Place a stone slab over the lava so that it doesn't burn the items. And stand on a block kinda close to the lava so you will pick it up before the lava burns it. Love you Crainer!! :)

21:20 Put a block above the lava source so the only way things can burn is if it goes into the side. Helps with multidrops like lapis XD
Edit: If you put a block with a long break time (like obsidian) behind where the ores generate you can put something on your mouse and mine while afk. They do have security questions to prevent afk grinding but if you sit there and use your phone or just check on it once and a while you'll still get a good profit :)

Use a chunk hopper as it instantly collects the drops and the easiest way to get them is to chop trees also you get other cool stuff like spawner from chopping down trees

The hopper thing is actually very effective but since u break the blocks it jumps on the lava the best option will be putting a slab (stone) on top of the lava for the item drop not to burn
