya plants .
Appreciated.
thanks
My experience with Papaya is different. When I planted them together, disease in one quickly spread to all and were lost. They survived when planted away from each other.
Of course they need more nutrient and moisture
Nice.informative
Glad you think so!

Your videos really help me.can we make same circles for lemon
No.
Thank you so much for the very informative videos. Could you please give information about the variety of papaya that is being planted in your farm. It would be greatly helpful. Thanks again
Desi Papaya with seeds. Don't know more about it
👍
Amazing! Do you break off the lower leaves?
Only if they are brown and drying.
Very cool. I just built a papaya circle but my pit is much wider than yours (6 ft). Makes me think I made them too wide and am wasting space.
dont worry. use the space in between for shade loving plants like turmeric, ginger, taro. Legumes like pigeon-pea too can be planted which will provide nitrogen
do you have any bee hives on your farm.??
i also have a papaya circle but i have to manually pollinate ,, as if i dont they wont keep fruit....
🙏🏾
You done a great job Mam.
How many plants in the circle and what about distance between plant 2 plant.
5 plants to a circle spread evenly. The diameter of the circle should be 3 to 4 feet
Good work,nice 😄 , I am Ranveer Singh
What an IDEA Madam ji. Thanks for your idea. What can be the circle diameter and spacing of plants? Please throw some light on that too.
Very good question, we will soon make a video on all the dimensions and how you can make one!
The diameter is 3 to 4 feet. The 5 papaya plants are spaced equidistantly in a circle.
@@farmaanandaa Thank you so much for your quick guidance.
Very helpful information. Most of the papaya plants in my compound have got a disease which makes their leaves discolored and shriveled. Can you help?
Try spraying khatti lassi solution.
I really enjoyed the informative video. I was wondering if you could provide more information about the name and how you make the liquid fertilizer that you mentioned adding to the pit to help with fertilization and composting of the materials. Also do you feel using the pit as a grey water mulch bed from a sink would be enough or too much water if run into a deep wood mulch at the bottom of the pit?
You'll find a full video on How to make Jeevamrut on our channel.
Regarding your second question, it will depend on how many dishes you wash in your kitchen. Best to get started and make adjustments if need be
Just a thought, you'd told about the banana circles some videos back. I wonder if we could intercrop bananas with papaya or do you think they'll take up too much nutrients ?
Thank you and again hats off to R&I for the amazing video.
Bananas keep producing new suckers, so it won't be advisable to plant papayas and bananas in the same circle
you can try a mix like 2 banana + 2 papaya. transplant the new suckers to new circles. use in between space for turmeric , ginger , taro , pigeon pea
very good one, going to try What is the dia of the circle?
About 3 feet
*Please increase frequency of your informative videos....🙏*
We try our best to publish once a week. Do keep watching and supporting our videos.
nice
Thanks
Can we grow Cannabis there
Please make a video on how you do waste management in your farm and how you recycle plastics if any :) BTW love your farm :)
We don't use any plastics, as for waste management, we do composting as mentioned in this video!
Is all desi papitha?
Do you water the base of the pit, or that is also not required? Btw nice video, thanks for uploading.
We do water the base of the pit. The beauty of this circle is that we can water in 1 hole and 5-6 trees get watered together. Thanks for watching
Hi mam, thanks for the info.
I have doubt , what is the spacing between 2 circles if planted parallel to each other r next to each other
You can make them side by side.
Mam,is there any drip irrigation in your farm to save water? That's very usefull in summer times,we are already using that in our mango, lemon and sapota farms
No we don't have drip irrigation. We mulch heavily instead.
Do you provide with training regards to permaculture for new comers
Pls check out www.aanandaa.com
good video. it is better if you explain little more about the compost or organic fertilizer .
We will do so in subsequent videos
My papaya trees grow really well and fruit well too but the die before the fruits can ripen....I am left with raw papaya to cook and haven't been able to enjoy the sweet ripe fruit... Do u have any idea what might have gonw wrong?
When you say it grows well, you mean tall or strong?
I've been trying to grow papayas at my farm near Ahmedabad, but have been unsuccessful in getting the seeds germinate.
Could you help me understand the best time to sow seeds?
Also, how large should the pit be for the circle (both diameter and depth wise)? Would love to try this out since many recommend papaya plants to be planted atleast 4/5 feet apart.
Sow the seeds in Feb within seedling trays. Once they are a few inches tall, transfer to small nursery bags. Keep them there till they are 12 -15 inches tall. Transfer them into the ground in July.
And if Im going to make do papaya circle for an acre what are pest control precautions should I follow. Please explain it
An acre of Papayas is a monoculture. And a monoculture will always attract pests. It's best to integrate many species together, Papaya being one of them
what is the distance between edge of pit and papaya plant ??!!
6 inches
Nice information.. .😍..can we grow papaya in a grow bag?? If yes what size do you recommend?🤔

Superb innovative idea . It also will increase yield. Do you have both male and female plants in the circle ?
When we plant them we don't know if they are male or female. Once they start flowering we identify them and remove the male plants.
Oh really . Actually you shouldn’t be removing males it helps in increasing pollination and hence contributes to a more resilient species this is what my view is . It also acts as good raw material for bees Sorry might be wrong . But just sharing my view
We keep a few, but not all.
Great that’s nice 👍🏻
manisha replies to positive feedbacks only , I guess
What question have you asked? Kindly repeat it.
What else can we grow besides papaya and banana because my family doesn’t like these fruits much
You can grow anything. But not in a papaya circle like this.
Thanks much mam. Wll surely implement this 👍. Could you please tell us is that a local variety or hybrid one? Also wats the spacing between the saplings. Thanks
5.plants spaced equally around a circle of 3 to 4 feet diameter
@@farmaanandaa can we increase the diameter and increase the quantity of the saplings.
Maybe just a little.. only if you need to ..
@@farmaanandaa thank you so much for such a quick reply. Will keep on following you. Thanks for the effort n time 😃☺
Mam papya leves are curling in my garden. Could you please provide solution for it.
Nice but how many we can plant in one circle? If I put 5/6, will not it have trouble getting sufficient sunlight? In normal papaya plantation PPL follow 8/10 planting distance. Plz help me clarifying the doubt
You can adjust for sunlight and width of the pit. But 4 to 5 can grow easily as they are not all at the same level
Can I visit your heavenly farm. . For inspiration and observations
Please email us at hello@aanandaa.com to find out more details about visiting!
@@farmaanandaa : Thanks a ton !!
your idea is great
but, a normal papaya graph is 9 ft x 9 ft (as known to me)
the pit in between is just 3 ft,
and over & above, you have planted 5 to 6 saplings
interlocking of leaf may damage plant and they may catch fungus or develop leaf curve
plz update us on this after an year or may be 1 1/2 years down the line
If you had watched the full video, you would see a papaya circle after 1 year and how many fruits it is yielding, completely healthy.
@@farmaanandaa ya, i did show complete video, its a great idea, need to practice.
keep doing good work, keep sharing
Why in permaclutur raised bed made
Do watch the video on raised beds!
Can u guide me on making compost madam, pls share ur ideas
I don't specifically make compost. The papaya circle pits act as compost factories for us
4.ft circle how much
depth - bed width-how many plants in circle - pls suggest
3 to 4 feet diameter. 5 plants spaced equally
Thanks, please put the link from seeds to saplings

Dear mam, what is the interval between one papaya circle to another?!
They can be just a few feet apart
Is the papaya hybrid or heirloom variety?
Desi

Hi! Do all papaya trees carry fruit? I've heard that only female and hermaphrodites plants carry fruit. Is this true?
You are right. Do see our other video about Papayas on this channel

Dear ma'am please make a video on how to grow a papaya tree in a container because I have no land and want to grow fruit trees on my terrace. Regards
We have never really done that, so wouldnt be able to make a video on it. Please search up Im sure you'll find what you are looking for.
Madam, have u experienced storm!?. Are these papayas strong enough!?..Pls reply
We experience storms often. Papaya roots are very strong, as they have to go deep into the pit to seek their water (unlike papayas watered through drip irrigation, where the roots become lazy and remain weak).
Very well...
Is there any way to find out if the sapling is male or female when growing from seeds? my mum and i tried few times to grow from seeds but the saplings eventually turn out to be male most of the times.
Unfortunately not!
Mai ek din aaunga ,mai ek din aaunga .........
what do you do when your papaya trees are infected by the virus
We spray rotten butter milk.
But...are these papaya plants grown from indigenous seeds?
Yes they are. 100% organic.
Mam pls tell us about your farm location to see
