  • Charles Malki, Biologist & Plant Expert for ivorganics.com/ shows and explains how to prune your roses for maximum vigor and maximum blooms, year round! These tips can be applied to many other plant species as well! The general ‘rose rule’ is to maintain an above-ground structure that is 5% to 50% smaller than the base or root structure. Pruning new growth (between Spring to Fall) by up to 70%, simultaneously with dead-heading, will result in continuous growth and blooms all season long. Also, don’t forget to use IV Organic All Purpose Fertilizers that offer your roses (and all other plants) ALL six (6) plant Macronutrients for optimal growth, color, health, flowers and fruit (if fruit is the goal). Enjoy this brief gardening lesson on pruning roses!

Reminder, DO NOT major prune your plants yet! It's best to wait until after the last chance of frost has passed your grow zone. The following lesson I taught a few weeks ago explains the Top 3 pruning methods (and timing): Why NOT To (MAJOR) Prune In The FALL | Several General Pruning Tips Explained: ruclips.net/video/FVCnfvdQ0Y0/видео.html

What time of year do I prune my knock out roses?

For major pruning (growth over 1-2 years), wait until the last chance of frost has passed your growing zone. For example, here in my Los Angeles grow-zone, the last chance of frost is late January- so pruning in late January to early February is the ideal time. By pruning strategically, the plant will best rebound & heal compared to being pruned too soon. I hope this helps!
      Happy Gardening,
      Charles 🌱👍
