I like it! I built one that is similiar. But I put in a wooden ring for a sound well and used a cookie tin lid as a resonator. These small experimental builds are great fun to watch and do.
Yes they are a lot of fun! The string up is so exciting to see all the work come together. I started build #9 on Monday and I am really looking forward to hearing how it will sound. I'm doing some very weird things for it...lol
That's correct! There was blood given to the mouth of the guitar, and also on the back and neck, i did not show those as it would have interfered with the ritual...
I build a guitar in a very similar method of basically routing out the body to a thin wall and adding a top. Currently building a woodtop electric 3 string banjo with a bolt on neck (like a strange cigar box guitar but banjo shaped and out of mahogany) love these videos and awesome wood working showing off your hand tool skills! Hopfully my banjstrosity comes out similarly nice!
@@OverNightLuthier I'm no videographer. I've been taking pictures along the way, will probably post them on reddit or something to get judged by the masses lol. Mostly gonna play it electric and I don't have a thickness planer so gonna just do very minimal bracing and see how it sounds acoustically like a travel open g blues strum machine
@@DouglasThompson In addition, it seems you leave the walls pretty thick and you're using them as a surface for your router plate. If you keep the body blank offcuts, you can clamp them to the outside of the body to have better stability for routing closer to the edge. Or, route the cavity prior to cutting out the body. I just think having thinner sides would increase the acoustic resonance. Since they aren't bent a la traditional acoustic construction, you have to worry about grain tearout, but I still think you could go thinner than you are.

@Frkunkie Thank you! I plan to make a more refined version of this one once I get a bit better. My next build will be a bit off the wall. ;) my advice is to get some basic woodworking tools and go for it! The mistakes you make only strengthens your understanding.
@@michaelj.anderson1116 luckily there are 6 of them up right now. The next video is going to be a bit strange. I'm hoping to try another completely new idea. :)
This one is about 1.8mm I believe based on my rough measurements. I could go thinner and I could also do thinner bracing but I was a bit more conservative on this build after the last "guitaFAILe" prototype build. Lol My next video will be focusing on an idea I've had for some weeks. Not sure it's going to work out bit if it does, could be pretty cool.
This one turned out great. I wonder how loud it is considering there's not much volume in that acoustic chamber and you only have that flared hole on the side of the body.
@BrunodeSouzaLino it's pretty loud for it's size, definitely has more volume than the Yamaha gl100 guitar I based the outline after. That gl100 is a LOT thicker. I'll do a comparison video in the future.
@@scottcountryman6090 interesting, ya I found it free in a pile of old dirty wood. I took all the nails out and cut it in half. Really cool back on this guitar.

@ogmorganfreeman3486 well if you end up even taking some pictures let me know! I'll definitely check it out.
7:44 A flush trim bit for the router can cut out so much time and make it super clean. I’d invest in one specifically for that purpose
8:18 and here too
Lol you know...I thought that damn bit I was using sucked balls...I will look into that! Thank you.

Super creepy. I approve. Thumbs up!

Awesome
Thank you, Matt! My next guitar video might be a modification video on a pre-existing guitar.
It turned out well. On your next build, I think you should try a thinner soundboard.

Ya, certain angles it does look thicker, I think it's because I rounded all the edges a lot.
