Ten Commandments MUST be displayed in Louisiana schools

  • Starting Jan. 1, 2025, all public elementary, secondary and post-education schools in Louisiana must display the Ten Commandments in every classroom.
Critics vowed to challenge the law in court, calling it unconstitutional and warning that it will lead to religious coercion of students.
“The First Amendment promises that we all get to decide for ourselves what religious beliefs, if any, to hold and practice, without pressure from the government,” the Louisiana chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, the Freedom From Religion Foundation and other groups said in a joint statement Wednesday. “Politicians have no business imposing their preferred religious doctrine on students and families in public schools.”
The law requires a context statement to accompany the commandments, positioning the text as “a prominent part of American public education” from the late 17th century through the late 20th century. Schools have to use donated posters or spend donated money, rather than public funds, to purchase the displays.

That's bringing logic into this. Anyone who advocates for putting religious text like this into public education isn't somebody who is logical in any way.
To them, their faith is more important than reason. It doesn't matter that the 10 commandments are clearly about religion and clearly are biased towards a specific faith. It doesn't matter that presenting this clearly is a violation of the separation of church and state our country was founded upon. It doesn't matter that it encroaches on freedom of religion to have this kind of religious idolatry displayed in schools.

all human action exist in the realm of nature, the fact that we have illustrated and organized a morality at all is beyond mind boggling...
but you folks have never been anywhere and seen how the baseline is. you know what we do in this country, and think it's all for granted... you've never not had laws, so of course you think you were born understanding them.
I'm not hating, I'm just saying, it's not in you're nature to do what we call the "right thing".

But it is? Like sure it’s also in our “nature” to do shitty things too, but empathy is a natural byproduct of evolution, not just a social construct. Kindness exists because it’s evolutionarily advantageous, not because we coincidentally came up with it in 3500 BC. The “baseline” is wayyy higher than you’re making it out to be.
Like as an example: murder is bad not just because we don’t want people to do it to us, but it worsens the structure of community, and can cost valuable allies or access to skills and experience. Even if you can get away with it there’s a material cost that reverberates throughout a community.
Heck, even social animals we consider less intelligent like dogs have a sense of fairness for stuff like distribution of food, and rats will help other rats out of a trap without prompting.
And all this is besides the point: OP wasn’t saying that there should be no rules, only that the necessity of a threat of eternal punishment implies that you wouldn’t do good things when not forced to, which does not bode well of one’s character.

It kind of gets at the issues the Apostle Paul was pointing at in the book of Colossians, that there was a natural tendency of the ideas of the Pharisees to pass into the church, where the idea was created to not touch or taste anything, but those rules don’t fulfill the task of stopping sensual indulgence.
The funny thing about following the law of Moses, where Moses says to teach his law to your children, and to never add to it nor subtract from it, is that you have to go well past the PG descriptions of things and get hit with extremely uncomfortable topics, like Abraham having sex with a concubine and having sex with Hagar (servant of Sarah the wife of Abraham), and God cursing with diseases the house of a ruler who tried taking Sarah away from Abraham, and God telling that ruler that God will kill every last member of that ruler’s country if that ruler has sex with Sarah, and so that ruler returns Sarah to Abraham and gives Abraham extra slaves.
Other complicated passages are Genesis 24 (establishes sex and marriage as equivalent, and that Rebecca didn’t swear an oath to Isaac, and Isaac didn’t swear an oath to Rebecca), Genesis 38 (where Judah establishes that the penalty for prostitutes is getting burned in a fire), Exodus 32 (where God threatens to kill every Israelite over their worship of an idol), Leviticus 18 (all the death penalties regarding prohibited marriages), and Deuteronomy 22 (where a man must marry a girl if he raped her when she is a virgin, and that a husband can order his wife to be stoned to death if she had sex with someone other than him before marriage).
It’s the kind of law that many school counselors would hate people who teach those laws.

These 10 commandments should be common sense they're enforcing this because society has lost all understanding of what's right from wrong so we must go back to times of stability instead of radical thinking and extremists ideologies

Empires and nations all fall because they lose the original value of what started them the same is applied here what started the USA freedom of religion which was meaning freedom to worship God (Christianity) the is was intended for those who left britian because they were limiting what books and verses that could be teached.

The spirit of the law is only as good as the spirit of a Nation, the embodiment of ideals. @togeluga333 I know that lying in its entirety isn't banned by the 10 Commandments, but you're ignoring 4 of them and skirting the line on number 9.
“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
      1. "You shall have no other gods before me.
      2. “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.
      3. "You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
      4. "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy."
I think these may be controversial to people of other faiths. It's also flagrantly unconstitutional for the government to make laws establishing a religion in a state-sponsored setting. The 1st amendment is supposed to mean something, and if it doesn't then a few years from now that precedent may be turned around and used on you.

Teachers and students should be allowed to show some personal display of their religious beliefs within a personal area ie on our desks. NOT on a instructional area. Freedom for me should be freedom for you. The only way I can have and keep my freedom of religion is to also support yours- whether you are Muslim, Jew, Buddhist, atheist, or anything else.
