It's so great to see these making a return. Your videos really helped me as a new curler starting out 6 years ago. Cut to now and I'm still learning new things from you!
    Thanks Jamie!

Thanks for all of these great tips. I've been curling for a while now and have hit a bit of a plateau - when I feel I should be advancing still. Now I have some new pointers (and from a female - I have had a few lessons where I have had a man-splaining that didn't work!!)
    Thank you!

What helped me stay balanced was keeping the sliding foot flat on the ice in the pull back.

Good point! Yes, that would definitely help.

Thanks for the drill, I'm aching to give it a go (even though our ice goes out in about 3-weeks now).

Hi Jamie, good to see you back. Would you probably like to make a video about dominant eye and what to do when eye-hand mismatch?

I do the 2 rock drill with our juniors, but you added a couple of things that I think will really increase the effectiveness of the exercise! Thanks!

Great video, Jamie. My struggle with takeout weight is different, but this was quite helpful. I'm a first-year curler who has played soccer my whole life, so I've got plenty of leg strength to generate booming peel weight (jokingly called "parking lot" weight in my club XD), but I can't really scale it back for more controlled take-outs. As soon as I'm asked for more than hack weight, it's a rocket, with nothing in between.
So, I really appreciate these tips for how to generate power WITHOUT a big leg kick, so I can try to keep the same controlled kick as a hack-weighter, and add from there using these techniques. Similar in a way to how a golfer can use the exact same swing with different clubs, to get the desired effect.

I think what would help you control those in between weights is controlling your speed from the park position to when your body comes forward and over the hack. Thats where the momentum is established. So control that speed and you will have control over more weights.

thanks so much for doing a vid on this topic...I just changed my delivery a bit, and all of a sudden I can't throw weight and maintain accuracy - turns out it's because I'm not generating weight properly. lol now something new to work on...

Thanks for the tips. I find that I have problems with balance when I push out too fast so I have to support myself with my broom over my shoulder instead of behind my back for big weight. I'd really like to get all my throws the same for consistency and better aim. I'll give your suggestions a try and see how that works out.

Yes, balance is often a limiting factor. But a little practice with some balance slides and you will get there!

Love the video! I would love to see if you would have any tips on how to find and remember draw weight. I have started throwing fourth stones for my team and I have been light/heavy on more pressure draws than I'd like to admit 😅

How hard do your team, throw peels on average hog to hog?

As much as pulling the foot back works, unless the hips come back too you’re not actually adding any extra mass (your body) to the momentum equation. I have a ton of curlers at my club who slide their foot WAAAAAAAY back who still cannot generate take out weight as a result.

    • @CurlUpWithJamie
      @CurlUpWithJamie  7 месяцев назад

Yes, exactly. Thats why i mention weight transfer. You need to feel your body weight transferring onto your slider foot. Good point.
