Great step by step tutorial, thank you so much! Bought a new battery for my daughter's MacBook thinking it would be as easy as my old one (2009 model), then realized I was in way over my head. Your video bailed me out, looks like a successful install

Hi, I'm here to say if you're not a technician and planned to replace your A1989 battery by yourself all I want to say as a reminder is be very careful when taking off the ribbon battery cable/that connector cable to connect the battery into the logic board like how it shown in this video at 3:20, if that connector pin dirty it's not gonna work, if that connector bent it's not gonna work, I tried it myself and it happening the battery cannot be detected, I tried to fix it by cleaning the pin on the connector, plug it in again and then it's work. Also, good video, for real this video saved me lots of bucks, thank you
Yup, don't damage it lol
Massive help! Thank you!!!!!

Great video. My MacBook Pro battery replacement was much more difficult than my previous MacBook Air. My trackpad cable was brittle and it broke. You may want to buy one of those with your replacement battery. I also stripped screws when removing the trackpad. I had to use a dremel and small cutting pad to put a slit in the screwhead and back it out. The screws are somewhat reusable but I found new screws.
Sounds like you used a cheap screwdriver and I don't know how you broke the trackpad cable. You have to peel it up the way I show. Glad you were able to figure it out though.
Very good video~ change battery successfully

Thanks for the detailed and straightforward tutorial. If I'd followed the poorly-translated instructions that came with my battery, I'd've broken broken the backplate and both gates for the ribbon wire

You are rad man! I hope your clavicle is better
Every so often there will be a slight discomfort, but other than that, all good!
Excellent ... well done ...
Thanks!
Thought to replace by myself, but this battery adhesive is tricky one. Experience with Dell etc but not with Apple. Adhesive is only tricky part, but still seems convenient to ask a person who has done it many times before. Proper tools are important here.
Well depends on final price for battery replacement. If i decide to go for new M3 then it’s maybe wiser to skip replacement and do the device repurchase (Trade In) and invest it into new one.
Great video and overview about the steps and what to keep in mind! Be careful with cables
Yup, definitely
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the support!
Hello mate, I have been following your video, really impressive. Do you have any video to replace system/logic board for MacBook Pro 2018 A1989? thanks in advance. By the way, I successfully replace the LCD screen for a macbook following your step by step instruction, really helped a lot.
This is an old one, but hopefully it will help. ruclips.net/video/88zlnLTp2Eg/видео.html
can you send a link where you got the battery from? I need to replace my 13 inch retina touch bar a1989. thnks!
Make sure the year model matches. amzn.to/37vAqfm
Hi, after I change my battery macbook says “battery is not charging” when plugged in. What can be the problem do you have any idea 🙏🏻
Usually the metal tab or ribbon cable is not connected properly
Great how to!

I have a few questions. My same MacBook will say x battery and my battery data cable scuffed but no major tears. I don’t know how far to push it but it can be pulled out of the socket even when latched. Do you know if this is a data cable problem? It originally started up but wouldn’t fully load past the login screen and would die when unplugged. And now it bootloops. I did a lot of solutions that didn’t work. However now my Mac bootloops on a screen without an Apple logo just blank screen but backlight is on and turns off for like 5-10 seconds then turns on for like 2-5 seconds and repeats. Occasionally I get an infinite Apple logo just infinitely boots
Hmmm very strange. The connector should just slightly have pins visible.
0:40 6 screws in order
1:10 lift cover up
2:10 slide cover down and open
3:05 plastic cover
3:20 undo the latch and remove the cable
4:20 remove screws holding the contacts of the battery and disconnect batery
4:55 drain power from board
5:20 disconnect the trackpad
6:10 remove adhesive trackpad strip
6:40 remove 10 trackpad screws
8:03 remove the trackpad
9:00 scraping the battery
14:10 remove the battery
and now some steps worth mentioning during the new battery installing:
15:40 removing plastic helper
Mhmm

@@joseflat haha I see
I broke the little tiny latch that connects to the cable. Is that going to present a problem and if so, any suggestions on how to fix it? Thanks
Have to put it back in.
Did you use a third party battery? Will using other company battery harm the computer?
Used 3rd party battery. It shouldn't damage the computer, but I can't guarantee that it won't happen to you. Most the time it's not the battery that damages the computer, but incorrect installation.
did u manage to get the battery charging what was the cause of this problem ? and what was the fix ?????
Did you watch the video?
Please don't take this as a negative comment. It is not. This is a remarkable video, and the steps are clearly shown.
What is also clear is that I now have the knowledge to replace my MacBook battery, but I lack
a) Proper tools
b) Proper skill
c) Patience
This video is so well done, it convinced me to not try this myself. I need to decide whether to pay to have it serviced, or continue to keep it attached to a power cable as a backup to my iPad Air.
Why would I take that as a negative comment? Haha Yeah, biggest thing is having good tools to do the job. Some people were able to do it using floss or fishing line. That might make it more possible for you to do it.
Hey I’m having problems. Seems I didn’t connect mine right and my Mac only turns on when Its charging. I’m guessing it’s the battery connection but it’s reading the battery well
Make sure the metal tab is lined up properly with the contact points of the battery and check the little ribbon cable.
@@ItsBinhRepaired it’s hard to tell what the soulution was but I redid like 4 times and the last time I found a hair and waited a little longer to reboot. I also plugged and unplug the charger and seems to have late reaction. But turned on without the charger. Thank you. Your what makes social media great.

I want to buy something that looks like a knife that I use to take out the battery. Where can I buy it?
I'm not sure how thin this is, but you could always file/sand it thinner. amzn.to/3x3xOSs
Have you try resetting smc?
I have same problem, battery not detected after replacement and it resolved by resetting smc, but before it let it fully charged
Didn't fix it
@@ItsBinhRepaired What was the solution to the battery not charging?
Don't remember. So long ago.
Great video, thanks. Around 4:07 you mention the battery cable and the latch on the left hand side. I broke the latch. I think I will need the whole thing that contains the receptacle and the latch. What is that part called on which the latch is installed ?
The part connected to the battery?
Yes, saw later in the video, it is part of the battery. Will it come with a new battery ?
I hate how RUclips doesn't notify me of replies. Were you able to figure it out? Usually it doesn't come with it.
Is there a particular brand for the battery that you recommend?
This amzn.to/3SVYsrf

The top case didn't come with the battery?

Can we run the macbook-pro without battery
Usually not
My Macbook Pro detects my battery, but it won't charge or use battery power as a power source. When I unplug my MacBook, it completely goes dead... I just ordered the flex cable for the battery, so hopefully, it fixes the problem. Anyone has any information that could be useful, please reply.
Double check the metal tab. It's rare for those to break
@@ItsBinhRepaired I checked the battery connection, and I even wiped the contacts. I searched online, and even in the video, you said the battery doesn't charge without the ribbon cable to the battery daughterboard. My MacBook does detect the battery, but it doesn't charge it or use the battery power.
Hmmm hopefully it works
@@johnhuynh8240 Mine is doing this exactly. What was fix for your issue John?
What is the tool he is using to free the battery it look A cake frosting spatula
Why are you asking viewers and not me? Lol... I'll wait for them to answer. XD
This is the tool amzn.to/3ZfF5MR
Try SMC Reset and NVRAM Reset
?
make sure you have the right tools because my macbook actually lit on fire 🙃
great video though
Yup, the right tools are important.
Well best not to use a metal tool to pry up the batteries ... I punctured one of the batteries and it went up in smoke and red hot flames !!! best to use a plastic tool. Fortunately the Macbook survived.
Try puncturing the battery with plastic and let me know how it goes. Lol
Why don/t Apple just design the batteries that you can just screw on...?
Because then people would replace them by themselves. They can't have that. Lol
Frustrating isnt it?
I was a tech for 30 years and everything gets smaller and more fiddly whilst my eyes got too.blurty and my hands got shaky to do it anymore.
But the worse is when you spend hours changing something only for it still not to work afterwards .
Yeah....
The worst part is things are getting more and more integrated.
@@ItsBinhRepaired it's almost like they dont want us.to.fix anything but go out and buy new instead lol!
@@FlyingFun. it's exactly that lol
I think I speak for everyone when I say fuck those T3 screws. I cannot get them out with stripping them. No matter how I do it…
Try t4 and also might need a better screwdriver sadly. This works really well amzn.to/32KAedj you might need a screw extractor to remove the stripped ones though. :( This works amzn.to/31bgkru make sure no metal shavings are in the laptop.
The screws are bad and strip pretty easily if it's slightly off in size. :(
The type of technicians you should avoid when you wanna safe some bucks in repair 😄
The type that shows you exactly what they did and explain why? Have fun bringing it to a tech that doesn't tell you what they do and mess your computer up.
Uhhh no. It's Binh did a public service here... He taught you how to replace the battery yourself and did it professionally. What else were you expecting?
He was expecting me to ship him a new laptop... lol
@@ItsBinhRepaired I run a PC repair shop as well. We get one of those people once a year as well lol
Or maybe he meant avoid bringing your computer to me because you can fix it yourself with my video. Lol
Apple needs to stay out of laptop business
Lol they might stop making them. They keep having issues.
