As a British Pole I condemn this attack on the Russian ambassador. I would hate to see a Polish ambassador treated similarly.

This was ridiculous. In a democracy people can protest! But attacking (even with paints) is not helping any situation. If we’re protesting in democratic countries with violence who is saying that in a certain situation violence is ok but in another it’s not?

Behavior of the ambassador and his protection indicates that the situation was controlled from both sides by Russia, otherwise the security could not be sure that he would not be really attacked.

This should not happen but... he was waiting for something like this. His own security did not react. Normal reaction is trying to duck or cover. He was fully aware that something like this may occur. And it shows how he was posing after the fact. Look - compare that what is happening in Ukraine this is nothing. And as for polish diplomats in USSR - they are always in danger and need to expect anything since 1990s.

His tribute was a provocation and the incident was simply second part of the same operation. Take a closer look at his bodyguards, first they're very close to the ambassador and then when a man with Ukrainian flag on shoulders approaches, they make room for him to get closer. Secondly, ambassador is not startled at all when hit by paint, stone face, means he was expecting this.
You have to also remember that RuSSia sees Poland as their immediate zone of influence, they simply think we belong to them. I don't pity him at all. How would you greet Joachim von Ribbentropp if he'll come to your town to pay tribute to his fallen soldiers?

It was an own goal. Achieved nothing and played into the hands of Russian propaganda. All the talking about supposed "criminality" of the act or the status of the diplomatic core are quite frankly irrelevant and miss the point.

This Ukrainian journalist should be punished so that no more such thing happens on our soil. The foreigners will not do what they want in our country. It doesn't matter if it's about Russians, Ukrainians or Hawaiians. Such things shouldn't happen.

I absolutely agree with your reading of the situation. The whole thing borders on mob rule and displays complete disregard for the host country. The jurnalust/ activist who animated this mob and claimed the responsibility for it should be promptly expelled from PL. Furthermore, it took place in a Soviet WW2 cemetery and I am sure many of the graves there are the final resting place of Ukrainians who served in the red army. Such disrespectful attitude towards the dead is imho characteristic of the Soviet culture and absolutely inconsistent with Polish tradition.

I am British Polish and I don't condemn crowd behaviour. The ambassador was told by Polish ministers and Warsaw President that his celebration of the victory in WW2 is not adviced and would provoke reaction from the public due to Russians behaviour in Ukraine.
The ambassador behaviour was insolent. He deserved what he got.
    God bless Ukraine🇵🇱🇬🇧❤

No Irena, you are wrong. This ukrainian provocation can be costly for Polish state. Poland like any other country should protect foreign officials as this is their duty. Now look what happened with Polish ambasy in Moscow. Think next time.

It doesn't matter what ambassador it was. This should have never happened! The ukrainian "journalist" who did this, should be arrested immediately. This is a criminal act by the law, ambassadors of any country should feel safe, period. Not only this is embarrassment of polish authorities, but also this puts Poland in dangerous position. This ukrainian woman is a guest in our country from some time, long before the war started and it was not spontanious behaviour. She is known for other political acts she did before.
What kind of explaining is this, that it was a provocation of russian ambassador? If polish ambassador goes to Smolensk or Katyn to commemorate polish victims of war crimes it will also be called a provocation now?

This is a total disgrace of the Polish government if a bunch of refugee women and children can so easily take over government and dictate the law in the country. The message is loud and clear, Poland is unable to provide security for the handful diplomats residing in Poland. It is unbelievable that the same refugees closed the border with Belarus.
