the "Nether" lands one is hilarious when you know "netherlands" is just dutch for "lowlands", It's about as accurately descriptive as you can get!
In Germany we also say "Niederlande" which you can translate into Lowland

The thing about Iceland and Greenland. If you wonder why they are named as they are today. The guy who named Iceland and Greenland arrived to Iceland during winter named the island Iceland because there is a lot of ice and snow in the winter (I don't know the whole story of Iceland). Later another guy arrived to Greenland during the summer. Greenlander live on the coasts of Greenland. You should see the land during the summer. so green and beautiful.
Norway isn't exactly in shortage of neither ice nor green. When they discovered Iceland, they didn't see winter for the first time. Also, after 6 months of winter, Norway is intensely green. So this was not a new colour to experience. The names were gimmicks to discourage travels to Iceland and lure settlers to Greenland.
When the Norwegians came to Iceland, they didn't want anyone else to follow. Reason was they wanted to be free, and Norway becoming a kingdom with taxes and harsh rulers. Naming it Iceland only delayed the inevitable, though, falling under the Norwegian rulers. The name stuck.
Greenland was the opposite. Norwegians wanted an active colony there, so they gave it an attractive name. The economy was booming as long as they could harvest walrus tusks for a living (ivory was very lucrative). However, not well suited for farming led to the colonies wither and die out. The name stuck.
