- Video #38. Welcome to the latest video for my channel @KhonKaenDen. In this video, Beau and I continue our trip to Udon Thani, Thailand for a few days. Could we even be thinking of leaving Khon Kaen Thailand for cool Udon Thani? Who knows?! In Part 2, I start with a cold, visit a gorgeous Chinese shrine, visit the local lake and show you around the small but brilliant shop for getting any western food you could ever like! Finally we visit a traditional grilled chicken restaurant on the way home.
Please note that I am not affiliated in any way with the businesses, locations or products featured in any of my videos. I am simply showcasing the area that I love and hope it inspires other people to visit the place.
I upload videos every two days (one day to record, one to edit), keeping you in touch with just about everything regarding my life in Khon Kaen and Isan (or Issarn) and Thailand life. I cover everything from budgets to speaking Thai and eating (and even making) local dishes to spending quality time with my wife, Beau. I am based in Khon Kaen in rural Thailand but will be travelling further afield and showing you more of Isan over the coming months.

Welcome to my latest video for @Khon Kaen Den. In Part 2, Beau and I wrap up our visit to Udon Thani which is about 120 kilometres from Khon Kaen city. Here we visit many places, including gorgeous Chinese shrine, visit the local lake and show you around the small but brilliant shop for getting any western food you could ever like! Finally, we visit a traditional grilled chicken restaurant on the way home to give you an idea of what Udon Thani is all about. Don't forget, if you like this video, like subscribe and comment. Hope you enjoy, Den.
Get in there !! Excellent video Den ❤ From the selection of framing, editing decisions, timing let alone the actual content, these videos are becoming works of art ✅ Thank for sharing your visit to Udon Den & Beau 🙏
Cheers, Ally. Many thanks for your kind words. Wouldn't say works of art yet but I simply love making them. Whether it is a nice temple, a good hotel or a frog on a leaf... I love everything that is part of my life and hope that, when I am very old, I can look back on them and enjoy my time once more. Yeah, love Udon. Been there loads but the first time since starting the channel. I will definitely be returning there and Chiang Mai is on the horizon too... possibly my favourite place in Thailand. Thanks again, Den.
We are half way beteeen Udon and KhonKaen, usually come to KhonKaen though as cn drive straight to central plaza as easy parking . Love Udon it's great on a weekend, with regards to Cheese to meet you - they dont deliver- they do chicken beef and pork but sont de liver ( badum tish) sorry Den - told you my jokes were bad lol. loved your drive around Khon Kaen the other night too been nearly 2 years since we were there but will be back soon. Cheers for the vlogs - keep up the good work mate . Oh I loved the look of the coffee with the yorkshore rose lol.
Haha... love it, Mick. Your jokes really are as bad as mine haha! To be honest, love both KK and Udon. Could happily live in Udon if not settled in KK already. Cheers for the kind words, yet again... another vid out Friday (a cool newish hotel in KK). Hopefully, they won't serve me Yorkshire coffee this time haha... how much did that look like the white rose?! Anyway, take care, fella... speak soon.
@@KhonKaenDen very much like a yorkshire rose, apart from that though I watched the vlog this morning and have had an earwom of sympathy for the devil by the stones in my head all day been singing to my self "cheesed to meat you, hope you guess my name ". Think I will leave Fridays till I get home incase I get another earworm :) .
@@mickj88 Cheers, Mick... Now that is all I CAN THINK... I'll be singing it all day haha. Cheers again, fella and enjoy your weekend. Den.
Great Vlog Den…wether its Thai food in the UK or vice versa, it looks like imported food usually doubles or triples in price…having said that a comfort treat is one of life’s pleasures…Heinz tomato soup with a cheddar toastie 😋 what a mood enhancer 🎉
Very true indeed. I eat Thai food all the time, but once a week or so, I have a blowout with a little comfort food. If you want a taste of home, you have to pay for it. For me, something simple like beans on toast or soup as you say. Proper comfort food... and still comes in under 100 baht a meal to be honest (60-65 for beans, 4 slices of bread and some butter (20ish baht). Even pie and chips is around 100-120 though chips are very expensive in Thailand for some reason (unless you make your own from scratch). Cheers, Den.
That shop looks like Farang paradise 😂great video
It really is a great place, Jay. There are similar stores around the country but this is the best in the area I think (and they deliver). Website is in the comments section if interested. Cheers, Den.
Great tour, guys. I see you have all your ducks in a row there. Very nice and quiet area, must be balm for your soul spending time there. I see the Chinese influence is alive and well in Udon Thani, pretty impressive I must say. I bet the fish were Thai though.. The "cheese 2 meet you" shop had a lot, even Norwegian and Swedish brand food, not bad at all. Those are always recommended, absolutely delicious. And all that cheese! Wow, that is heavenly food. You can put melted cheese into almost everything, and give it a much better taste. Btw, I hope you had time to enjoy your stay there too, and remember, Den, give Beau a spa treatment next time. She deserves it! Thank you, guys 😊😊
Hey, Sarlina. We did indeed have all our ducks in a row haha... it really was a relaxing place (especially day 2). Loved the Chinese shrine and the Thai-Chinese Cultural Center. Would love to have stayed there longer but had to set off back home not long after. Yeah, that shop is really good for almost all main European countries (I probably missed lots of bits to show you). They didn't want me to film there at first (no idea why) but were OK in the end. I will try out some of the Norwegian and Swedish stuff next time up there. Yeah... cheese. Is there anything better? It makes the boring food in the world taste amazing with almost any kind of melted cheese on it!! Would have loved to have bought that enormous wheel of cheese and lived like a mouse for a few weeks. Hehe.
And I will promise you that I will treat Beau to a spa next time... the last spa she had was in Hua Hin or somewhere and was one of those fish feet spas haha... doesn't really count.
A good vid out next back in Khon Kaen (I actually did before Udon but couldn't finish it in time)... a place I have wanted to visit since it opened 10 months ago but never got round to it! Take care and have a great day. Den.
@@KhonKaenDen Four of those cheese wheels, and you could have put them on your car 😊 I'm glad you had a great and quiet day. And I know you will keep your word about the spa. Beau can hardly wait 😂 Take care, guys, see you in the next one 😊🙏
@@sarlina1 haha... class. Maybe I should make a car from scratch, using 4 cheese wheels as the wheels, make a car frame out of sausages and headlights out of cans of beans hehe. I will keep my word for Beau (and you), I promise. Take care, Den.
@@KhonKaenDen Sounds like the perfect car! I will be the first to test drive (or eat..) It 😂
@@sarlina1 haha... Yeah. Or drive it and be very, very hungry!!!!
Interesting look around the shop - i was eagerly awaiting to spot some steak & kidney puddings, but to no avail.😥
I'll have to investigate that Irish Stout - quite a saving on the Guinness, which my Thai wife absolutely loves.
Even at 190 baht/can, it's still a lot cheaper than the 250 - 300 baht per U.S. pint, charged in bars.👌
Actually, just looked on their website for you (in the link) and they do have steak & kidney puddings!!!! I must have missed them.
cheese2meatyou.com/?s=pudding&post_type=product&type_aws=true
Yeah, that Irish stout isn't Guinness (not quite as rich and creamy) but for the price (and a few in) was awesome for the rugby. Cool that your wife love it!!
Cheers, Den.
@@KhonKaenDen - aye; i spoilt her right from the beginning, by introducing her to Guinness - 26 years ago - I've been paying the price ever since.😁
Thanks for the link - impossible to cover everything in that shop.👍
Good morning Den
Hope you are well I have been meaning to response to your welcoming message to me to which I found you to be an person I can see in your videos.
It's Peterjames Man City fan from jomtien, I been here for 2 yrs, Thai lady still learns Thai and lost a lot of weight ring any bells ?.
Anyway before I start I notice a man city cafe opened up in Pattaya called the "Blue Moon" may pay them a visit with the prem returning (thank Buddha) and Brighton on the horizon.
I just been watching and liking all your videos and fully enjoy them, your lady looks nice and you have good chemistry. I love "ball of string" video when you reply about how much money do you need to stay Thailand .
I do believe you need to look at yourself and adapt if you want to stay in Thailand long time ...learning Thai is a must, discipline and a clear plan of what you want from your time here, the easy bit is getting here staying here is another story. l listen to you and a few other tubers but I found that you have kept it together were a few other have had to overcome there demons. I will wish you and your good lady well and hope for 3 pts v Brighton, take care keep up the good work Peterjames .
Hey, Blue! Nice to hear from you again, Peter. Yeah, big game Saturday... no football ruins the weekend for me haha.
If it is the same Blue Moon Bar in Pattaya, I went there a few times around 12-15 years ago. I am getting old. Not sure if it is the same one though.
Yeah, my wife, Beau, is a lecturer at the local university which is why she isn't in that many videos (just weekend ones really). But we get on very well and she doesn't drink either... we love watching movies together and eating etc. A lot of ladies in Isan do drink and some people I know struggle with their partners because of this. Nothing wrong with drinking, but some turn it into a permanent party sort of thing and it gets a bit much.
The budget/ball of string one seems popular. I will do updates every few months or so as things are definitely getting more expensive. I agree that you need to adapt, otherwise your money will soon disappear. On a day-to-day basis, I literally can spend 0-100 baht on little things from 7-11 or wherever. I always have bread, milk and eggs in the house so can literally spend nothing. However, it would be a boring life if done every day. That's why I tend to save money during the week and splash out a little at the weekends... keeps me sane.
I agree that learning Thai is a great move forward and that watching and listening to others on RUclips in a similar situation can really help... I have been depressed in Thailand and it isn't good. I will be making a vid on it soon and how to overcome it. On a similar note, it is easy to turn to drink... been there too. As you say, it's about adapting and overcoming your demons. Cheers, Peter.... and come on you Blues!!! Three points for sure! Den.
just come back from udon a couple of days back bored daft there is not much think khon kaen alot better, alot more things to see
we went to them red lilly lakes, no lillies all gone and we drove over 30 kms to get there
best thing i either road south to khon kaen or north to nong khai which was great
Hi, Mick. Yeah, just watched your vid in Nong Khai... love that place. To be honest, I love Udon too. Different places with different paces, but good in different ways. I could live there but prefer KK.
As for the red lotus flowers, I think they are seasonal (like November to March something like that). Not totally sure though but just remember from my fishing days here. Tanks for sharing, Den.
Wiked! thx.
Thanks again, Den.
Ladybird pies she’s based in phuket. Her little factory doing good.
Cool. I didn't know that. Very tasty pies! Thanks for sharing, Shaun.
@@KhonKaenDen Australian lady with about four shopfronts
Those cheese prices are eye watering. I know it'll br the costs to import them but it would be enough to put me off cheese or even settle for a darylea triangle
Haha... yep, I know exactly what you mean. Not cheap by any means. But, if yu want your little luxuries over here, you've got to pay for it! I usually buy one block of cheese and make it last all month using it sparingly and only at weekends. Thanks for sharing. Den.
Still waiting for you guys to come back 😅
Haha... Hi, Ben. We will be back one day I promise haha. Cheers, Den.
@@KhonKaenDen no rush, sabai sabai 😂
I live in Udon Thani province and I find it very flat and not a lot to see.
Hey, John. Fair enough. Maybe I have lived in Khon Kaen too long but really like to visit Udon whenever I can. Similar to KK but has a few different things and slightly different vibe. Understand the flatness though... I love the mountains, especially in Chaing Mai and will be returning there one day soon. Cheers, Den.
