    If I may, I’m going to insert a word, to be said in the drag queen Tatiana’s voice: “Choices”. Absolutely love it. I think the bit I love best about your videos is the utter shade and sarcasm. You also make me feel a lot better about my own sewing errors and skipping important steps (that turn out to be most important later on 😂)

    Colonel Mustard in the Hall with the Wrench? I may be too ADHD for this series. 😂

    • @StephanieCanada
      @StephanieCanada  4 года назад +1

      The instructions in older patterns come along with a bit of "understood" knowledge (some of which I have, some of which I don't). So yes, they take an extra bit to figure out for sure! And thank you so much!

  • @RebeccaTreeseed
    @RebeccaTreeseed 10 месяцев назад

    Watching you adjust every pattern is interesting. Pattern or readymade, I have to adjust everything. I dropped 2 sizes and decided to make my new clothes, they will fit much better. Nothing straightforward because I thrift all parts. I have accumulated enough parts to get started, yay!
    Quilting does compete for time. Oh yeah cross stitch too. At least gardening isn't competing at the moment.

    Do you have any thoughts on if one tried to turn Flappy Bits like that into pockets?
    I'd want to place them over the hip bones - as you mentioned. And obviously they'd only really be good for flat things like a phone or thin wallet.
    I'm thinking a heavier interfacing, probably on the front, so you don't see the outline of whatever is in the pocket, you just get a bit of a bulge.
    I guess my concern, is if there's weight in there, that when you sit down, they're going to flip to the side and fall off of the thighs. I guess that could be rectified by tacking the point down to the skirt? But, that unfortunately means I can't make a belt and Flappy Bits as separate pockets which could be used with multiple pocket-less skirts. Safety pins?
    Ultimately I'm just going to have to try it. But any insights, are appreciated.

    • @StephanieCanada
      @StephanieCanada  3 года назад +3

      Honestly, I would use the flappy bits to hide the pocket. I would create new slots directly underneath them and use them as a “door to Narnia” situation instead.

    • @lynn858
      @lynn858 3 года назад +1

       @Stephanie Canada *Blinking* Well that's a solid idea that hadn't occurred to me.
      And, apparently, far closer to how the 1917 Ladies 3 or 4 piece skirt is done. Having only looked at the line drawing, I hadn't realized the line down the center is actually a pocket slit. So THOSE flappy bit pockets (which it isn't apparent in the line drawing even are pockets) didn't even work the way I was imagining.
      I guess I can't use "I need more information" as an excuse anymore. :)

    Oh I just found you. Been binge watching. You totally sew exactly like I do. You have great intentions of doing it perfectly. Then oops. This isn’t matching. How do I do that? Ah, I’m just gonna do what I want. My seam ripper is my friend.

    This will probably be a dumb question but are all the patterns from the 1940’s unprinted? And when did the pattern companies begin to print on them?

    • @StephanieCanada
      @StephanieCanada  3 года назад +3

      Not a dumb question at all. Unprinted patterns were the standard until about the 1950’s. This is primarily because McCall had patented the printing process in the US and no one else could use it as he guarded it fiercely. Most companies were able to start printing on their tissue in the 1940’s so you start to see Simplicity adopt it first and the rest quickly follow suit.
