- Fiat 500 Easily Change Rear Brake Shoes, No Need to Stupidly Remove Hub
I recently bought my daughter her first car. I’ve done oil and filter, air filter, cambelt, front brakes. For the rear brakes, seen one video where it was recommended to remove the hub for better access, there is no need to do that!
Take all safety precautions
This video is to be used as a guide
You must be competent mechanic and have the right tools
Lovely job! Thanks!
Really helped me out, thank you. One thing to mention is to go for a drive and pump the brakes a few times, i spent ages wondering why when I put the handbrake on it didnt work lol
Really excellent video mate, many thanks. Unfortunately got sent the wrong shoes that don't fit properly so have reordered and will await their arrival. Many thanks for your excellent work sir!
I’ve done it both ways left the hub on and taken it off I personally think hub off is just easier to see everything and less chance of damaging the boots on the wheel cylinder but either way will work at the end of the day
Great video 👍
Great video thank you
Remove interior trim ( prob with oily hands!) instead of one 32mm nut🙄
Not a good idea to hold car up just on hydraulic Jack either😮
It is not stupid to remove the hub . Then you can remove and replace the shoes and springs as a hole unit . No struggle at all with the springs .Uoe seems you have a small problems. The hub just take two minutes to remove.
And then you need to torque the hub nut to 200Nm. Each to their own, I’ve never had to remove a hub to change shoes, it is in my option stupid to do that. 😊
Good luck if the adjuster comes apart.
lazy plain lazy .Remove the hub and clean the tone ring and inspect then re-grease and put back on.
Thanks for your comment. Never had to clean any tone rings before in 35 years of driving and maintaining cars. My philosophy is, if it isn’t broken don’t touch it 😂
By pulling the shoes and adjuster apart with the hub on you run the risk of damaging the magnetic tone ring
There is very little clearance between the adjuster, wheel cylinder and tone ring with the hub installed.
Great video 👍
