United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps

- The United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, also known as "The Commandant's Own," performed May 27 at the 2012 Memorial Day Ceremony at Aisne-Marne American Cemetery in Belleau, France. The cemetery sits at the foot of Belleau Wood, the location of a fierce World War I battle in June 1918, and a site shrouded in U.S. Marine Corps history.
Something to consider for those that say the Marines would get killed in DCI. The D&B does not only play ONE 11.5 minute show. They have their TWENTY FIVE minute field show, and have a repertoire of around 30 tunes that they can play with only a moment's notice. In addition to their musical responsibilities they also have a host of your typical military duties to contend with. Unlike a lot of other military musicians Marines still receive combat training. They still have to qualify on rifle every year.
The D&B has a three week training camp at the beginning of the year. When that is over, and the performance season starts not a lot of time is spent rehearsing the field show.

I think people need to remember that these are Marines. They aren't DCI kids, they are grown Marines. They go through the same basic training that all Marines must go through they do everything a Marine must do, just on top of that they also play their instrument. Most of these individuals are college graduates and professionals at their instruments. They are not in it to compete with DCI kids they are in it to represent the Marine Corps and play music that drums up patriotic support. To say that these Marines wouldn't do well in DCI is quite laughable when most kids I've encountered in DCI couldn't make it through basic to become a Marine in the first place.

There's enough room for both types of drum corps and a lot of people who make up the marine drum corps are from the family of DCI. I marched in the Boston crusaders corps in the late 70s and helped teach in the 80s. It's very hard to get into each of these respective corps today. DCI corps of today are made up by music and dance majors and the Marines are also professional musicians and solders who can over seas to fight for yours and my freedom to do what we enjoy doing.there is not a reason that you shouldn't take the time to appreciate the hard work that all of these people put into the great performances you are able to enjoy. I have a great appreciation for the skills and dedication to the music that each person who has been as fortunate to have worn the uniform for each corps past and present as well as the future.have a great day today and I hope to see you next year at a great drum corps show in 2020.

Has anybody noticed their feet are not at a 45 degree angle they are parallel to each other TCI for a few years did the same thing I don't understand why it's not very comfortable and certainly not natural for the human body just wondering why they did that? I have a thought most respect for the Marine drum and bugle Corps they are top-notch I've seen him put on many exhibitions when I competed in drum and bugle corpse competition

guys, commandant's own is the only corps left that marches G Bugles (the 2 valved horns) i'll admit they're good history and a great show, but they wouldnt do well in dci honestly
As I understand it a true bugle has no valves ? The drummers in the Royal Marine bands carry and play real bugles .
@@alansawyer2799 true, but that would mean that you would forever only get the basic "do, so, do, mi, so" notes out of them, which isn't the greatest range I'd say
@@alansawyer2799, by definition, a bugle is valveless and like a trumpet. Competitive drum and bugle corps added valves and voices to the traditional G military bugle, leading to the "bugle" being called the "soprano bugle." Two valves were used between 1977 and 1989. 1990 saw the phasing in of 3 valves.
What you see here are 2-valve G soprano, mellophone, baritone, and contrabass bugles. It's technically the shape of the tubing, mainly the bell, that differentiates between a trumpet and a bugle.
