The Millington engine just sounds as if it always wants to give, give and then give some more, absolutely wonderful - flat out and sideways you cannot beat it!!
I used to tire of the constant stream of escorts at rallies in the 80s. Now thank god I can still be reminded of the induction of these engines. God bless these guys for keeping it alive. Still should be manual gearboxes though!
Fantastic vid & cars, took me back to my marshalling/rally days, RAC etc, that sound is great, I used to have Fords back in the day, mexico's & RS2000...thanks for the video clips...
Mini's kings of the sixties, Escorts, kings of the seventies ...all the group "B" in the '80s ...after that i've kinda lost interest . but these Escorts and the like are what its all about. Fantastic!
Wow these cars are little savages and the drivers have balls of steel. I bet these cars are a blast to drive especially with the fact that scaring the hell out of yourself is going to be a common occurrence lol.
Did Hannu Mikkola's Eaton Yale blue mk2 have a Millington in it? What about Vatanens infamous black escort that he crashed on the Manx rally, did that have a Millington?
These are good and sound nice, but do they sound better than a 10V ur quattro or a 911 sc rs? Doubt it...but they really enjoy the crowd going sideways all the time.
They wont be 500bhp more likely around 300-350bhp the millington powered escorts.i think the 2.5 millington diamond series has around 350bhp somewhere around that.but do think some of these escorts are bda powered.!!
They would never have caught the following they have in the UK nor would they have sold well, They're small and have small 4 cylinder engines, two things American car enthusiasts usually hate. In the land of the V8 these would likely be remembered as grocery getters and would probably all be scrapped now
No not really. Not all Americans like battleship cars powered by v8's. The turbo revolution happened in the 80s in America. And I'm pretty sure this car would have been magic with an SVO Mustang turbo motor but with dual cams or a supercharged v6 from a Supercoupe or even the Yamaha v6 from the Taurus SHO.
turshin Find me a car of this size and comparable engine that sold well in the USA. What you don't get is that these had CRAP power stock, nobody would have given this car a second look in 70's America. Nobody cared about them in 70s europe either they were just another car
skeligandrew those little Datsuns did pretty well here and still have a following. I'm not a representative of everyone here in the US but I will say that I like the fast fords of Europe. Mk II escort being on my top five favorite cars to own and mod. We got the Sierra Cosworth in the form of the xr4ti minus the Cosworth engine and that did descent for a special production car. In the 70's no it wouldn't have done well at all but, the turbo crazy scene in the US in the 80's it would have out ran the Mustang given one of the power plants I mentioned earlier.
The Millington engine just sounds as if it always wants to give, give and then give some more, absolutely wonderful - flat out and sideways you cannot beat it!!
Millington Diamond is one of the best sounding engines on the planet.
"Millington Diamond is _the_ best sounding engine on the planet". There I fixed it for you :)

It's been ten years, and still loving it... nice 1.

A few of these aren't Millington

Aye your full of shit man you know very little of them then yer
stephen john gray I bet they are shut the fuck up all you experts

Where do all these mk2's come from, just repaneled shells or what?
I've seen new shells for sale. They are being manufactured again. Cost about 7500 Euros I think. Would love to get one and build up an Escort.
@@robertritchie2860 you’ll need a good body shop to get the gaps/shut lines straight/even on the doors, bonnet, boot etc....
Why oh why didn't we get these escorts in the states. All the ones we got were shit. I know they're modded to all hell but these are way better.
The Millington engine alone costs about $30'000...
