This is a really good point and I'm glad you raised it. One of the tricky things about sizing bikes by "recommended heights" is that leg/torso length can vary a lot. Regardless, I still need a step ladder to try to ride one of these :)

Top tube length is actually a better way to determine frame size…saddle height is easily fine tuned, but reach to handlebars is more difficult to change and just as crucial to a good fit as saddle height. I’m 6’5”, with a relatively long torso, and I prefer to have my upper body stretched out, so I need to ride 63cm frames to give me a long enough top tube. Only with a 13cm stem and a 60cm top tube (fairly standard on 63cm frames) do I get the position I want. Someone with long legs and shorter torso may want a smaller frame for less reach, but may have to have their seatpost jacked way up to get proper leg extension.
@@stockton350 Well…if the Peugeot was in good shape, I’d definitely take that: those frames are highly desirable with that nice lug work, but this one is pretty trashed. The Trek is a nice bike with decent components and frame, but nothing special. Having gotten my start in cycling as a teen in the ‘80’s, and my first “good” bike being a Fuji, I always have a soft spot in my heart for Fujis and this one is in great shape and a steal at that price…so that would be my choice.
12:30. Re: downtube shifters on 63cm bikes…I’m 6’5” and have a stable of “big” bikes, including several with downtube shifters. Believe it or not, tall people do NOT have the same length arms as “normal” people (ours tend to be longer 😉) so reaching down for those shifters on our big frames doesn’t present any more of a problem to us than it would to a 5’ 10” person riding a 56cm frame!
I have had a basket case PX10 on marketplace for $50 and have not had too much interest. They do not get the interest relative to the race pedigree. There is a new video up by a guy doing restorations out of South Africa (name escapes me). I ride 62 cm (25”) frames and they are not that easy to find relatively, at least what I find interesting.

Even at 6’4” I have shorter legs so I typically ride a 58-60cm frame. I can’t imagine riding a 63.
Yeah I’d have to put the seat below the top tube 😅😂😂
