Gary, OMG you figured it out!!!! Thank you. My bypass valve was open because a plumber was "exercising" my valves and left that one open. It took me 2 weeks to use rust out, reroute the drain line, clean out the injector and the other thing you have a video on. Thanks fot all the great information. My question is : on the top of th 5600 fleck main piston valve should the small screw and washer that attaches the piston to the cam wheel be tight or loose? I dont know if I've made it too tight. Would that impede the function of the piston/cam wheel operation preventing the cycles to complete and jamming or getting the valve/cam stuck on a particular point. My rinse cycled for over an hour and i thought it wasnt going to complete so i had to manually turn cycle past that point. My motor ,120v, is making noises that arent good, and the clock is running slow, about 2 hrs/day. Is that related to the timer getting wesker and malfunctioning? Thank you so much.
@@water_estore I was impressed, but now not so much. This softener is probably one of the most popular for many years, it's baffling you don't know anything about it. Oh well, I'll move on, thanks anyway
Yes, the Fleck 5600 has been around for over 50 years, but as I mentioned it is not a product that I am very familiar with. We recommend newer technology products and I honestly see very few Fleck 5600'. So I have done very little work on them even 20 years ago, which is why I suggested you contact someone who still sells and sevices older technology Fleck water softeners (we don't) because they likely will be able to help you.

Hi Gary, I just installed an Aqualux ProSoft water softener with a Fleck 5810 high flow control valve. With a 1.0 cubic foot, 10" x 54" tank and 200lb. salt capacity brine tank. I have a high suspended manganese level of 2.32 mg/L , iron @0.07 mg/L, hardness @103.1ug/L = 6 grains per gallon. which puts my hardness setting at 15.56 (H-15) on my control valve. Res Care was supplied with this unit. My question is how often should I apply Res Care and/or should I be using Pro Rust Out? Or is there a a different product I should use. Depends on if your water softener is on city or well water and if that well water has iron or not. Once a year should be enough unless you have lots of iron in your well water.
Gary I am glad that you are on Tube that you gave me hope that I can get my Canature 565 150 I had it installed in 2014 and I thought that I would give a NE Air National Guard member that was working for Quality Water Services and the plumber came and hooked it up in about 15 minutes and they charged me the flat fee of $350 plus I had over half a bag of resin beads that I had from adding to my old Water Softener that We had to get when we had a Heritage Prebuilt Home and purchased it from My Wife’s Uncle and We bought 3acres from Her Dad over Forty Five years ago and the plumber/private well driller / submersible
Hi Gary, I know this video was produced a year ago but, I just discovered your videos. The reason I have been looking up videos on water softeners is that I have been dealing with a service company for mine that I really believe has been ripping me off and not doing the correct service on my softeners system. I purchased a Westinghouse water softener system which included a 5 tier reverse osmosis system installed under our kitchen sink about 7 years ago. This system is due for an annual servicing. I just tested the water for hardness and it is testing hard. Also I am smelling an older coming from the regular faucets when the water is running. We are on well water BTW. I have come to the realization that I can service this myself but need some advice. Questions: I bought some 'Iron Out'. Should I bypass the media tank while adding the Iron Out to the brine well to regenerate the media? Also the book I have for this system doesn't go into servicing this equipment and there is no videos of instructions on servicing the Westinghouse water softeners on line. Any advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for helping us out.
No you should not bypass the water softener when adding the iron out. My water softener maintenance video here should help ruclips.net/video/kdkhAGlB2AQ/видео.html
Hi Gary i have a water refilling station the frequency of regeneration is every 2 days. The resin beads was replace last Nov. 2020. But only this year 2022 Aug. i manage to check the water hardness using test kit solution 1,2 and 3. I found out the hardness is 170ppm and the color of the water sample from the softener outlet is blue. Advice me how to correct the hardness. Do i need to replaced the resin beads? Fyi. the source of water i used is from deepwell .Thank you in advanced.
Hi Gary... I have a Whirlpool... it sprung a leak... on the water intake... plastic close to where the clip slides in. Can we fix it or do we replace that part.. thanks in advance
I just got a system installed locally here and the system has a bypass valve but why did the install company also install an external bypass system as well.
Hi Gary! I just found your videos tonight and have now subscribed to your channel. Fantastic content. Thank you! My question relates to your suggestion of using chlorine to disinfectant the media bed... Does one simply purchase regular chlorine laundry bleach for this?
Hi Gary we are 4 people and I am thinking to get a water boss water softener I live in city area, what model will the best for us, please, let me know when you can, thank you.
This video will help you test this out. ruclips.net/video/tCQQxiT-zoc/видео.html If it is clogged you could replace the media instaed of getting a new one, this video shows you how ruclips.net/video/Z47JGH1l39o/видео.html
No, but no longer than a couple of months. It's actually a good thing to run out once a year so the system can clean up all the old salt in the brine tank.
If you have a lot of iron in your water, do not use the red out salt, as it has just a little bit of citric acid sprayed onto the pellets. Use Rust Out, and sprinkle 4 oz. over each bag of salt. As it works its way down into the brine solution, it will clean your resin a lot better than the red out salt. I would recommend buying the standard water softener pellet and then buying Rust Out.
I have a maytag water sofner for almost a year when they install it i ask the if I need to do any maintenance and the guy said no , only to make sure to have full all the time. But every 2 weeks I look at the tank and there's water i don't know if system is working properly.
The media is clogged. You either need to replace the media or the softener. this is a popular choice waterestore.com/products/hum-deluxe-water-softener-30-000-grain
For my softener plant, brine intake time is 30 minutes whereas duration of filling water into the brine in the last of regeneration process is just 5 minutes. My question is if the system refills very less quantity of water, how much brine solution is it going to take in because brine suction cycle is 30 minutes. Will it take some air after taking in all the very low volume of water? Or should I fill manually the brine tank after it refills for 5 minutes. Please explain. Thanks in advance
Gary, just found you on RUclips and followed your tip on how to bypass my water softener. It's Saturday night and my kinetico water softener will not stop regenerating. Was hoping you could help me fix the issue. Thx a million in advance.
@@water_estore Ours keeps dumping water out of the drain house.... been about 3 days. just bypassed it. What is our next step? I thought these were very low maintenance! What reasons could cause non-stop draining to occur? Faulty O-Ring maybe? We always use quality salt and the regen is set to approx 3am

I have had a Culligan water softener for 5 years. The water isn’t Coming out soft anymore. It appears that we did have a salt bridge. We cleaned the salt bridge we cleaned the entire salt tank. We also used resin out to clean the brain well. I have re-generated the system with each process. What else am I missing what could it be.
Waterboss 900 water pressure in the house is very low. when softener is bypassed there is plenty of pressure. I replaced injector assembly, cleaned brine valve assembly. still low pressure Help...
Problem with my water softener...seems to work ok...but when I add salt, the reset salt level button does not stop flashing. I tried unplugging it, waiting, and plugging it back in. Any idea?

I have a Hague Watermax. I bought my house in 2009 and it came with the house. (house built 2000). I cleaned the brine tank, it was very dirty. I regenerated it overnight and it is still black (or gray). Do you think Res Care will fix this problem? I watched a video from Hague and they were cleaning (replacing) carbon. Have you ever heard of that and do you think it may be carbon issue or Res Care can fix it?
I don't like or handle pre fill water softeners. But the maintenance should be the same as what is in this video ruclips.net/video/kdkhAGlB2AQ/видео.html
@@water_estore thank you. We just replaced our original Puronics with a new one and I was so worried that I messed it up. First mistake in 20 plus years with my unit! 😂
I have never heard of the boards ever shorting out. A brown out or major voltage or power surge may kill the board which is why I suggest you plug it into a surge suppressor. We have sold thousands of these and never had a worm gear or motor failure, have you?
I would not recommend using chlorine as chlorine damages resin and is not approved to disinfect a water softener. I would recommend using Sani-System. Sani-System is NSF approved and EPA registered sanitizer for water softeners and Reverse Osmosis units. And it does not damage resin, valves or seals in the unit.
To some extent yes, but we now have over 300 videos in the library and people have trouble finding the ones they are looking for. How often should I need to clean my clack ws1 with Rescare ?
Depends on if your water softener is on city or well water and if that well water has iron or not. Once a year should be enough unless you have lots of iron in your well water.
Any info on cleaning a Venturi valve/system. Ken more softener. Thanks for the info.
I am not familiar with their venturis
gary would do res care and iron out at the same time or space it out with 1-2 cycles?
Defintely space it out by several weeks.
How can I help you?
Can you exercise the bypass valves while it is still hooked up or do you need to shut the water off or shut it down before you do that
You can exercise it at any time.
I just tested the water for hardness and it is testing
hard.
Additional info i put solar salt 5kilos every regeneration.
Have you gone through the troubleshooting advice in this video ruclips.net/video/Lr3jyGiJdC0/видео.html
Hi Gary... I have a Whirlpool... it sprung a leak... on the water intake... plastic close to where the clip slides in. Can we fix it or do we replace that part.. thanks in advance
I would replace the part.
Do you test the water before or after the water softner
Great question. Usually both as it will tell me if the water softener is working or not. Before also tells us how much iron is in the water.
@@water_estore Thanks Gary !
My console shows NA when I am trying to set. Can you suggest what should I do ?
At what stage is it showing NA? Is it for your hardness setting?
I just got a system installed locally here and the system has a bypass valve but why did the install company also install an external bypass system as well.
Not sure, could cause a concern in the future. I would ask them
Hi Gary! I just found your videos tonight and have now subscribed to your channel. Fantastic content. Thank you!
My question relates to your suggestion of using chlorine to disinfectant the media bed... Does one simply purchase regular chlorine laundry bleach for this?
Yes
Hi Gary we are 4 people and I am thinking to get a water boss water softener I live in city area, what model will the best for us, please, let me know when you can, thank you.
It depends on how hard your water is, do you know?
Hi Gary: I Have a Rain Soft E5, I don't like the slimy feel while taking a shower is there a way to adjust the hardnes
I am not familiar with that model but I'm sure you can set the hardness, have you checked the manual?
What causes the water pressure to be low. I have an AO Smith water softener. Only 4 years old. A plumber told us we needed a new one.
This video will help you test this out. ruclips.net/video/tCQQxiT-zoc/видео.html If it is clogged you could replace the media instaed of getting a new one, this video shows you how ruclips.net/video/Z47JGH1l39o/видео.html
Can I place a big blue sediment before a new air iron filter with clack ws1 head? Im also having a water softener after the iron filter.
Yes you can.
Must it be on bypass to clean the injectors
No, but the water needs to be shut off and you do need to start a regeneration cycle to release the pressure.
Hi Gary, would UV light take care of bacterial iron?
Great question, no it will not. You need a chlorine injection system.
How much water should be in the Brine tank after Regeneration
Good question, this video will help you with that info ruclips.net/video/flBBqcNa_AI/видео.html
Do you need to use res-up if you use red out salt in water softener
If that salt brand has iron remover in it, no you do not.
Hi Gary. Does it hurt if you ran out of salt for a couple of months
Cheers
Rick
No, but no longer than a couple of months. It's actually a good thing to run out once a year so the system can clean up all the old salt in the brine tank.
If you have a lot of iron in your water, do not use the red out salt, as it has just a little bit of citric acid sprayed onto the pellets. Use Rust Out, and sprinkle 4 oz. over each bag of salt. As it works its way down into the brine solution, it will clean your resin a lot better than the red out salt. I would recommend buying the standard water softener pellet and then buying Rust Out.
I haven't checked this out but it sounds like it's worth a try if you are using a water softener to remove a large amount of iron from your water.
I have a maytag water sofner for almost a year when they install it i ask the if I need to do any maintenance and the guy said no , only to make sure to have full all the time. But every 2 weeks I look at the tank and there's water i don't know if system is working properly.
Check out the information in this video, it should help you ruclips.net/video/flBBqcNa_AI/видео.html
Have a kenmore water conditioner. Water pressure is down to a trickle at times. Bypassed water conditioner and pressure ok now.
No, you don’t need to add water. This video explains the regeneration cycle
@@water_estore Thanks for the reply. I stopped adding water and now my hardness levels are maintained. 👍
can I add media if I lost some on a backwash.
Theoretically yes, but how do you know how much you lost?
Gary, just found you on RUclips and followed your tip on how to bypass my water softener. It's Saturday night and my kinetico water softener will not stop regenerating. Was hoping you could help me fix the issue. Thx a million in advance.
Can you not just bypass it?
@@water_estore Ours keeps dumping water out of the drain house.... been about 3 days. just bypassed it. What is our next step? I thought these were very low maintenance! What reasons could cause non-stop draining to occur? Faulty O-Ring maybe? We always use quality salt and the regen is set to approx 3am
@@water_estore yes I was able to bypass by watching your RUclips video. The kinetico (American Water) crew came to the house and replaced the head unit. Fortunately for us the Kinetico was still under warranty.... All's good now. Thx
Any tips on a on demand unit, level of salt, setting up nightime demand ,
How often it should recharge.
Yes I do. I have videos on all of those topics here ruclips.net/video/cmhwbnVvM8w/видео.html and here ruclips.net/video/5j3wXccdC4c/видео.html and here ruclips.net/video/c6r7qUK8to4/видео.html
My regen time is set for 2:20 PM. How do I change it to 2:20 AM ?
This video shows you how ruclips.net/video/qrnARW88Rc4/видео.htmlsi=PUdU0iZOg6n9H8R8
Hi, should I run the recharge everyday and should I manually do it? I set my softener recharge at 2 am, but it didn't start that time.
Water Softeners does not regenerate every night only when they run out of capacity. This video will help ruclips.net/video/wPh_l56OWOM/видео.html
@@water_estore Hi Gary, thanks for your answer. I'd like to know will the softener run automatically or manually? My softener is Kemmore 300, only one part.
I have had a Culligan water softener for 5 years. The water isn’t Coming out soft anymore. It appears that we did have a salt bridge. We cleaned the salt bridge we cleaned the entire salt tank. We also used resin out to clean the brain well. I have re-generated the system with each process. What else am I missing what could it be.
try the ideas in this video ruclips.net/video/Lr3jyGiJdC0/видео.html
Can you turn a one piece system on its side to empty and clean
I wouldn't, they tend to break the top plate. If you are very carfull and tip it on to it's back it might work. But again, I wouldn't.
Waterboss 900 water pressure in the house is very low. when softener is bypassed there is plenty of pressure. I replaced injector assembly, cleaned brine valve assembly. still low pressure Help...
You will need to replace the water softener. Likely the media has become degraded from the chlorine and their now blocking the riser tube
How much water should remain in the tank?
It it is a prefill water softener, there should be none. For a post fill water softener it would depend on the programming but about 1/3 full.
Love chat is not available to me, but my problem is the gallon total is not changing on my water softener. Can you tell me what is wrong?
Yes, your meter is not registering the flow. this video will help ruclips.net/video/Lr3jyGiJdC0/видео.html
Problem with my water softener...seems to work ok...but when I add salt, the reset salt level button does not stop flashing. I tried unplugging it, waiting, and plugging it back in. Any idea?
I would disregard that salt level information altogether. Far more confusion that they are worth.
What do I maintenance for black water? I have flushed my hot water tank and I still have it.
Likley you have manganese in your water. You would need to clean the water softener media. This video explains the process ruclips.net/video/c8QKYr3B02I/видео.html and you can get the cleaner here waterestore.ca/products/pro-res-care-water-softener-resin-cleaner-3-78-l-free-shipping
I would definitely try Res Care, if the media is dirty that might fix it.
Does it regenerate everyday, at 2:00 or only when it needs it at 2:00 a.m.
Only when it needs to at 2:00 am.
good question
how much water level is in the brime tank.
This video will help you ruclips.net/video/flBBqcNa_AI/видео.html
Hi! Can you please do a video "how to regenerate and maintain a pre-fill water softener for dummies?"
I don't like or handle pre fill water softeners. But the maintenance should be the same as what is in this video ruclips.net/video/kdkhAGlB2AQ/видео.html
Where can I get GE parts?
I really don’t know. We don’t have them.
How often should I hear my water softener going on?
It depends, this video will help you ruclips.net/video/5j3wXccdC4c/видео.html
How do i use hydrogen peroxide to clean my pipes or system.
I don't know, only ever used bleach, see this video ruclips.net/video/cQyNRu5LqOM/видео.html
gary how many salt to put in the braine tank
this video of mine explains how much salt ruclips.net/video/C3TpdeNX58E/видео.html
I think I have a leak! I can't find the bypass.
In a Clack WS1 water softener it is where the pipes connect to the water softener waterestore.ca/products/clack-ws1-bypass-v3006
I accidentally put pool salt in my brine tank. What should I do about this? My water is hard. I have a new puronics system.
I would try to remove most of it and then add water softener salt. It should be fine.
@@water_estore thank you. We just replaced our original Puronics with a new one and I was so worried that I messed it up. First mistake in 20 plus years with my unit! 😂
My softener is doing nothing what to check time salt level etc not working is there a fix
Check out the procedure in this video ruclips.net/video/Lr3jyGiJdC0/видео.html
How can I turn the water softener off when I am gone on vacation
You can shut all the water off in the house, bypass it or just unplug.
Can you explain how a water softener works
Sure, this video explains how ruclips.net/video/i9pI76dk4Zs/видео.html
i have a tank filled just water and no salt
What do i do
You would need to add water softener salt.
Why does the solid state boards short out..? Should have reset...cheap worm gear..and motor drive...
I have never heard of the boards ever shorting out. A brown out or major voltage or power surge may kill the board which is why I suggest you plug it into a surge suppressor. We have sold thousands of these and never had a worm gear or motor failure, have you?
I live in Tulsa Oklahoma
Good to know.
We have Sani System available here waterestore.ca/products/pro-products-sani-system-water-softener-disinfectant-2-pack?_pos=26&_sid=f9a936893&_ss=r

Hi Gary I have a leak on the bottom of my cylinder
Mine is staying at 0 capacity in gallons remaining
Either the water softener is not regenerating or there is a problem with the circuit board.
Nothing but advertisements for "my other videos"
To some extent yes, but we now have over 300 videos in the library and people have trouble finding the ones they are looking for. This live stream replay is a great way to group all of the water softener maintenance ones together so if someone is looking for that category I suggest they watch this video. It's quite popular.
