I'm so happy that proceeds from this film are being divided equally among all the Sherpas.
@19:40 ''Not going to summit?''......Nothing destroys team moral and trust quicker than hiding the goal or purpose of what you're trying to achieve from the very people you are relying on. Incredible moment right there.
The Sherpas are the hero climbers of Everest... period.
absolutely
Absofrickinglutely. They are an amazing and indispensable part of the success of these climbers, and their contribution cannot be understated. Incredible physiology as well. They can tolerate low oxygen levels that would send you or me into instant unconsciousness.
Tourist Trap this
Totally.
The people of the East In Tibetan.
I could watch this over and over again.... Congratulations on reaching the summit and to the unsung heroes: the Sherpa's for making it possible 👏👏👏
Mallory and Irvine have been my heroes (along with Shackleton) ever since I was a little girl. I had two grown up brothers that would tell their stories to me and I’ve been fascinated by them ever since. George Mallory didn’t have his wife’s photo on him when he was found all those years later, it must still be on the top of Everest 🤞🤞 🤞 🤞 🤞
it just might have been blown away. I feel Irvine's body fell into a crevasse.
@@sheilabloom6735 Perhaps there’s a Kiwi with it in his pocket. Joke.
Точно эти парни были первыми!!!! Сейчас таких уже не делают!!!!
National Geographic photographers are in a class of their own!!! Their dedication to showing us the intricacies, oddities, creatures and peoples of this Earth is beyond my advanced degree education...awesome individuals!! Thank you for showing us your personal story...very much appreciated!!
They also lie a lot too, unfortunately the NG of the 50s-70s will never be the same.
They make amazing movies
The photography and videography in this documentary is stunning-5 stars. It is by far the best photo/video that has been done of Everest yet.
I totally agree! Incredible!
I second that! Some of the shots were just magic!
This video saved my life. I dont wanna go no more.
Looks incredible seeing the lines of light heading up the mountain in the starlight. Almost like an ancient dragon winding up the mountain.
Right?? That was insanely beautiful.
Agree
That opening shot of Everest is majestic. That will suffice for me.
On the edge of my seat listening with such intent wonderfully done 👏 The elder Sherpa said “climbing is greed” those are some intense true words
“The earths highest dump, just below its highest graveyard”… that should be the official Mt Everest bumper sticker
There's some cracking cinematic music in this.
Agree 100%
Thank you. Fifteen years on, your film took me right back there, every rock formation, every footstep, every memory, indelibly printed. The eternal moral dilemma that being there destroys the reason you are there. Remote, isolated, beauty. Thank you Chomolungma, for letting me walk in the footsteps of those who went before. Well done to you and your team.
Very well put.
The portrait photos of the himalayan people are so beautiful, full of spirit, almost showing their souls - very, very beautiful. Thank you for this honest and touching, yet very beautiful movie.
This was impressive that people and cameras work in those conditions and altitudes.
Only if you keep the batteries warm...
The cinematography and soundtrack is better than any mountain/expedition production ever distributed.
Professional.
The closing scene gave me chills. Brilliant work.
Someone wrote under an other Everest video, that normal start pay for sherpa is $40-50k, doing carry work etc not high up. Average wage $70-80k. And the best paid most experienced or sought after can make $140k.
Still underpaid 👎🏽
I just realized that this is the same person responsible for the most moving documentaries I have ever seen. Now I have a third one to add to my top list. Wow. Just wow. Thank you.
What 3?
@@pabloeskimospotpopper9247 Sherpa (2015) and Meru (2015) and this is number 3!
I love watching documentaries on climbers on Everest, K2, the Alps, etc.
@@hhairball9 Meru is the best documentary I have ever seen. Just incredible in so many ways!
Love Meru! Had to buy it.
Imo Meru is THE climbing documentary
Absolutely beautiful. Thank you for putting a spotlight on the Sherpas. They are amazing people and deserve much better treatment. Wonderful!!
One of the most incredible videos of watched of Mt. Everest!
Five minutes in and I already know this is going to be one of the most amazing docs I've ever seen.
As I watched, I was most struck by the fact that most people lose their balance under the simplest of situations when filming ANYTHING, on level, warm, pleasant terra firma. And here you are filming in the most precarious and dangerous of places, and you are unable to really watch where you're going because you are documenting this event. Also, like every other climber there, you must still TRY to think of your safety, as well as deal with every other aspect of the personal dangers and difficulties.......OMG, I truly don't know how you did it!! I think I'm still holding my breath for you!!!
The Sherpas are the lifeblood of that mountain. They are the true heros and need better pay.
Why ? They earn a fortune from gullible Westerners . If not for them they wouldn't earn anything.
They are not helpless victims.
Perfect job Renan Abi and others 👏🏼
Strange to re upload the whole film and add a behind the scenes at the end. Why not just upload this one first time or upload only the BTS now?...Either way it's amazing, LOVE IT!!!.
Respect to all involved from Renan to sherpa.
They should be millionaire's
I really have no words. Watching this, time ceased to exist for me. I was entranced. Your narration was poetic, brought tears to my eyes. Your respect for all around you, living or non living, deeply touched me, and helped me see Mt. Everest and all who are connected with it in a new light. Namaste.
Beautifully said. Everything about these cinematic picture are so tougching
You really did a great job! So captivating & beutiful pictures
Great footage. It's a real shame that Everest has become nothing more than a rubbish tip and of course a graveyard.
Maybe theyll build heated stairs going up with stick builts to stay in on the way up and oxygen vending machines along the route. Little hospital
@@cynthiamarston2208 don't forget a Starbucks!
We need more docs on the Sherpas and more pay for the Sherpas. You spent 20 seconds on them here! These guys put aside their beliefs for all the climbers! Please let's focus on the Sherpas and their families!
This is an awesome video clip though ruclips.net/video/MevE_EUsg1U/видео.html
yes
Make your own phucking documentary
Some Incredible images! just amazing - still captures and moving - I'm in awe
This is the BEST movie about Everest ! Thank you !
I loved the shots of the stars
An incredible film and an incredible behind the scenes. I've already watched the main feature several times and suspect several more viewings are in the near future. Well done to all involved.
Hear, hear. There's no photographer like Renan. He's simply the best.
@@nonmihiseddeo4181 well....there is Jimmy Chin also.... :)
@@mihaigutulan both are great!
What is the main feature called?
Thank you for making this film, Renan! I just finished "The Abominable" by Dan Simmons. It's so nice to see the locations of all of Chomolungma's features--especially the North Col! The col is the site of so much suffering! You captured the seracs, the spindrift, the everything! I had to draw my own maps while reading that 646 page tome. Now, you've brought everything to film with your team's gorgeous cinematography. Thank you so very much!
Was amazing up to the point where you disrepsected the sherpas advice.
the hypocrisy of 19:22 of them lying to the sherpas and completely disregarding everything they planned for the route to tell the truth on the mountain that takes days to get to base camp alone and sherpas are already doing repeated climbs up and down to stock up the tents.
Spectacular photography! Great job Renan! Really hope Irvine body is found some day. Would be awesome to know if Irvine and Mallory were the first ones at the summit. I think they were. Oh the camera from that climb say it all. Unbelievable how they climbed back then.
Amazing view, thanks for shared
Mountains are Majestic and Magical.
Feel the same, Susan!
Every aspect of this film is outstanding. All senses well fed. It is so great to see such full support for those Sherpas. So many rich folk wanting a trophy ….. so many that want an easier, faster way, but find it difficult to share the blessings8
"Climbing as a form of greed" - The best characterization of those who climb
The Sherpa's will get their flowers 🌺
It really is crazy to think how those guys summited in the 1920’s. Insane
The same generation that won WW I in the grimmest conditions that one could imagine.
I would just watch this video for the quality... Super Quality recording..
this is more than just a film really appreciate your work and the risk you guys take and its totally worth it, i haven't seen film like this before in my life amazing work guys salute to each and everyone in the team 🙏🙌 more power to you
incredible film just incredible film and notheing to say.
Great camera work at that high of altitude. I felt like I was there. I cringed when the climber (34:00) went searching with no safety rope with that massive drop in front of him.
Such incredible photography and filming, breath-taking in its beauty.
Absolutely incredible footage Renan!!! Stunning is the only word that can even begin to summarize or describe this video/footage. Allows me to live vicariously without ever truly being there and that's what makes this so special for myself personally. Thank you Renan!!!
Thank you for your incredible work & courage. Greatly appreciate the view & story.
Best documentary I have seen
Amazing work. Wish I could hear what you are saying over the music though.
The closed captioning works great
@@ladybolski some of the titles were hard to read..yellow on ice wasnt well thought out imo.
The music compliments the photography beautifully. Amazing work. Thank you.
They must be using drones now because l've never seen Everest quite like this before! WELL DONE!
The pictures and videos are absolutely stunning. It really opened my eyes to why people will risk it all to go. (I won’t go but I get it. 😉)
The music!
Beautiful. Stunning. Thank you.
This is the most beautifully shot mountain movie I have ever seen!
Incredible film awesome photos and great job... compliments to all...!!!
Thank you so much, Luca!
amazing footage and crew
WOW! Incredible footage and narration. Beautiful, thank you!
The content on this channel is top drawer......from a very tall chest of drawers
As a photographer also have shoot at very risky places I can understand what it takes even the partial shoot from 3 & 4 cam. In overall truly awesome work !
We Nepalese are proud of our Sherpa community
Wow. Thank you so much for the fascinating pictures and stories. It’s really a piece of art.
Im very sorry for the sherpas. They should earn more and have a life insurance for the case that they have an accident.
Everyone should listen more to the sherpas.
The images are incredible!!!!! WOW. It is beautiful.
Every Everest video has this comment and is very true! (SHERPAS ARE THE REAL HEROS OF THE MOUNTAINS)
mesmerising
My dad was doing his PhD thesis and was in Nepal when the first group came down, I think it was 1962 written on his photographs. They did NOT look well
wow! Stunning!
Looking at it the second time, all I see is a narcisistic documentation. Boy this man is so in love with himself...
Well , he's not as bad as Zelensky !!
@@2msvalkyrie529no, he's much worse
Just beautiful! Awesome in the true senseof the word. Thank you so much for this gift.
Wow ! Such an amazing documentary. Those registered shots are incredible.
We couldn't agree more, Jackie!
Beautiful images!! Amazing work up there!
The elder Sherpa was right, this is nothing but greed. Going off the "beaten path" against the orders of the Sherpas. Risking not only their lives and your climbing partner, but your life as well. Mountaineering has become an embarrassment.
A fallen body won't be on the beaten path.
@@idontextback ummm, right. 🤷🏻♂️
I have to agree. My first thought was “how incredibly selfish”. That team went there on a lie. On a ego driven quest to what? Find a body? I watched you tromp right on by dead bodies as you climbed. I saw people using bodies as back rests. So this wasn’t about respect for the dead. It was a selfish desire for accolades. Did you really think you would have the energy or even the ability to hunt for a specific body? And if you did find him then what? You’d cart him down with you? Not likely. I’m astonished by all the people blowing smoke whilst completely ignoring that the entire premise of this trip was extraordinarily arrogant and self focused. 🤷🏻♀️
@@KayCeeTX21 exactly! They wanted accolades and to be “ heroes”
19:22 kingshit move by the documentary guys
Great explanation of how suffer the team to get the perfect image for this documentaries.
Dude thank you that was incredible.
Amazing!
All that great work in making this doco but who watched tge final production
DID NOT NOTICE how the music is over riding !!voices and the wind and maybe peace ???
What's sobering is that the most dangerous part of an Everest expedition is the way down.
I’m cold 🥶 just watching this
Excellent photography! So bummed I could barely hear what was being said! Music way to loud.
Tengboche Rinpoche had it right when he said " climbing the mountain was a form of greed"
Thank you for your pictures
Hey where did you get the perfect pop up tents?
Here's betting Mallory didn't have a pop up tent
Regards and respect to you from Australia.
Why did you surprise the Sherpas like this? Is the National Geographic expedition policy to just send it and hope for the best? Poor preparation!
Why did they have to keep the purpose of the expedition a secret from the Sherpas?
Exactly
Camera, snuggling, I like that!
fantastic story, this and the feature , thankyou for bringing it to us
Wow!! Just Wow!! Absolutely stunning photos. I've been reading and watching documentaries on Everest for years and you allowed me to see it like I never have before. Thank you so very much.
this doesn't have the queues because it's the less popular northern route. The busy pictures are from the south side
This comment is not to bag the photographers who provided some amazing footage. But starting comments outlines the objective: "coming to solve one of the greatest mysteries in exploration". The aim of the expedition was poorly planned and never achieved, other than a token look at a potential site and some desktop study of the Mallory - Irvine expedition. What was captured is the desecration of a beautiful landscape, trashed by years of discarded climbing ropes, shredded tents and other abandoned gear, plus a scattering of dead bodies. It also demonstrated the poor communications with and the lack of understanding of sherpas.
And yet you watched and commented. That's support. Lmao!
What a beautiful photography and video content
What an incredible film this was! Seriously amazing guys 😊
I would love to see how you would document el camino Santiago, or what would a Sherpa think of the camino.
The mountain is called NeverRest for a reason.
Sensitive, fascinating, respectful, informative, beautiful documentary.
love enjoying the content
