    • Backyard Plant Propaga...
The videos in this series are gold. His background is in large scale nursery business and to be honest some of the things he's doing might be a bit overkill for a backyard set up, but the concepts are what is important! Helped me learn the basics of a misting system and an irrigation system in general.
    • Nick Ferguson Plant Pr...
A long and informative video. He doesn't go into the specifics of how he built the bed but you can check out his set up and he has good tips for how to take cuttings
This is the timer I used:
    www.amazon.com...
The timer might take a little time to figure out how to program. Don't throw away the manual. You will figure it out.
Something I didn't mention that is important is the location of the bed. The east side of a house seems ideal to me because it avoids the late day sun that can cause cuttings to transpire too quickly and dessicate. It is also good because it is close so you will be able to check on it regularly. Another option would to add a shade cloth on top of the plastic.

Very good info. Can you provide a link to the mister heads you used?

Thanks for the video. I love seeing this from someone like myself who is doing it at home. What was your success like last summer? What lessons did you learn? I’m getting ready to do a softwood propagation setup like this for blueberries...

Thanks Joshua, glad to year you're trying this out at home as well. I had a pretty high success rate, I think I will make an update video soon. I lost a lot of plants over the winter-plants grown from softwood cuttings are extra sensitive to the cold I think and haven't had a whole season to put on growth. Blueberries worked but the success rate was lower and they are slower to grow than a lot of the other species I tried.

Did you transplant the rooted plugs into nursery beds? Or tried to keep them in the flats overwinter? Do you think burying the whole flat and some of the plant could be effective?
My preferred method would be transplanting when they have enough roots, but maybe that would be too late…thank you for the guidance!

When you explain construction of the cover I notice there is some sort of blue tube spanning the inside top of the cover. What is that and the purpose of it??
