Thank you for another great video! It seems that since the last Chrome update, it's not possible to download Migaku Legacy anymore. On the Migaku Legacy page in the Chrome Web Store, the "Download" button is grayed out, and the following message appears: "This extension is no longer available because it doesn't follow best practices for Chrome extensions." Is there another way to download the legacy version?
Hey, I just checked on another computer and the download button isn't grayed out. If I were to guess why it's grayed out for you, perhaps you already have it installed but it's disabled? Open a new tab and go to chrome://extensions to see if it's there 🤔 Also, the reason it has that alert is explained in this video: ruclips.net/video/TGV1GrZlTvg/видео.html
@@JouzuJuls Thank you for your reply Jouzu! I double checked but it's not installed. Interestingly, on my Windows PC I am still able to download and use the Legacy version, but not on my Mac. My guess is that they are slowly phasing out the extensions that only work with Manifesto v2, and somehow the Migaku Legacy was phased out on the MacOS version of Chrome first. I would be curious to know if someone else using Chrome's most recent version on MacOS has the same issue.
one question that I have about immersion, right now I'm trying to understand as much as possible from every phrase that I encounter while immersing but I feel that this strategy might not be the best one as I end up spending something around 3~4h on 30min episodes. Should I just keep doing what I'm doing or there is a better method? This is a doubt that I'm having for some time
This is the primary reason against immersion before having a solid foundation of vocabulary/grammar. Starting immersing when you already have a grasp of all beginner/lower-intermediate grammar points and a few thousand words + kanji down makes content mostly comprehensible and not as painful to get through
I keep getting this pop-up when trying to install the Frequency List: "The frequency list you are trying to install is not the correct format needed for the currently selected language" Anyone got a fix?
@@JouzuJuls I'm also getting the same error and I've definitely extracted the files correctly - Migaku keeps rejecting the format. Any ideas? I'm on a mac if that makes a difference
@@joe.crockett Mac or Window shouldn't make a difference. Double check that on the bottom left corner, Japanese is indeed selected (you should see a Japanese flag). If choosing both the index.json and the term_meta_bank_1.json doesn't work Try them one at a time, perhaps you only need to put one in and not both. That's all I can think of at the moment. Unless everybody who has this issue happens to be on Mac, I don't think it's a Mac problem.
@@JouzuJuls I am experiencing this issue as well and I believe its because the files are not extracting properly. I went to the google drive page and just downloaded all the files, to which they were then added to my file explorer in one big zip package with the other packages; but when I right clicked the files they didnt give me the option to open them with WinRAR? But i was able to select the whole file package and open it. And even though i selected the specific file package in WinRAR and told it to export the files to a new location, Migaku still wouldnt accept them. Is there something wrong im doing in the google drive page? I am just supposed to download all the zip packages right?
What do you do against duplicates in your Anki deck when mining with Migaku? I often see the same words again (in different episodes of an anime for example). I can't keep up that fast with my cards at the time so they just get imported into the deck again. Is there some tool to prevent this?
@triloba42 Assuming you've watched section 8a2 of the ultimate mining guide: ruclips.net/video/PAUYnp5wOE0/видео.html&si=rbnxaMGnR5lhocG3 There are 3 solutions you could try: 1. Review the cards and reimport Anki database after every mine (I don't recommend because it's tedious) 2. Just ignore the fact that duplicates are being created, then use Anki's built in Duplicate remover to remove them after (good method) 3. Before mining the next episode, go to the episode you just mined and filter by Unique 1T (or whatever filter you used to create the cards), then mark all the cards you created as "2" (following the ultimate mining guide) Out of all of these, method 2 seems like it'd be the least hassle, however you'd also have less 1T since that's still marked unknown during the mining process. Not a big problem since you can re-mine it again for different words once all your reviews are done.
@@Endsies There are many free tools that can do *parts* of what Migaku can do, but there is no tool that can automatically batch create cards into Anki based on your existing known words.
Very unlikely they are prioritizing developing a port of the extension to a browser people barely use. Install a portable version of Chromium or ungoogled chromium just so you can use migaku. Yomitan and asb player, alternatives to migaku, have a Firefox version, altho asb on Firefox has only part of the functionalities of the Chrome version.
@@crispi8809 don't worry about it, the mining guide will cover plenty of alternatives that are free. Of course if you get Migaku, it'd be much faster and easier to make cards and track your progress from a variety of sources But it's not impossible without it!

I love migaku. It helped me go from 2.3k known words (which I learned in 6 years) to 4.5k known words in just 6 months!
Migaku released AI subtitle generation yesterday and it's honestly quite good
Finally made me switch to the new version
I’m about to finish the Core 2.3k so I’m excited to start sentence mining. Perfect timing.
